I'm glad Kristen Schaal has found success as an actor.

After enjoying Kristen Schaal's endearing comic performances in "Flight of the Conchords" and "Get Him to the Greek" I was looking forward to watching her do stand-up comedy, which is apparently how she got started in show biz.

But her performance "Live at the Fillmore" didn't work for me. She didn't seem very comfortable on stage; and while I saw the potential in her jokes, she didn't land most of them squarely enough to make me laugh.

You Should Still Support Kristen Schall!

Kristen's a great comedian & a teriffic actress, which is why you shouldn't let this special disuade you. For 2/3 of the special, she delivers a strong set - then something doesn't seem to land right, and it feels like it was hard to recover from. Every great entertainer deserves a credit for giving their fans an honest try, and Kristen earns that. This title, however, is worth more as a one-time streaming rental than a Blu-Ray Collector Edition purchase. She'll get'em the next one, no doubt.

Funny, surreal, a little unhinged

I only knew her from Bob's Burgers and there's bits here that could have been written by a scarily intelligent nine-year-old. Kristen Schaal has a comedy vision. If you liked Hannah Gadsby's show Nanette, you will like this special.

if you tried to critique this comedy show like all others, you will leave a bad comment,
the whole point, if you understood KS's style of humor, you would know that is was deliberately bad. especially the 45 min version shown on CC
the full length version make much more sense.

It's painful to watch

Sorry, but the awkward moment when she breaks down because her set is bombing just isn't entertainment. It's painful to watch. I feel for her, but why did that have to make it into the special? If they cut that out and made it half the length, it would be an entertaining bit of comedy.

...If you're willing to trust her and just let it happen, because this isn't like other stand-up shows out there. It's surreal and often brilliant. The tiniest joke is developed into an amazing performance with perfect commitment and skill. I think Kristen has a background in theater, I know she has one in sketch- in this she makes use of both and goes beyond the typical stand-up format into something very different. If you don't like silly or strange humor, this isn't for you. If you do, you'll never be able to shut up about this comedy special. I haven't. It's been months. I've lost many friendships. My boyfriend hates me.

I enjoy some of her work very much. I subscribed to the Comedy Central Stand Up Subscription specifically for this. I enjoyed most of it, but didn't find the second half as interesting. It dragged on. The heckle was funny. I was amused with it. There's a finite limit a performer may hold the audience's sympathies. It was fun playing with that for a bit, but it's not my thing. There's no need to say I didn't get it. It's pretty easy to get the concept of a tale of two shows.

My greater issue is with the Comedy Central subscription. It blows. One of the faults this work suffered from is the forced edits or pauses. My guess is this is where they place commercials. As the show progresses, this sucks the energy right out of the concept. I really enjoy Schaal's work. I was excited for this show. It's worth a watch, but you'll find better clips on youtube. It's poor when youtube clips seem more seamless. That's CC's fault and not the performer.

I'm please this was only a trial. I gave three shows a chance. I'd rather watch youtube or attend a show.
