A man returns to the hometown he left as a kid when his brother was one of five children murdered in a case that was never solved. Old memories return to the surface when one mother’s child goes missing after mentioning that she had been watching "Candle Cove," a creepy children’s puppet show he used to watch on public access in the 1980s around the time of his brother's murder.

Do you remember Candle Cove?
Verified purchase
Candle Cove understands horror in a way not often seen today. The problems stems from a misunderstanding of the difference between being horrified, being startled, and being grossed out; most works of horror today can manage the second two with either a jump scare or with gratuitous gore, but that first category is beyond the reach of many. I think what exemplifies this most is how Candle Cove doesn't really have any jump scares in the traditional sense: it lingers on its subjects, allowing you to experience the same dread as the characters.

Now, is it perfect? No, there are some story beats that don't work super great, and the ending is presented in a way I'm not a fan of. Did it make me afraid to walk into rooms with the lights off? Yes.

BETTER than AHS
Verified purchase
I only just now have discovered this SyFy show. First off, no offense, but I am kind of shocked this is from the SyFy channel. It looks like a movie, well funded, high production value. I accidentally stumbled across this with season three, then went back and watched season 1 & 2. Holy... I am enjoying this seasonal anthology series dedicated to creepy pasta SO MUCH! In my opinion, this is leagues above and beyond American Horror Story. Though, if you love AHS, I think you'll like this. I think it's even better, but even if you prefer AHS, I think you'll still like this show also. So, this is the first season. I'll try not to compare, since I watched in reverse order, seasons 3,2, and then this season 1. VERY creepy. I have NOT read any of the creepy pastas that go along with these (except the stairs in the woods ones, involved in season 3), so I can't say the stories are better or not, nor complain that I wished they'd been 'more true' to the original creepy pasta story. As a standalone story concept, I thought Treasure Cove was unique, very unsettling, and I loved it. This is my newest favorite TV show. Well done, SyFy!! If you like horror shows, and you haven't seen this show yet, WATCH IT NOW. And try all three seasons. If you don't like one season, you're bound to like at least one of them, because each season dedicates itself to a brand new creepy pasta story. I loved all 3 seasons currently available, and can't wait for season 4, in one week!! Just in time for Halloween.... !!!!

Channel Zero - a creepy over scary show that is a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
Verified purchase
Just finished season 1 last night. This is a really good show. I have to take a start off only because it was a little hard to follow at certain times. Other than that, I felt the show was written; directed, acted, and executed very well. I guess my only "big" complaint is that the show is not very scary, but it is super creepy. So if you're expecting a good jump scare, then this is not the show for you. If you like movies and TV shows that get under your skin and make you question those bumps or creaking noises when you're alone at night in your house, then this show is definitely for you. To emphasis the creepy over scary comment, this show knows what it is doing. There main "monster" is made of teeth taken from little children. There are monsters that look like they came up from a swamp that rip their faces in half as they reach down your throat. And for that, I give this show a solid 4 out of 5 stars. If possible, I would have given Channel Zero 4.5 out of 5. But Amazon does not allow a half of star rating system.

My son and I both really enjoyed this - the acting and cinematography are fantastic
Verified purchase
Incredibly well done production, based on creepypasta stories. (It's obviously based on "Candle Cove," but also seems to draw inspiration from "1999"). My son and I both really enjoyed this - the acting and cinematography are fantastic, the story very creepy and compelling. I also really enjoy this mini-series format - the complete story arc of this show spanned 6 (45 minute) episodes. It's enough time to get well immersed in the story, without it dragging on and on. I highly recommend this (and it's also fun to listen to the creepypastas to see what inspired this story. Probably after watching, although there aren't a lot of direct spoilers - this show was inspired by the stories, rather than being a direct retelling of either of them).

The best horror series you are not watching
Verified purchase
This is a fantastic horror series. Unlike the far better know (and in my opinion, but less effective) American Horror Story (AHS), Channel Zero is subtle, creepy, and unnerving. It gets under your skin and posses really disturbing questions about reality and human nature. This is serious horror but it is also a lot of fun; just not fun in a deliberately campy, over the top way like AHS. I highly recommend it to both horror fans but also to those who enjoy surrealism and dark drama (think Twin Peaks).

Slow and plodding show
Verified purchase
I had only seen trailers of this show prior to purchasing it and at the time it seemed pretty good.
I found the show slow paced to the point of boring and regret the money I wasted purchasing it.
If you like horror/action movies as I do and have never seen this show my advice is to stream it first before purchasing it thus saving you money if you don't like it like me.

A must watch.

2 episodes in so far and I'm impressed with the level of atmosphere, storytelling, and the fine art of character building. This show is definitely a must watch for horror and suspense fans. With that said, I've got my fingers crossed that the rest of the season will be as stellar as the first 2 episodes.

Underrated and exceptional horror series
Verified purchase
Efficient, smart and scary. The scares per capita in this tightly scripted series rival the best TV horror adaptations and series out there and leaves you with plenty to think about it after its done. The clever cinematography and innovative editing create an atmosphere of dreamy doom, punctuated by nightmare, that never gives in to cliche or easy scares. The script treats its characters with respect-- motivations are understandable, even if reprehensible, and the characters act like appropriately and intelligently, even while reacting to, or trying to understand the incomprehensible. It's a fantastic and frightening effort that deserves attention.
