Ingredients

Maltodextrin, buttermilk, salt, monosodium glutamate, lactic acid, dried garlic, dried onion, spices, citric acid, less than 1% of: calcium stearate, artificial flavor, xanthan gum, carboxymethylcellulose, guar gum, natural flavor (milk, soy). Contains: Milk, Soy.

Directions

For fresh dressing, in a bowl, combine 1 cup milk and 1 cup mayonnaise* with 3 tablespoons of mix.. Mix well. Cover and refrigerate. Chill 30 minutes to thicken. Stir before serving. For fresh dip, in a bowl, combine 16 ounces sour cream* with 3 tablespoons of mix. *For less fat and fewer calories, use low fat or fat free mayonnaise or sour cream.

It's Good BUT Very High In Salt

There's no denying I like this product and use it but I do limit the amount I use and how often I use it. It's VERY high in salt. 1/4 Tsp has 60 mg of salt. That doesn't sound like much until you consciously realize that's for JUST 1/4 tsp. Since most recipes call for the use of this in tablespoons it adds up. One recipe I use this in is Lean Ground Turkey Taco Chili which is delicious but it calls for 2 TABLESPOONS. Since there are 3 tsp in a tablespoon that comes to 1440 mg of salt. Wow...I actually just surprised myself by doing the math for this review. 1/4 tsp X 4 = 1 tsp or 240 mg of salt. 3 Tsp = 1 Tbs so that's 720 mg of salt in 1 Tbs. That means 1440 mg of salt in 2 tablespoons of this. The 2 recipes on the container (Mashed Potatoes and Cheeseburgers) both call for 1 oz of mix each which is 2 Tbs. Both recipes serve 4 so, again, that's A LOT of salt. The mix contains both salt and MSG.

Actually this review is funny because I learned a lot myself by doing the math. I just convinced myself to use it even more sparingly...lol Like I said, it is good...but maybe people who need to limit their salt intake should be aware!!!

I bought this Hidden Valley Ranch seasoning to make home made dressing, HOWEVER, I ended up putting it on EVERYTHING, in scrambled eggs, on pasta, in hummus, in chicken breading, on french fries and tater tots, on.... you get the point. It adds so much flavor to what ever you sprinkle it over. One jar lasts quite a while. Well over a month for a single person and I used it almost daily. Try deep frying chick peas until crunchy then while still hot sprinkle Hidden Valley Ranch seasoning generously over them and enjoy!

This larger container saved me quite a bit of money in the long term. It's not just for ranch dressing or dip, but you can shake in chicken breading or even zucchini or eggplant breading and pan bake: One cup of Italian breadcrumbs, plus half a cup of parmesan cheese, and instead of the garlic powder I usually use, I add a scant tablespoon of Hidden Valley Original Ranch powder to that mix. Dip your thinly sliced chicken or veggies in beaten eggs with a little water, press front and back onto the breadcrumbs ( I use a paper plate here to save on clean up) and place on a lightly oiled baking pan at 375 degrees. I flip halfway through - if the chicken is thin I'd say 23 minutes - and allow the other side to brown. Yes, it's still little oil but it's healthier than frying. I also make a pasta salad with the Hidden Valley Ranch, using the dressing recipe but adding a little more powder to make the flavor stronger: 1 pound bowtie pasta cooked that I cool with a small package of frozen peas right in the colander, I add a shredded large carrot, some chopped green onions, a cup of shredded sharp cheddar cheese or more if you like, and a package of cooked and chopped turkey bacon (you can use pork bacon or even chicken or shrimp). My family also likes fresh cracked pepper in this. This is a great summer lunch you can make the night before and serve next day with fruit slices. So Hidden Valley Ranch Salad dressing is not just for green salads. This is a pantry staple for me.
