"Grimm" is a drama series inspired by the classic Grimm's Fairy Tales. Portland homicide Detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli) discovers he is descended from an elite line of criminal profilers known as "Grimms," charged with keeping balance between humanity and the mythological creatures of the world. As he tries to hide the dangers of his new found calling from his fiancé, Juliette Silverton, (Bitsie Tulloch), and his partner, Hank Griffin (Russell Hornsby), he becomes ever more entrenched in the ancient rivalries and alliances of the Grimm world. With help from his confidant, Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell, a reformed Grimm creature himself, Nick must navigate through the forces of a larger-than-life mythology, facing off with Hexenbiests, Blutbads and all manner of ancient evils, including royal lines dating back to the original profilers themselves, The Grimm Brothers. Reggie Lee and Sasha Roiz also star.

If you hate scared-to-the-bone horror but love a well-told somewhat scary intricate story, you'll love Grimm.

I had avoided this series ever since it started despite hearing others rave about it, but finally a couple of weeks ago I read a review somewhere that indicated it wasn't all about deep dark nasty vicious ugly sick relentless horror. I am a cop show fan, detective show fan, mystery fan, a sort-of sci-fi and sword-and-sorcery fan, but absolutely not a horror fan. Steven King's Pet Cematery left me with nightmares, and I haven't read another of his books or any other horror novels since then. And if you want to watch horror movies, you can darn well do it without me. So I hesitantly watched the first episode of Grimm.......and I've been hooked ever since. I'm now about halfway into the second season and still intrigued, curious, and on the verge of binge watching because I have been drawn more and more into the storylines. The actors and actresses from the main characters to the supporting characters are very well chosen, the main plotlines and the subplots weave together seamlessly, and there's enough lighter and humorous interaction scenes interwoven with the grosser horrifying episodes that it lightens the overall tone. My husband cut his teeth on the classic Hammer Studios horror films, and Grimm reminds me a greatly of those in a very positive way. I will not put any spoilers or more specific details about the plotlines because I do not want to spoil it for anyone else who hasn't started watching the show.

What's a Grimm...??
Verified purchase
I watched the entire six season series. I found it entertaining, but it very much went down the path of a soap opera. Everyone changed sides & loyalties at one or more points during the series. It became a problematic anthology with lead characters being developed to change their minds as to right and wrong as they went along. In addition, the fight scenes were the typical Hollywood quick action clips using close-ups. You knew their was a fight, but you really didn't have any idea who was winning or losing until the fight was over and the camera pulled back. I assume Hollywood does this now because if we saw the actors throwing punches, we'd quickly realize many of them are uncoordinated & ackward. But that's okay... when a fight scene started I knew it might be time to go for a quick snack. The sixth season attempted to tie it all together with suggested interpretations associated with biblical end-time events, but were very much counterintuitive to actual scripture. I've come to accept this from Hollywood as a guided misdirection, but it probably won't change anytime soon. Just my opinion...

If you enjoy sci-fi and/or fantasy, and are intrigued by strange creatures, Grimm may be right down your alley
Verified purchase
Let me say first that Grimm isn't for everyone. If you don't like sci-fi/fantasy, or strange creatures, or dark themes, you probably won't like Grimm. But if you enjoy sci-fi/fantasy, and are intrigued by strange creatures, Grimm may be right down your alley.

One of the things I enjoy most about Grimm is the cast, and the humor. Overall, Grimm deals with dark themes, but there's lots of comedic relief. The main character Nick develops close friendships with several strange and likable characters, who have become the protagonists in the series.

If you order Season 1 or Season 5 on Blu-ray, be sure to check if you're getting the standard plastic Blu-ray cases (which I prefer), or the crummy cardboard cases. The cardboard cases have more artwork, but are a hassle when removing/inserting the disks.

