I never imagined I'd grow up to write reviews of dog poop bags on the internet, yet here I am. I guess when you spend as much time as I do standing outside waiting for your dog to poop while he smells the same spot for 20 minutes, you start to think about things.

First of all, I have a dog who has what I politely like to call "anxious tummy." Sometimes people scare him in my apartment hallway, and he accidentally goes right there on the steps. In this moment, it is SUPER CLUTCH to have an easy-to-open poop bag like this one at the ready. And yes, I've noticed that a lot of poop bags are so hard to get open, which is not ideal when you're trying to clean up an embarrassing mess before your cute neighbor who you saw on Tinder rounds the corner and steps in it and you're publicly shamed because your dog can't handle his bowels.

My dog also prefers the feeling of mulch underfoot as he relieves himself. It's really hard to pick up poop from mulch without also retrieving a bunch of mulch. Wood chips and plastic bags typically don't mix, but these bad boys (or should I say good boys?) are able to handle the mulch without ripping and tearing which is awesome in my book.

Lastly, I don't typically like the smell of fake lavender, but these actually have a really nice scent that does a fairly good job of blocking scent. Great for someone like me who is astonishingly lazy and will put it in my garbage can instead of walking the 500 feet to the nearest doggie waste station. (Don't judge.) VERY IMPORTANT. (See earlier cute neighbor anecdote.)

I thought these were compostable. Very misleading & I’m disappointed! I would’ve definitely bought the other brand if I would’ve known. They make it sound like they’re made of recycled materials and biodegradable/compostable of some sort. Yeah ok the tiny core of the roll is recycled. Whoopdy doo. Congratulations on confusing everyone.

Is it possible to love a dog poop bag? Heck yeah! I'm a veterinarian and I have tried many brands of bags over the years but since I discovered the Earth Rated Dog Waste Bags I use no other. I use the scented bags because on long walks it kind of disguises the smell of the feces (except those that are really potent), so you don't smell like feces to any passerby. I usually prefer unscented things because I have a sensitive nose and for those inclined, Earth Rated does offer non-scented bags. The Earth Rated bags are also a bit longer than a few other brands though most are similar length. However, the bags are definitely heavier than many other brands and also have way better sealed seams as well as high quality separation perforations. The central cylinder glides easily in every brand of bag holder I have. Lastly, a small but important detail...you know that small piece of tape that holds a new roll together? Most brands use a tape that when you pull it off it puts a hole in the opposing part of the bag if you don't very carefully remove it. A hole at the top of a bag is no big deal but further down can lead to leakage. The Earth Rated tape comes off real nice and my first bag isn't destroyed. Overall a very strong, well made bag that has never let me down. It can hold any load big or small, firm or loose and will not leak or tear.

Beware: These bags are a con - nothing "Earth Aware" about them

Nowhere on this page, the box, or the bags is there anything about them being biodegradable. They seem to be made of plain old medium-duty plastic. I'm sorry that I fell for the con; it's all marketing. They also stink of some perfumy scented chemical.
Look for your biodegradable bags elsewhere. I will.

After doing some extensive research the only thing eco-friendly about these bags is the recycled cardboard the box is made of they come in. The bags aren’t made from recycled plastic, they are not compostable, they are not biodegradable. I know they don’t made these claims but it’s trickery with marketing. My Alphapet poop bags are what you’re looking for. Made of cornstarch and biodegrade within a month. They even come scented if you desire. I live in SF and we do not use any plastic bags at all. So this probably bothers me more than most. But I’ve told all my friends with dog who were also shocked to find this out. They do make a biodegradable bag but it’s white and super expensive.

I buy these poo bags because they come in a convienient box which I out in the shelf and because there is little chance of me putting my finger through them.
I also dump them in the bin when used.

People need to stop assuming that because a poo bag is "earth rated" that they can bag the poo then hang it from a bush.
If you can't be arsed to carry it to the bin then best to not bag at all and let the foxes consume the high meat content pampered pooch poo.
Much better than coating out bushes in plastic decorations.

I use these bags almost exclusively. I also feel guilty every time I pick up a dog poo.

These bags are scented and of a good quality. Compared to those cheap black bags you can buy you feel much 'safer' using these. I've accidentally stuck my finger in dog poo too many times using the cheaper variants. My biggest gripe with these bags however is that they are are branded as 'green' and 'biodegradable' which is misleading. Truth is these are almost no different to any other dog poo bag you will buy that claims to be biodegradable. These are not made of starch or any other natural plant-based material that will degrade when placed in water and left. These are well marketed and branded glorified plastic bags. Simple. They will take many, many years to biodegrade and when they do they will leave traces of plastic in the soil. The manufacturer of the plastic additive claims 50% biodegradation after 18 months in a hot, wet and compacted environment. That means that if left in a field or bush it may not degrade for many, many years! This means that the bag can be ingested by animals like cows and horses leading to death.

Now considering these aren't cheap you need to ask yourself - am I only willing to pay this premium because they don't harm the environment and/I can chuck them into a bush somewhere and not feel bad? If the answer is yes then I wouldn't fall into the trap of purchasing these. If however you are willing to pay the premium for a slightly higher quality plastic bag then well... maybe these are for you. Just don't be fooled. I'm sure you could find a cheaper, similar quality alternative.

These bags are not biodegradable- misleading

These are absolutely not biodegradable bags and it is misleading of Amazon to allow the company to say they are. It says biodegradable on the product description, but on arrival they didn’t look or feel biodegradable and nowhere on the packaging does it say they are. Also if you look at the product Q&As they confirm they are not. You might as well use nappy sacks rather than these - cheaper. We have just ordered some compostible bags instead. We have two big dogs and the compostible bags work really well, are strong enough and actually do biodegrade.

Earth Rated bedeutet: Die Verpackung (der Karton) ist naja aus recycle Papier und der Kern der Rollen (ein Papierröllchen) auch.
Die Tüten sind dann wohl aus normalem Plastik.

Jetzt zu den 2 Sternen: Die Tüten riechen gut, halten bisher dicht (bis zum nächsten Mülleimer auf der Route) und sind schön lang. Manchmal bisschen fummelig um die zu öffnen (Tipp: leicht gegen die Öffnung pusten).
Aber für die irreführende Werbung gibt es die Punktabzüge
