How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsWorks perfectly with a Chromebook
Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2019
Even though my new Acer Chromebook has a Touchpad as well as a Touchscreen and Stylus, I still prefer the mouse interface. This AmazonBasics Wireless Mouse was so inexpensive that I decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did. It's excellent.

It is shaped much like Logitech's MX series mice -- the same large, ergonomically-sculpted shape which I find very comfortable (though not especially portable). I just plugged the receiver into the Chromebook and it worked!

Battery life seems good. I've been using it for more than two weeks with 2 rechargeable AA's and I'm still getting 2 out of 3 LEDs on the battery indicator. It tracks predictably and remains connected. Buttons and scroll-wheel operate with the same "feel" as my Logitech mice.

It is "Plug-and-Play" and does not come with any software. Instead, with whichever OS you're using, go your System Settings and make your adjustments for things like pointer speed there.

I'm also using two different AmazonBasics Surge protectors and a USB Hub. I've found them all, as well as this Wireless Mouse, to be well-made, reliable and great value.

1.0 out of 5 stars Save your beans, not worth it.
Reviewed in the United States on March 22, 2019

I originally bought this for work because I was provided a very small, crappy wireless mouse that made my hand hurt after extended periods of time. I wanted something a bit more ergonomic and portable and this product definitely gave me that.

Unfortunately, this mouse has such a crappy laser that I still experienced hand/wrist strain. The mouse is very difficult to control when moving at lower speeds that require precision (i.e. highlighting text or selecting a checkbox on a screen). The cursor would frequently jump past the object I was attempting to select on the screen. This would cause me to have to hold a particular grip on the mouse longer than intended to attempt to perform the task.

PROS:
- Cheap
- Ergonomic design
- Wireless
- Decent enough with battery life

CONS:
- Really crappy laser, makes precision very, very bad.
- Poor quality laser lead to hand/wrist strain, thereby negating the ergonomic design.
- This is a nitpick, but the cover on the bottom of the mouse to take out the batteries or store the USB receiver was kind of a pain to take off. If you don't have strong finger nails, you might need a pen or something pointy to pry it off.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not great, but not bad for the price
Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2019

Seeing that this was the Amazon equivalent to the Logitec Performance MX full-size mouse (at half the price), I decided to give it a shot. First thing I noticed upon taking it out of the package was that the pad at the front end of the mouse was not as thick as the pad at the back end. Any time I clicked the buttons the mouse would rock on the uneven pads. Easy enough to fix by adding a few layers of scotch tape over the front pad to thicken it up, but disappointing nonetheless.

Once that was fixed, I started using it. It's definitely ergonomic and comfortable to hold. It's also pretty smooth on larger motions, though it struggles a bit with small movements. I doubt it would be enough to bother the average user, but as someone who uses this mouse a lot for computer drafting (which requires small, precise movements) it can make things more difficult than they need to be. At least the extra buttons are well placed. If you're not the type to use them, you usually won't accidentally hit them. If you are the type to use them, they're close enough that you won't need to contort your hand to reach, and they feel pretty solid.

I've also noticed that this mouse burns through batteries like nobody's business. It's now on its 3rd set of batteries in 5 months. At 2 batteries a pop, that's pretty bad. For reference, I treat this mouse pretty similar to the way I treat my Logitech M510 mouse and the M510 usually goes a year-plus without needing new batteries.

Overall, the bells and whistles are well-designed but some of the basic functionality feels like it's been overlooked. It's a good deal for the price, but if you need a performance mouse this isn't quite it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Watch out for the delay of response
Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2018

The mouse looks great, and feel great with your hands.

But two issues make me decide to return it:

- Mouse delays: once in a while, the mouse will have half-second delays in response. It is a little unpredictable, after shaking the mouse to make sure it response, it will be back to normal...

- Oversensitive: again, once in a while, it would jump all over the place, making you look for the cursor all over the screen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great mouse for the office
Reviewed in the United States on April 2, 2019

I recently relocated within my building at work and was running my mouse on a different type of surface that wouldn't allow it to pick up movement well.
I decided to go ahead and try out this mouse and it worked flawlessly right out of the box. It fixed the issue I was having with my other mouse right away.
I don't do any gaming with it as I have a separate mouse at home for that purpose so I can't speak to how well it would function there.
The mouse is very comfortable to hold and it was plug and play so there was no driver to search for.
I can't really speak to battery life as I'm running lithium batteries so I probably won't have to worry about it for quite some time.

3.0 out of 5 stars I miss my Logitech Performance MX
Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2022
Style: MouseVerified Purchase
For starters, supposedly, Amazon bought Logitech's design for their top of the line Performance MX which has been discontinued, so now Amazon has the rights, and they've produced this cheaper version of it. Trust me, it's NOT the same. It's smaller, which makes a big difference when you go to pick it up because it slips out of your hand. And just the feel of it overall does not compare with the Performance MX. So either Amazon changed the design after they bought it, or Logitech didn't sell them the actual design of their top rated mouse. The weight is lighter also, which is a negative. The Performance MX was the perfect weight. As for the instructions, I don't know what the writer was on, but oh my goodness. The booklet tells you to remove the battery cover (without any info on how to do that), insert the batteries, and then put the cover back on. The very next step is to remove the battery cover. Unbelievable but true. Remove the battery cover and take out the nano receiver that is tucked inside the battery compartment. Okay. So I looked and looked, but the place where the nano receiver was supposed to reside was empty. So, as I started to pack it back up and send it back, lo and behold, there was a little cardboard box, with the perfect size shape for the nano receiver. And there it was. Fitting perfectly in it's little hiding spot. I say, hiding spot, because the box looked just like packaging material and it could have been easily missed and thrown away. Amazon must be hard up for good technical writers because it's not like them to make things 10 times as hard as they need to be. Just a warning. Don't follow the instructions. You're better off thinking it through on your own. Other than all that, the mouse works, but don't expect it to feel like your Logitech Performance MX.
ans it doesn't fit your hand as well, so when you pick it up, it slips out of your hand.

Well it's been almost two years and this mouse has been great. I ordered a new one today since the wheel on my old one stopped working. I don't think it was the mouse's problem I think my cat knockin it to the ground might have killed it. All I have to say it's a good mouse..

Update 7/28/21
Ok I play a lot of online games that require constant mouse use and the batteries last forever..
it's been 6 months and has the original Amazon batteries in it, HEAVY USE on them too.

I read some of the bad reviews, I pretty much have not had any of these issues, and I've own two..
They must have just gotten a bad batch...but it's Amazon just return it =P

Update 11/11/2021
Ok just a little update... this thing sips battery power, original batteries and still going strong 2/3 bars on the meter. this is with heavy use, not sure how they do it!

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst!
Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2021
Style: MouseVerified Purchase
In the 30+ years I've been using computers this is the worst mouse I ever endured.
The ergonomics are poor. I had to stretch my fingers to reach the buttons, the thumb button is too high and too far to the rear. The precision was abysmal. I do AutoCAD work and it was as if the snap was set at 4" when it was not even on. After a couple hours of CADDING my wrist to my shoulder ached trying to make this thing do what it just can't do. I sent it back for a refund and bought the reliable Logitech M510, which only lasts a year or 2 but at least it performs properly during the period. What this country needs is a good reliable mouse manufacturer that sources their materials and assembles them in country.
