We were looking for some bare bone coops that we could modify to suit our needs. We wanted egg boxes low enough the kids could reach them, the handled nesting door, the pull out cleaning tray as well as 4 nesting boxes. Our best option we discovered was to buy 2 and put them together. These arrived early and in perfect condition. The instructions were simple and clear. It was pretty fast to put together - but we had 2 so it took us a bit longer. We painted the coop a direct copy of someone elses' review we love theirs so much. Then we spent about $100 in other supplies to modify it - better/lockable latches, outdoor paint, a frame, and more wood/wire to make a center unit to bring them together. We repurposed the hardware wire we didn't use in the sides to cover the sliding doors and also added vent holes on the other side and covered those as well. We forgot to get two simple pulls to make the cleaning tray even more easily accessed but other than that we're done and very pleased. All in all we have a customized, HUGE run, 2 coops, and 4 nesting boxes for less than $500 with everything we were looking for! Don't let the basic look of this coop fool you - use your imagination and get going!

like a chain with a lock on the nesting box ...

For the price, you really can't beat it! I added some extra security features, like a chain with a lock on the nesting box that easily allows me to clip the box open while collecting the eggs (we don't have that piece of wood that props it up in the photo... not sure if that is just one of the roosting bars?). Anywho... we also added chicken wire all along the bottom of the run. We added a window flower box and weather proof white paint as well.

Although I've seen many negative reviews on this product I found the coop to be of excellent quality. The trick is to make sure the coop is treated with a good outdoor paint or stain. I also raised mine off the ground 4" by adding a base to it and added some roofing shingles.

Good coop--don't judge on the negative reviews

I was very hesitant to order this coop because of some of the reviews I read. So far I have been very pleased. It came in 2 boxes, but the boxes came on two different days which was the fault of FedEx. I received one box and knew I was supposed to get 2 so I contacted the seller and within the hour they responded with the tracking number for the second box. It arrived the day after the first box. All of the pieces were there, it even had a couple extra screws in each packet in case you lost one. Screws were in separate baggies that were clearly labeled. The pieces were not labeled but was easy to figure out using the directions. It was very easy to assemble and only took about 30 minutes. The wood is very soft and there is not a latch for the nesting box. I purchased a latch for the box and Thompson's water seal to weatherproof it. I also plan on adding 2x4s with rat wire to raise off the ground a little and to keep predators from tunneling under and getting access. The negative reviews I read here were not accurate from my experience. You can judge how big it is by comparing it to my standard one car garage door. I'm 5'3" and you can see how I literally fit in the coop.

super happy with this coop. We are beginners and will have two chickens. My husband and 15 year old son put the coop together in about an hour. My husband will be applying an water seal and made a base from 2x4 and wire cloth as was recommended in other reviews. I know this coop may not last several years, but for the price if we get 2-3 years it will be worth it.

Easy to put together and looks great. Only thing I'm not thrilled with is how soft the wood is...but nothing a sealer can fix. Worth the money.