A study in human nature ... and more!
Verified purchase
I binged on Grimm for a couple of weeks and just finished Season 4, all on Prime. Anxiously awaiting Season 5 to be Primed! Now I'm reviewing the first season to let newcomers, those who appreciate the horror genre, know that this is an amazing series unlike any others offered on mainstream TV! For me likable, even lovable, main characters are a key factor in deciding if I'll continue watching. Monroe, Rosalee, and Bud are "wessen" who remain steadfastly lovable while the others evolve as their mysterious natures develop. Each Grimm episode keeps us guessing: Who is really evil to the core? Or can they allow their basic humanity to subdue the beast within? Even those wessen who choose to live a "normal" life constantly struggle with conflicting urges. Grimm is really a study in human nature and the mythology created by human minds. And the fact that several of the actors are fluent in German, Spanish, and French lends credence, if you will, to the history of these ancient stories. Bravo to the casting department!

Love the cases...
Verified purchase
To be honest, I am late to the Grimm party. I didn’t watch regularly when it aired some years ago. I feel weird posting a review now because it is a things of the past.

The season was cool due to Nick and Hank and the cases they worked to solve. All of the different creatures he (Nick) was able to see was awesome.

I am not a fan of the girlfriend for some reason and the blond girl (CC) strikes me as someone Nick is going to “enjoy” as I continue watching the different seasons. For him to be contemplating marriage, he surely has an eye for the blond.

Anyway, it is a decent watch. Especially the “Love Sick” and “Woman in Black” episode. I laughed so hard when Hank invited the blond to the bar. David Giuntoli and Claire Coffee acting reminded me of a night out with friends where something similar happened... hilarious... it was so real. My friend told her then boyfriend a few choice words before breaking it off and then suggested that he and the other person out for dinner with us another term for “do it” already”; it was so obvious that they wanted too. That is how I felt watching the blond woman and Nick go back and forth with Nick later snatching her arm looking as if he wanted to kiss her. Mary Elizabeth proved age is nothing but a number in Woman in Black. She was a true bad butt.

Standard Superhero with an Engaging Subplot.
Verified purchase
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this show. Initially, it seemed like just another superhero versus the monster of the week show, and it does have that element, but several shows into the season a major subplot having to do with the historic rulers of the monster world entered the scene and the police captain appears to be much more than a mere mortal and is in rebellion against those rulers (exactly how isn't clear), which provides enough additional drama to hold _my_ interest.
There have been several shows where I just checked out early or jumped over 20 or so minutes of the plot, but generally I've enjoyed watching and it has been a good diversion from my fairly mundane life.
I'm not good with shows that feature high tension action, but I find enough humor - and distance from my reality - that it works for me here. The Grimm, Detective Nick Burkhardt played by David Giuntoli, is a little to pretty for my taste, I would prefer someone who looks a little more battle hardened, but he's not that bad an actor, and I can see why the show has lasted for more than 100 episodes. I'm not sure if I'll watch season two; well, we'll see.

I'm addicted to Grimm
Verified purchase
I seem to be addicted to this show.
Before I first saw it, fairy tales were becoming popular in Television and film, so I expected something that was quickly slapped together, without any forethought, and generic writing. But once I started watching, it drew me in.
Though they started connected to fairy tales, they seemed to be using it as a reference, but creating their own stories, and mythos only loosely based on Grimm's Fairy Tales.
I do give them a pass on some of their effects, especially in the beginning. I understand budget constraints, but wonder if they are avoiding upgrading some of their effects for consistency. The Blutbaden look a little more like a cartoon, while later introduced "wesen" have more realism.
That being said, I think story and performing is more important than effects. If I can accept 70's Doctor Who effects, I can accept this.
I will also say they have surprised me. There are plenty of shows where I expect things to happen, just because that's the way everyone else writes. They follow the writing formula so closely that they lose all creativity. But I haven't found too much of that here. Not sure you can get away from in completely, but they have enough to satisfy me.

