Horrible movie. Was really looking forward to it. Bad acting and jumps all over the place. We finally ended up turning it off bc it was that bad. How do you screw up a movie about Gotti?!? 🙄🙄

I read the reviews and that's what held me back from paying for this movie, once i saw it available for prime members I watched it immediately. I"m a native New Yorker born in the early 70's and have seen so much of Gotti and his fall. The media and Hollywood has had told so many stories and has literally beat the stories to death to the point that everyone thats followed is looking for a better story of the truth than what has been told already. Reading between the lines of this script and story thats been told seems to be genuine involvement from the Gotti family themselves, from what it looks like is real footage of the original Gotti home in Howard Beach. The Gotti family most likely wanted to tell their story (the real story) that has not been recognized in any other portrayal of the family. of Despite of what people think personally of John Gotti Sr if you love him or hate him, he became a man of the environment he was raised from. This story tells allot about Gotti Jr and what hes been through being raised at a time when his father became king of the only world he knew of at the time and followed his father, any kid I knew growing up would have done the same. I see more about Gotti Jr in this film and how he saved own family by walking away from the crime family, probably adding many years to his mothers life doing his best to clean up the trail of disaster his father left behind . Also in reviews I hear allot of bitching about the story jumping around going back and forth in time. Whoever cant follow this story and gets confused should stick to the previous fairy tale stories of Gotti that Hollywood has produced. My opinion is this was brilliant, Travolta and rest of cast nailed it..

I had heard a lot of bad reviews about this movie when it came out and even here on Amazon. Perhaps the acting could have been better but as I was watching this I started to think that maybe these "goodfellas" were actually more like what was being portrayed then the usual spit-and-polish we see in movies about the Mafia. Yes the movie did jump around but so does real life and certainly so did the life of these mobsters.

Many movies about the Mafia do nothing but glorify the life and crimes that they commit. This movie didn't seem to do as much of that --at least to me. I watched this because as a kid growing up in the 80's and 90's in NJ I heard a lot about John Gotti. I think if we ever saw a real depiction of Mafia life we wouldn't ever want to see it on the Big Screen again.

Over all the movie gave a good account of the highlights of Gotti Sr.'s life and I think that is what it set out to do. It is worth watching for those who grew up in this time in NJ and NY. No Mafia movie should be heralded as great cinema. The life they live is just as abhorrent as what government does and what corporations do to the little people on a daily basis. If we stop and think about it corruption, crime and evil should never be upheld at any time or any place. There is a much better way to live life.

I'm interested in the character and culture, fan of Travolta, but this was just plain bad in all phases. Watching documentaries on Gotti, five families of New York, Gambino, Cosa Nostra, etc. on Netflix much better option.

This is probably one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. It was so bad that I only watched the first 45 minutes and I was mad that I wasted that much time on it. If you’re interested in John Gotti read a book or watch a documentary. Save yourself the agony of sitting through the movie.

I suppose I don’t know anything about movies because after reading all the one and two-star reviews my four seems generous.

Having grown up in an Italian household many of the themes expressed by the Dapper Don ring familiar to my ears. Having lived near NYC from the late 70s-late 80s I’m very familiar with the news coverage of Mr. Gotti. The movie hits the highlights. Remember, John Gotti was a colossal figure for his day and it’s difficult to accurately piece portray such a life in 2 hours.

The flash backs and flash forwards, for me, explained Gotti’s world view, and why he was so persistent in maintaining Mafia values until his death.

In closing, I think a miniseries is the better format than a docudrama, but overall the movie does a decent job of accurately portraying the milestone, both good and bad, of Don John Gotti.

Other reviewers say it "jumped around" . True. Very hard to pick up a consistent thread and therefore very hard to relate. Nevertheless, John Travolta does a masterful job.
