Sad but true to life
Verified purchase
I have been wanting to see this film for a long time and was pleased to find it on Amazon Prime. I wish it would be released on DVD for my collection.

When two teens fall in love, they are met with many obstacles in the private school they are attending. Horrific acts by bullies on them and on the other students including the rape of a girl at the school. Very disturbing.

The villains of the story are the despicable director of the school, her staff, the father who beats his son and of course the bullies. Justice does not really prevail. So sad.

I was hoping for an uplifting ending but as in life that is not always the case.

The acting in the drama is excellent especially the actors playing the two teens in love. They gave a warmth to their roles and gave life to their characters. I was rooting for them from the outset. The other actors were good and you either liked them or hated them.

There is a strong message in this film. But unfortunately, the ending sends a poor message for the youth in similar circumstances.

Not to be missed. An emotional, thought provoking film. Keep the tissue box handy.

An Amazing movie

I picked this movie to watch as a casual moment of boredom at the moment, I could not lose a minute away from the storyline". as I realized the ending and to my total surprise and devastation how this is and or as part of real-life issues and its even happening till this day".. left me tears rolling down my cheeks as I stood up sitting from bed and in one moment found myself feeling my heartburn as I prayed to visualize in my prayers all the guardian angels around the world in this second helping put a young soul hand down from committing this act".through there guardian angels from uk to Russia to Asia to Canada to the United States and all in between as I can see a visual mental connection all gathering as one to help.. this has been an amazing learning experience thank you so much the creators of this movie' for it helps bring light to were there still darkness, and every human soul that knows what is love, compassion, appreciation of life, aspirations, please pass this movie along for it very well help save a young mind out there that yes there's hardship in life but life is beautiful as well".. You just have to give yourself a chance to see it"..WRR. aka WG

Other reviews miss the point.

I found this movie to be absolutely beautiful. I also found that some of the others who reviewed this movie missed the point. There are plenty of gay movies that tell beautiful love stories. As a gay man, I watch them all the time! You're obviously not looking hard enough. That sad, this movie isn't one of those. This movie isn't suppose to be one of those. Mariposas Verdes tells the very true story of how antiquated laws, rules, or mindsets (in addition to lack of legal protections) still plague the lgbt community within many countries. I live in the U.S, yet I didn't have the right to be married until only five years ago. And even then, I could be fired from my job just because of my sexuality and have no legal recourse. And for lgbt folks, this is having it nice. I couldn't imagine if I was in a country where I could be imprisoned or even killed for being gay. LGBT youth are 3 times as likely to contemplate suicide and 5 times as likely to attempt. So yeah, this isn't a happy love story, nor should it be.

This movie had me in tears, second only to E.T.

Very powerful and emotional movie with such a very sad ending. I dont like doing spoilers however this movie is a must watch. Thanks for the English subtitles since I do not know Spanish. I hope one day I may possibly date a Spanish dude that could teach me the Spanish language and the Spanish love style. I truly would have liked a better turn of events at the end and we could have seen that BAD PRINCIPAL BARBARA go down. She deserved anything and everything coming at her for how she treated the entire student body. This movie was well written and executed. All the Actors get high honors from me.

Never have I cried from a movie since I was a youngster watching E.T. The Extraterrestrial way back in 1982! This movie i highly recommend especially if you are a person questioning your sexuality. This movie will make you laugh, get angry, get sad and get happy.

Loved the movie; hated the principal.
Contains spoilers so stop now if you don't want any...

I hate that it's based on true events because it didn't have a happy ending. So many of these movies don't. I'm glad they're being made. I wish they'd been out there when I was younger. Would've been cool to see that there were more of us out there, but I guess now it's less a secret and hopefully there will be more happy endings type movies coming soon. For now, we have what we have, and this is a beautifully shot movie with good acting, and a story I wish weren't as common as to make the ending feel predictable.

ANYONE who has known this struggle, anyone who has known kids who have suffered though this struggle.. will get it.. the jerk that reviewed and sad., "what is the point" is as guilty as the kid who raped the girl in the bar.... ugly spirits... the point is.. to help and protect, and to love our kids, our children, no matter what comes their way... unconditional love... if we expect it for ourselves from God.. and we believe that God created our children from unconditional love, than this remind many, that no matter, we can not leave our loved ones aside, they always have to be first. There are huge points to be made in this movie.. huge. How stupid that anyone can say.. "what is the point". It brilliant work... I felt every feeling those kids were having.. all of them.. as once a student as as a teacher. I have see this.. and fought it in my classrooms. Fortunately I never had such an administrator as the rigged one in this movie, but I certainly had and knew teachers that cruel.

I thought that this movie tackled the reality of what goes on in the real world and how screwed up people can be and it also made a really great point on how not everyone gets the justice that they deserve. The only reason I did not give this movie 5 stars was because there was not an English version but other than it was amazing. Hope that those who are struggling with the darkness of this world can find the light and follow it to a better future

Good story with lots of hurdles to fine true love.

I liked the movie. It had a lot of adversity, but mixed in with a good love story. The subtitles seemed to translate well. I think the acting was pretty good especially considering Mose gay films have a lower budget and have really poor acting skills. This isn’t one of those. There was a huge cast, a lot of different locations. I started watching one a while back and they only had two scenarios, both with the same worn leather couch, just arranged differently in the house (trying to mimic two different houses. The acting in that one was horrible.

Anyways, if you consider renting it (if it’s not included in your prime account) I’d certainly do it.
