Bought this for our living room and liked the color scheme more than most others available on Amazon.

The quality is really bad - the screws don't fit/are too large, the dowels make it really hard to grip and put together, the screws strip easily, and there's chipped parts of the paint/lacquer. Terrible... now that it's assembled I'm not sure how I'm supposed to return it.

Do not buy this - buy anything else (especially if it's for kids).

This was such a waste of time and money. The assembly is so flawed. The rods you place into the boards are not threaded. You’re just supposed to force threaded screws into them. Let me add that the screws are not pointed but flat on the ends which is totally bizarre. We had to hold the rods super tight just to get them to stay still to do the screws. Talk about rug burn to the hands. Half way through we said screw it (no pun intended) and took it apart. It was just as difficult to pull apart. A good 2 hours wasted I would say. No parent wants to deal with this mess.

I ordered this and it was late, but the main issue I have is that when I opened it, I noticed a damaged area. It looks like it was hit and they tried to correct it with some white paint. Absolutely horrible... I will be returning it.

EDIT: I ordered this item again because I truly think it would work wonderfully for us. Once again, it was damaged. I will be returning and looking for a bookcase elsewhere.

The bookcase is adorable but there is apparently not a uniform size for dowels/screws/holes. Although I am usually good at assembling, I spent hours trying to get screws in. Manually and with drill- and then the screws were stuck halfway and would not go in or out. Turned the project over to daughter and husband. No luck. I became determined only cause- shipping this mess would have been even more time consuming. Turned project over to son and with help from two high tech auto mechanics, they were able to get the screws out and bookshelf assembled. Seems from reviews either the screws go right in- or they do not fit at all. I would recommend anyone ordering- try one screw and see which category your set fits into!

While this was not expensive, you pretty well get what you pay for. It is very attractive, but very cheap quality. The wood is like a pressed board, but worse is the finish. The white outside is like a paper that is glued on. You might not notice on first glance, but some of the corners were not glued down well so I had to glue them down myself. (Had I not needed it right away for a shower gift, I'd have kept looking for something else or at least ordered another to see if it was in better shape.) This certainly won't last long, but for the price I consider it throw-away furniture.

Purchased this for son's books, and It was about 10 screws, 3 wood parts, and assembling the fabric part.

The part where people say the screws are too long, is only true if you happen to get a wood rod that was not pre-drilled far enough. Easy fix; use a drill appropriate to the length of screw, and/or get shorter screws yourself from hardware store.

Overall I love the look, and the price, so my only gripe that took two stars away, was that I hated the instructions. They were hard to read, and obnoxious.

Love the pattern on this and that it's very shallow so it saves a lot of space in our small nursey. Putting it together was kind of a pain thought. Some of the pre-drilled holes weren't done well enough and it was a struggle to get the screws in all the way to the point where my hand ripped up and some of the screw heads got stripped. Cute design and space saver, but a better way to assemble that doesn't cause damage would be great.

I bought this exact bookcase 3 years ago. The quality has gone way down hill. All the screws stripped while I was trying to put it together. Some I can’t even get in all the way. Also my first bookcase has sewn in pockets for each rod. This one only had 3 sewn in pockets. If books are taken out of one row then the rows fall apart. My first bookcase I would give 5 stars. Had no issues. This one is horrible!
