I have never had such an awful experience with an electronic product. I thought setting this up would be a snap but it turned into a 3-hour fiasco. It started with the instructions which said download the Netgear app and follow the instructions. Did all that but could not get a connection or set up my passwords. I reset the modem figuring I would start from the beginning but then I couldn’t see it in my list of networks. Frustrated I called Netgear customer service and after 20 minutes they said I should have called my ISP to get the modem registered. We spent another 40 minutes getting all this straightened out. I said why did the instructions say that prior to downloading the app? They apologized.
It took my ISP to work through a couple of issues but I finally got the modem registered. I called Netgear back and got a different representative and went through all the issues and we spent more time to get everything established. I still had the issue of not being allowed to change my passwords AND I was not getting the speed I was paying for. I had my ISP’s modem and was getting close to 500M download but putting the Netgear modem on I was lucky if I was getting half that on Wi-Fi. Using and ethernet cable I was getting about 100-150M download. Because of this issue I was sent to Tech Support.
They apologized for the issues and asked me what kind of ethernet cable I was using, Cat 5 or Cat 6. I told him my house is wired with Cat 5. He said that was my issue, I need Cat 6. I asked why I needed Cat 6 since with my ISP modem I was reaching near the 500M download speed. He had no answer.
I thanked him, hung up the phone, boxed up the modem and returned it. I’m leasing the modem now. I had a Netgear before that failed after 2.5 years. Costing it out it will cost me just about the same and the ISP will take care of any issue and it fails I get a new one at no charge and there will be no service charge. I’ve got 2 screenshots of speed tests that I’ve just done. Enough with the hassles!
