I wasn't expecting much but bought these based on the positive reviews. I actually initially bought these to use as party napkins because prefer the thick cloth like napkins but couldn't afford to buy a lot of real cloth napkins. Cut 10 sheets in half and put them out. The pink was perfect for my daughters bday party last weekend! I've been reusing one sheet for the past week since reciecing them for household use and I am so impressed! These are very absorbant and I used it to dry a bunch of dishes from the party. I've used the same cloth to wipe down counters and even as a wash cloth. After each use I've washed it out really good with Dawn and once dry I can use it again. No tearing or funky texture change and they rinse out very easily.
My initial expectations were low because I've been trying to use a different "reusable" bamboo paper towel in the past. After using once they always looked fuzzy and funky. The funky texture made it also hard to rinse out any little particles of dirt or food. My husband always threw them away because he thought they were trash and didn't realize I was trying to reuse them. Basically, they were great in theory but not great in reality.
I am 100% only buying these from now on. Great quality, cute color, fast delivery, and a big bang for the buck. I imagine this one roll lasting a long time! And since these are cute and pink my husband knows not to throw them away 😉.

Greenwashing and the Persistence of Plastic.

Look on the box of these bamboo towels and read the ingredients: Bamboo Pulp and PP. That’s Polypropylene, a plastic. What is plastic doing in a bamboo towel that is supposed to be eco-friendly? I asked the seller. I got a thoughtful response. This product contains a small amount of polypropylene “to make the pulp stick to the shape of paper, so that it can handle the cleaning work.” They go on to explain that “KitchLife's products can be used repeatedly many times, so a lot of paper consumption is reduced. This is an eco move. On the other hand, compared with other daily used rags, their ingredients are non environmentally friendly man-made fibers. About 80% of KitchLife's products are organic degradable ingredients, so it is more eco-friendly.”I get that. But we still have a long-term problem: plastic’s persistence in the environment. Plastic fibers break into smaller pieces in the long term, but they do not biodegrade unless made from plants, which is still rare except in some food-handling products. Since the manufacturer does not mention bioplastic, I assume that the polypropylene in this case is made from chemicals that originated as fossil fuel. Every time you wash one of these towels (or any plastic-based fabric), micro plastics are released into the water. Micro plastics are generally not stopped by filters and wind up in waterways and oceans.Marine biologists are concerned about the microplastics that are consumed by marine animals. A 2019 study found that “Polyethylene, polypropylene and polystyrene are the most abundant microplastics in the Mediterranean coastal waters.” You can easily find other studies.It is the strength of polypropylene that makes these towels stay together so you can wash them. But that same strength becomes a problem downstream. By the way, microfiber cloths have the same problem, and probably worse.Oh, and the box has a plastic window in it so I can’t even recycle the box.