😍MUST WATCH THIS INCREDIBLE SHOW!!!! 😍
Verified purchase
I have seen the ads for this show, but never got around to actually watch it.
Until, recently when I came across it threw Amazon Prime. I LOVED IT RIGHT AWAY!!!
So, when Amazon started to ask for money to continue watching the remaining episodes that weren't included in the Amazon Prime Package.
How could I just STOP WATCHING AT THAT POINT?
I was sooooo hooked that it had became a complete obsession!!
After I finished the last episode of season 4. I literally was researching the date and time of the next season start up, from my cell (and the credits from the last episode were not even 1/2 way finished yet.).
Once I had completed that task. I made sure to add "Grimm" to my recording's on my DVR.
Can anyone say "a little bit obsessive much?" (Lol!)?
I would definitely recommend this show for anyone who likes or loves SY-FI/Mystery/Trillers/Semi-Horror?/and Comedies (I felt that there was a great deal of funny and amusing dialogue's threw out this show. Other's may see thing's differently then me. However, that's what makes everyone so special.).
I would have to say "just watch a few episodes or more to really get into the plot a bit. Before, you decide whether to stop watching it.
Some shoes will start of a little bit slower or semi-weak in the very beginning. However, if you end up staying with that show. You would be very surprised by how much action and how much depth is in the plot and each episode. Making you want to come back for the next episode over and over again!
I can truly say that "Grimm" is now one of my favorite t.v. shows right now (along with: "Supernatural", "Vampire Diaries", "Walking Dead", and "The Originals", just to name some).
I really hope you are able/willing to check this show out. Because, I really feel like the people that haven't seen this show yet are truly missing out on one heck of a show!!
I LOVE GRIMM!!!! 😍
I want to say "Thank You to the AMAZING WRITERS, who have an incredible imagination and are so brilliant with all of the details, even down to the smallest thing's!!" And of course to the actors and Actresses, I would like to say "Thank You for all of your hard work and true dedication to your roles. You are all, so incredibly amazing to watch in every episode. When, I am watching this show, I feel so immersed in the story, that I truly have felt like I'm there in that world at times! I believe that even if the amazing script and plot was the same, but the actors/actresses were completely different. This show (in my opinion), would not be as incredible as it is and would probably not make it part the 1st season.".
I also, would like to say "Thank You to the Producers, Directors, Make-Up Artists, Costume Designer's, Fight Scene Choreographer's, Stunt Crew, Hair Dressers, Assistants and every single person that helps make this show possible. No matter what your job title is. Because, for the people who absolutely love this show, if it wasn't for everyone of your very talented and truly amazing team. This show would not be as superb as it obviously is!!" 😍😊
I hope this show lasts for a very, very long time!!
I really, really can't wait to see season 5 and much more!!! MORE GRIMM!!! MORE GRIMM!!! MORE GRIMM!!!
P.S. Please, don't kill off Juliet (if you can help it.) and also, I really LOVE ALL OF THE CAST MEMBERS!! PLEASE, try your best not to kill off the very main characters. Also, one last request (kind of), I have read from the chat rooms that some people feel that "Nick" is most likely going to be in a very "down mood" (due to the last events from season 4) and some people are saying that this could possibly be what the plot is centered around at-least 1/2 way threw the 5th season.
They continued on to say, that if this does happen then these people will stop watching the show.
I will continue to watch until the very last episode no matter what happens (I'm extremely loyal to this show!)! Good Luck to everyone and congratulations on 4-amazing and awesome seasons and I REALLY LOOK FORWARD TO SEASON 5 and beyond!! I wish everyone well and again I would love to say "THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR THIS INCREDIBLY ENTERTAINING SHOW!!!".
Thank you all again and I'm sorry for the very long review. I just felt that these amazing people should hear a great deal of appreciation from their fans. To anyone that is upset about this very long message. Please, let it go and move on with your life. Life is too short to spend it complaining over something so silly. No body forced you to read it in the first place. I just wanted to pay my respects to everyone that is involved in the making of the awesome show "GRIMM".
Thank You all for taking your time to read this and I hope you are enjoying this show as much as I am. Take care and "GO TEAM GRIMM/Nick!!!!"!
