Not your average shelf

I was pleasantly surprised to find that this shelf really is as sturdy as they say. It reminds me of the solid furniture my aunt used to have in the childcare center she ran. This is not the typical cheap composite material you can buy at Target for way less money; this is a shelf that will stand the test of time. The back panel is actual wood, at least twice as thick as the cardboard crap you get with usual furniture, and it slides into grooves on all the shelf pieces rather than being tacked in with tiny nails. The hardware is also very thick, sturdy stuff. And I was also pleased to get casters with it - bonus! Now I know why I paid $140, and I'm not the least bit sorry. Totally worth the investment.

If only they had a way to lock the wheels

These shelves are a beautiful color. The wood feels strong and will hopefully be in our classroom a long time, but I’m so disappointed they have no way to lock the wheels. They are also heavier in the back and prone to tipping if too much weight is placed on the top back side so be careful of placement.

This shelf is perfect to keep toys on in my living room. My one year old can easily reach everything and I appreciated the neutral color instead of the usual obnoxious kid furniture. I only wish they didn't stamp their company name on the front in black- that's so ugly! (Fortunately there are usually toys on the floor in front of that so you can't see it.)

I was looking for a non-toxic bookcase for my toddler's room. The product information says it is made of "birch" but it looked like plywood in the picture. I called the company and they told me that it is a birch plywood, but it has "Greenguard Certification" and did not contain toxic chemicals. I put it together easily in about 40 minutes, but it was off-gassing so much that I got a headache, so I put it in the attic for a week. I probably should have kept it there another week to finish off-gassing.

It looks a little institutional, but does fit nicely in the small space I have available. The shelf is not moveable, and neither shelf is tall enough for a lot of standard picture books. The wheels work well.

This was very easy to assemble. Just 12 screws an allen wrench and the plywood pieces. The plywood is made of thin alternating light and dark layers; this is very visible on the edges of the boards. It makes it more obvious that other plywoods that it is not solid wood and gives the bookcase an institutional or modern look rather than a homey traditional feel. However the quality seems very good for the price. The color is much lighter than natural pine; it matches the color of our alderwood furniture very well.

I'm so disappointed in these shelves. At this price of $130, I was really hoping for better quality. The product came chipped and is made a cheap, thin wood. I need shelves immediately, so I can't return them at this point but I wish I could be refunded at least $100 for this because honestly, these shelves aren't worth more than $30...they are that cheaply made. So disappointed. I would NOT recommend this product. Go with the cheaper shelves here on Amazon with the mixed reviews because at least you won't be paying so much for the same crap.
