Excellent, realistic version of how Anne Frank lived in the attic / loft.

It was more engaging than the other Diary of Anne Frank shows I've seen and though a sad story, it was very well done. It was very realistic, though the ending was different when it came to the Germans moving the bookcase and breaking down the door.

In all of the other shows, the Germans dragged everyone out kicking, screaming and crying, which wasn't the case in this movie. It was still very sad and the fear was very real.

Also in this particular movie there was a warehouse worker who seemed to remember a doorway going up to the loft and kept wondering about the bookcase. It was a little different and some of the bickering scenes were quite intense but well worth watching, it seemed very realistic to me and I will watch it again.

It is one of the best movies on Anne Frank and it is a long one which I like. It gives you more details. It's a thriller in areas as well especially when the break in occurred at the hiding place. You can almost feel how frightened they well. As I said it was one of the best movies I've seen on Anne Frank but it's based on the screen play written by Albert and Frances Goodwich Hackett. I've read that they added things that didn't happen. For instance Mr. Van Pels (Van Dann) never stole food as you see in the movie or read in the play. If you want to know the real facts read The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank. The Diary of Anne Frank: The Critical Edition is just as good with more details about Anne and the Frank family, as well as the rest of the people in the Secret Annexe. The Hidden Life of Otto Frank is excellent too if you want to know more about Anne Frank.

My students had read the play but seeing the characters come to life gave them a whole new understanding of the living conditions for Jews in hiding. Can’t wait to share it with my next class.

Very Good Movie

This is one of the best The Diary of Anne Frank movies I have ever seen. The acting is awesome and they copy the movie almost verbatim to the book. And that is very rare. I suggest that you watch it and once you start you will not be able to stop. But I always wondered one thing about the Van Dam's, with all the yelling that they did I wonder if that caused alarm that someone was in the Attic?

excellent depiction of a moving story

a beautifully moving performance of the story of anne frank. the actors are all excellent in their parts. standouts for me are anne's mother who clearly shows her confusion at the rose growing in her garden of potatoes. mrs. vandaan impeccably played by shelley winters just naturally presuming her superior value in a time of deprivation and fear. anne herself, introspective but outspoken, a bundle of contradictions. well worth watching and rewatching, enough of the diary to make it a full experience even if not complete. makes clear the daily life and deprivations of hiding from the many hunters looking for the few able to conceal themselves during the horror of the Nazi takeover of most of Europe during wwII.

This tragic true story comes to life in this 3 hour film, I've never seen this version before and it is really carefully made to make us feel like we are also hiding in this small cramped attic with these poor people being hunted down like animals by the nazis. every detail brings us a bit closer to Anne and who she was as a young girl, whom was much more mature than her age. She was very bright and had dreams and aspirations to become a famous actress or dancer. Sadly her life was cut short as was most all her family from the savagery that is the human race.
History has a way of repeating itself because I don't think anything has changed. People are still continuously being persecuted, controlled and manipulated around the world, and not allowed to live free lives, with human rights and dignity.
Throughout this film I could not grasp that human beings could cause and inflict this much pain and suffering to one another. I can't grasp the amount of evil that exists in this world. I just hope good overcomes evil and those good stand up and be counted and don't let us forget the atrocities that have happened to innocent lives lost . Everyone born on this earth deserves to have a chance at living free.
Anne did not get to live a full life that she rightfully deserved , but her writings in her diary have kept her alive and will continue to live in our memories for decades and centuries to come for as long as people respect the past, she is always in our minds and always close in to our hearts.

Everyone should watch this film ,, that they should learn how lucky they are to be able to have your freedom to live ,,, poor Anne and her family had to hide in a attic for two years from the Nazi's ,,, when I think im having a bad day ,,, remember what the Jews went thru against those Nazi bastards in World War II ,,, whatever I'm going thru can never be as bad as what the Jews went thru in World War II.
