This thing worked straight out of the packaging! It has a small “device pairing” instruction sticker on the packaging if yours does not work right out of the package.
Overall, if you lost your original remote like I did, this is the way to go.
I looked into various “Universal Remotes” prior to buying this, and have used them in the past. Not worth the hassle! If you own an insignia then buy this and you’re worries are over!

The remote paired with my insignia fire tv right out of the box (after supplying batteries of course) and it works perfect. The only strange thing I’ve found is that my remote seems to be scuffed all over as if it underwent heavy use, but it works without a hitch so I’m not too bothered by its appearance! I would definitely recommend this remote to anyone looking for a replacement!
