I've had mixed luck with purchasing food items online - from a bag of almonds that was badly split open and haphazardly taped back together with shipping tape (God knows how much product was lost in that process, let alone the idea of how many almonds were scooped up off a dirty shipping counter or floor by dirty hands). Often "Sell by" or "Best by" dates are within a few weeks - or days - of expiration, too.
This sack of flour was packaged very nicely - original packaging by Bob's Red Mill completely intact; bag was inside another sealed shipping bag and the entire doubled-sacked product was inside a sturdy shipping box.
Unfortunately the "Best by" date is four months ago. I ordered this online for convenience sake, because I don't think the price was demonstrably less than the product would have been at my local grocery store. I know the flour is perfectly fine to use, and since it is a "gluten free" product, texture or flavor isn't relevant ;-) ... but it rankles me to spend this much on a 4 lbs. sack of flour and have it be this far past expiration date.
