Honest review here. Taste as made intro root beer soda was excellent. Got better after a few days even. I force carbonate not a yeast recipe. I saw somewhere the suggested ratio as something crazy like 4oz/16 gallons.. that's crazy wrong. I did 4oz bottle in 4 gallons water with 3.5 pounds of white sugar for a name brand level of sweetness. The flavor is bold, Rich and creamy as you might expect from a company that is famous for vanilla. Plenty of Wintergreen and root extracts to round it out. If there is a complaint it's the "relatively" high price but value is subjective and I never complain about paying more for quality products. This one claims to use all natural ingredients and that has high value for me. Will definitely add to my rotation of gnome extract and hoptec ("homemade soda company" who makes 3 flavors). Very happy and hope this helps. If you comment please the me what your drinking and your recipe as I love to learn.

THEY GET AROUND IT BUY LABELING IT "COOK" and put "choice" right next to it hoping you don't notice but it's NOT THE AUTHENTIC VERSION!

I cannot in good faith recommend this at all. I love root beer and was excited to get this. My daughter and I have a soda bar in our yard. We have kegs filled with seltzer and a ton of soda flavor syrups we’ve made using extracts. Root beer was next on our flavor list and after a bit of research, we went with Cook’s. Horrible mistake.

1) This doesn’t taste like root beer at all. You know what it does taste like? The exact kind of fake root beer flavoring you get in root beer barrel candies and in root beer snow balls. This was so disappointing, because like an idiot I ordered a big bottle instead of a smaller bottle to sample.

2) so I used the extract to make syrup, the exact same way I always make stop with zero problems, and within a week or so I noticed little floaters in my drink after pouring the syrup into my seltzer. I looked inside the bottle and these were just huge mold spores floating on the top of the syrup. I legitimately almost threw up. I almost served this to my kid!!

I don’t know what went wrong or if I got a bad batch or what, but Cook’s is not for me.

Doesn't taste anything like root beer – just a strong bitter taste. No amount of sugar will overcome it or reveal a root beer taste.

Maybe I got a bad bottle with spoiled ingredients. The taste was so bad I poured it down the drain, and I will never order it again. I will continue to use my Hires root beer extract.

Great for Homemade Soda

I'm a homebrewer who also kegs home made sodas. I found 1.25oz per gallon of water was the perfect strength making this a great value. I use 2.5lbs of sugar and 1.88g of pure sucralose to sweeten a 5 gallon batch. The wintergreen is strong in this extract, close to being overpowering, but the kids and I still like it enough to buy it again. I may try to use brown sugar instead of white to balance the mint then next time I make it.
