Daughter wanted a pogo stick.

I'd had bad experiences with pogo sticks as a kid decades ago. They fell apart, made a mess, were loud and jangly, etc.

Not this one. It's solid as a rock, nicely padded, looks great and doesn't make a mess (so that I don't mind having it lean against the wall in her room), isn't loud and crazy sounding, and she picked up the skill within about 45 minutes and hasn't stopped bouncing since. It's been about a week and by now many thousands of bounces, and it works just as well as it did the first moment. She's eight years old and about 55 pounds, right in the range for this model.

For the price (less than your average skateboard, for example) it's hard to see how you could do better. If you have a kid that wants a pogo stick, this is a safe bet.

I felt as if I looked at so many of these pogo sticks trying to select the best one. I read so many reviews and I'm happy with the choice I made. We've had many long hours of use out of this pogo stick. My youngest weighs 58 pounds and my oldest who weighs 90 pounds have used it daily for the last few months. It's been left in the rain overnight and still going strong!

The quality of this pogo stick is excellent. I know because I bought a different pogo stick for my older son, and that other one is not nearly as sturdy, even though it was much more expensive. I ended up returning this particular Flybar pogo stick, however, because my 63-pound nine year old, who was already good at pogo sticking, bottomed out on it right away. If your kid is already really confident on the pogo stick, he/she will be able to bounce hard and high, which will make the stick bottom out. If your kid is learning, or perhaps not as crazy about using unstable objects as mine is, or simply a lot lighter, this stick will work perfectly, and it looks to me like it will last a good long time. Just be forewarned that if your kids start to bounce really high or hard, they will hit the bottom, which is painful and not all that fun. They should get the next size up.

Great first pogo stick

This is a great first pogo stick and my six year old daughter loves it.

I carefully read some of the negative reviews for the product before I purchased the stick and, as a mechanical engineer, can offer the following observations after several weeks of use:

1. The hard rubber center cap at the top is secured by a screw and should not easily come off unless it receives a hard knock. I always make sure that the cap is still secure before I let my daughter use the pogo and asked her to stop using the stick immediately if it appears to come off.

2. Some reviewers complain that the stick is not suitable for smaller kids. My daughter weighs around 45 lbs and can comfortably use the stick. In fact, if she jumps hard she will bottom out the spring. The weight range given in the description of 40 to 80 lbs is in the right ballpark, perhaps a little optimistic toward the upper end, i.e. at 80 lbs the spring is likely to bottom out a lot.

So when some reviewers complain about smaller kids not being able to use the stick, the kids are probably new to pogo jumping. The parents lift them up and balance them on the stick, and when the stick's spring does not compress they conclude that the kids are too young for the stick.

What they may not appreciate is that the spring is not supposed to compress (or only very little) with a static load of 40 or 50 lbs. If it did, the spring would be too soft for jumping, i.e. dynamic loading. It took my daughter half an hour or so to work out that in order to start, it is not sufficient to just step onto the stick but necessary to almost jump onto it with one's full weight.

So don't be confused or discouraged by reviewers complaining that the stick may not be suitable for smaller kids. If your kid weighs 40+ lbs they will be able to jump and enjoy the stick once they have mastered the skill.

3. The design of the rubber pad at the bottom appears to have changed from the picture above of the red/blue stick. The pad is now fairly large and even after substantial use it is still securely attached.

Generally, the stick appears to be well made. I particularly like the foam padding which makes the upper part of the stick quite safe. The only minor downside is that the chrome plating of the bottom (inner) tube will wear off quickly because of friction between the inner and outer tubes (steel rubbing on steel).

Overall, we are very happy with the product and the price. With a bit of common sense and attention I am sure the pogo will last and give our daughter and her friends lots of fun.

UPDATE NOVEMBER 2012: After more than two years of use, the pogo stick is still in good condition and we never had any issues with it - and our daughter is not the careful type! Neither the cap at the top, nor the rubber pad at the bottom have come off or given us any trouble. I noticed that the foam padding hardened somewhat over time, probably from exposure to the sun, but it is still OK. Our daughter is now 8 years old and while she can still use the stick, the spring bottoms out regularly so we will have to get a larger one soon if she wants to keep up pogo jumping. I upgraded my rating from four to five stars because the stick has served us very well.

This Pogo Stick was purchased for a child 42" tall and 38 pounds. He was very sure that he wanted to have a pogo stick. Initially it was very stiff and the balancing was difficult, but after a couple of weeks he is jumping all over the place and has designed a course jumping over boxes of various heights. One tip that was very helpful was to learn on a grassy surface rather than the cement sidewalk.

Purchased as a gift for our 7&9 year olds. They love them! My daughter weighs 48lbs & my son weighs 56lbs. Both got the hang of it pretty quickly, but be aware it’ll take a few rounds of jumping to loosen it up a bit! The only negavite I can think of is that kiddos over 60lbs may not enjoy it much as my son is already bottoming out the pogo at times, but overall we are so happy with these!

This was a gift for my nephew. They count the 7 days return from the day it’s ordered where as it should be form the day it’s delivered. So the rerun window is closed by the time it reached the respective destination. Also it came with a MISSING SPRING so it doesn’t even bounce. The whole idea is defeated very very disappointed. Trying to figure out how we can replace this for a new one which works

I bought this for my nephews, age 6 (50lb) and age 3 (30lb). I knew it would be a year or two before the 3 year old could use it. With his feet on the pedals, the top was right under his chin (dangerous). So I just held the stick and bounced him and he loved it. The 6 year old could make it bounce on his own. I held the stick straight while he got used to the balance, but he jumped on his own. It’s rated for 40-80lbs, but of course I had to jump on to see what it could handle. I didn’t jump, but with my full weight (180lbs) the spring barely bottomed out. I probably could have jumped, but I didn’t want to break it on the first day lol. That being said, and feeling how strong the spring is, I would assume that a kid around 125lbs could still bounce around freely. Overall it’s a great product and exactly as described. The kids love it, and I’m still the best uncle in the world👍

I purchased this product on Nov. 13th as a Christmas gift for my 8-year-old daughter, who was safely within the weight limit for this product.
Within 10 min of her hopping around we heard something snap inside and that was it for the pogo stick. Tears followed. Now that I am wanting to return this product, it appears that this is not eligible for Christmas gift returns either. Money out the window… Avoid this product.

My 9-yr- old saved up for this and loves it! It's a great way for him to bounce off his extra energy. It's spring is perfect for his 60 lb body although by the time he weighs 80 lbs I'm quite sure he'll be too tall. Just be careful of the grease on the shaft and the black rubber tip that marks up certain surfaces (like the walls and mat at the front door).
