1. This device has its own internal power supply ( RCA version has a an external brick )
2. This device is bigger and has a metal jacket with USB on the front
The real issue I think is that the internal power supply fries quite easily. Opening up my two failed units the power supply section of the board shows the recitifier doides and capacitor melted down in a nice blackish gunk. Probably the cap, but could be the diodes. In any case, the RCA model will not fail for the same reason, and may be easier to replace just the brick if it does.
Aside from the likely blowout of the supply at some point, you will enjoy a pretty decent product.

*Final Update (2017-09-12)*: They did send me a replacement, I choose the AT-300 option. Now I have two working units which I'll either keep unplugged or plugged into a surge protector with an on/off switch, switched off when not in use. Just plug in & turn on; it saves all scanned channels and settings. The AT-300 is the answer here because the power source is not inside, but outside on the converter plug (outputs 5 volts at 1500 mA), so if that goes bad, the whole unit won't be junk, just replace that part. This model also does have the onscreen TV display of the actual channel (say 6-1); note that on the box, it displays the channel number using a zero in lieu of a dash, thus 0601 (6-1) or 1201 (12-1) but becomes the clock time display when the box is off. Also has a built in antenna amplifier, and both a signal strength and signal quality meter for when fine tuning in the antenna direction! The tuner is a good tuner that really pulls in the stations, although that's more dependent on the antenna and your location/direction to the TV broadcast transmission towers. Supports connecting up to a 2 TB USB hard drive (Limit) or a USB thumb drive for recording stuff and playing back, including pictures, other movie formats, and music (mp3 & acc) that's on your drive.
Update: What the instructions don't tell you:
1. The box only has a USB 2.0. It does not support USB 3.0
2. Press the "info" button once on your remote, and it displays the channel/station info, but you have to press The info button a second time to display the station strength meter.
3. Recorded output is in the form of a .mts file. After approximately 4.29 GB of recording, the ViewTV cuts a new output file under the same name, but with an extension of .mts1, and then .mts2. If needed.
4. On the Mac, the QuickTime player will play a .mts file, albeit occasionally it will hang up. Even though it may hang up on the Mac, it is still usable on the ViewTV. My QuickTime player can't handle a .mts2 file, but again, for large, multi-file videos, I use the ViewTV. Incidentally, you can rename your files on your computer and then download to your USB thumb drive.
5. Finally, I use high speed flash memory cards in a USB 2.0 flash reader. If you use a USB 2.0 Thumb Drive, make sure it is at least 40 Mbps speed in order to record in high definition. I have absolutely no issues at 40 Mbps.
11/03/17 update: it is still worker great for recording OTA content. I’m using SanDisk USB 3.0, 32 and 64 MB thumb drives purchased inexpensively at Amazon. Note: plug the thumb drive into a Samsung TV USB port, and the recorded video contents can be displayed directly and easily on the TV, obviating the need for the ViewTV box for playback.
Top reviews from other countries

I use a USB powered WD 500 GB hard drive for recording without any problems. Once you get a 20 or more of recordings it takes up to a minute to load them from the external HD. Also deleting shows takes 30 seconds or so each. Recording rate is 6GB per hour so over 100 hrs per 500 GB drive. You can also put the drive on you PC and play back full res. HD. The files are chopped up into 5 minute blocks (this is hidden from you on the unit itself) but you can just queue them with VLC Viewer.
Odd my manual was in spanish but I figured out how to use it by finding an online video.

I am returning this unit and will try the HomeWorx HW-150PVR. Fingers Crossed!!!
