They have nailed this. Julia is ever bit Martha Mitchell and Sean Penn is the spitting image of her husband John. I look forward to the coming weeks as the story unfolds. It was Watergate that made me lose trust in our government from that time forward. I was 20 in1973.

Well-done show about an important time when many Americans became aware of exactly how the sausage gets made--i.e. how power is accessed and held by political elites. Reviewers mentioning language and nudity seem to be missing the point--there was a criminal conspiracy at the heart of the nation's highest office. Sound familiar? And as for making villains look like buffoons, most of the time they are one and the same--surely in 2020 to 2022 we saw enough of that, being told to drink bleach and inject light to cure covid, not to mention the full-on clown show in Congress with complete idiots advising the White House to declare martial law to overturn a lawful election. It's easy to see that some reviewers simply don't want to confront the truth of the past or present, and how swearing and sex are far from being the biggest problems with our (fragile) democracy.

I was in college during Watergate. I remember very well the “handling” of Martha Mitchell and found the subject of this film fascinating. If you don’t mind a 1970s era subject remade with 21st century 90% full nudity, profanity and filthy language, maybe this series will work for you. I lasted 10 minutes. Sadly, it is a huge disappointment.

I’m sure this is great, but didn’t even make it more than a few minutes before an in your face nude scene. I was looking forward to this series, but now, won’t be watching it.

Roberts is at her best. Penn is always good. Reading reviewers who mention nudity...there is one scene. And reviewers who mention profanity, why be surprised that cussing was a thing in the 1970s LOL; after all, Gaslit is a story about the likes of Liddy and Nixon, who were savagely trying to steel an election, I'm sure they said a few 'bad' words.

Julia Roberts shines in this performance. Another standout is Betty Gilpin, the actress who plays Maureen (Mo) Dean. The story arc is well structured. However, extremely vulgar language and obscenities pepper every other scene. This could have been a truly elegant production with its dark tale to tell. But, no. What a shame.
UPDATE: To the reviewer who says why be surprised at the profanity, that profanity was common in the ‘70s too - there’s profanity and there’s profanity. Sean Penn as John Mitchell mixes obscenity with profanity with blasphemy. His acting is skillful. His judgment, in being okay with this dialogue, is way below par.

This is a great series, well acted, great set decoration, etc. It is rated MA which means "mature audiences". If you don't like vulgar language, nudity, smoking, drinking, and sexual scenes DON'T WATCH IT!! And, if you ignore it's MA rating and watch it, DON'T WRITE ONE STAR REVIEWS SAYING IT'S GREAT and then proceed to whine about it's vulgar language, nudity, etc. True life drama should not be sugar coated, it should be as realistic as possible.
