5.0 out of 5 starsLeviton is the brand I usually go for and I love their clamping system for wiring the device
Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2017
Well, Leviton is the brand I usually go for and I love their clamping system for wiring the device. I purchased two of these for such a great price. However, I wired one GFCI with two regular receptacles going downstream that are "GFCI protect outlets".

Here is my complain, I used my tester and all three devices in the circuit says "Correct" when I test them for proper wiring. I used my meter and all three give me 120v. So all is good so far. However, when I test and "reset" the GFCI, the LED light flashes ONCE and the LED light states blank. NO GREEN LIGHT.

Has anyone else had this issue?

So Wiring is correct, all receiving 120v but the LED status light blinks ONCE at reset and is OFF BUT the devices are all working properly.

Defective?

UPDATE: 8/23/17: I spoke with a tech support representative last night at Leviton and I questioned the above statement. Per the tech, Leviton has "significantly" reduced the brightness of the LED status light and he recommended looking at the status light at NIGHT TIME and I did just that. The light is faintly green but it is functional and operating properly. Customers were complaining about the LED status light being TOO bright in their homes that was more of a distraction while siting in a darken room. Makes sense.

Also, the ONE BLINK of red status light the moment you reset the GFCI is NORMAL according to the representative that I spoke to.

Overall, I am happy with my purchase! Thanks!

1.0 out of 5 starsFaulty out of the box!
Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2018
I’ve purchased a few of these with good results until this one. Bought this one to replace a 13 yr old GFI that would trip occasionally. Read the instructions and replaced my old one lead-for-lead. Green ‘test’ light on and no test/reset regardless of what I did. Put the old one back in and threw this unit in the trash. China QC (or lack, thereof) strikes again. Won’t be purchasing more of these.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice outlet, but seriously Leviton, you had to swap the line and load locations???
Reviewed in the United States on April 22, 2020
Color: WhiteSize: 20 AmpStyle: ReceptacleVerified Purchase
this is a nice outlet at a solid price. I had an existing GFCI outlet that would no longer reset, so I swapped it out for this one. Now, this was a primary circuit outlet nicely wired in by the builder of the house, so it has 7 solid copper wires going to it (3 hot, 3 neutral, 1 ground) all nicely wired in and bend and packed into the outlet box. Replacing this outlet should have been a simple "pull the receptacle out of the box, disconnect the wires, reconnect the wires to the new receptacle, and nestle it back into the outlet box". Instead, because Leviton decided to swap around the line and load locations, I had to unpack a nest of wires, wrestle them all around to fit the new locations, and then re-nest the bundle of seven wires back into the outlet box... and that was WAY more work than it should have been just to replace a receptacle. Seriously, Leviton, your hot and neutral are in the normal locations, your ground is in the normal location, but you had to switch around the line and load locations? If I have another GFCI go out, I'll probably pay a little more and get a receptacle that is laid out the same to make replacement easier/quicker... a few extra $$ is worth it to me for a quick and easy replacement.

5.0 out of 5 stars WIRING IS REVERSED LOOK AT THE DIAGRAM!
Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2020
Color: WhiteSize: 20 AmpStyle: ReceptacleVerified Purchase
To preface, I have installed/replaced at least a few GFCI outlets in my life with success, and this is the first time I came across one that was wired the opposite of all the other GFCI outlets I have worked with.
Every other time I replaced one, I simply pulled the old one out, and went around the connectors, detaching wires from the old one, and attaching them to the new one, one by one, to make sure I didn't mix up any wires, and to make sure they got wired to the correct connectors (I'm not an electrician, so I just go based off of looks for the most part, and a little common sense).

Well this particular Leviton GFCI took me 3 tries to get right, and I only discovered the issue after looking at the wiring diagram, looking at the back of the Leviton GFCI, and then cross referencing with the back of the two older GFCI's I had laying around (I originally replaced the old 20amp with a new 15amp which was the only one at my local store, and then ordered this one to replace the 15 amp since it's a 20amp circuit), and this is what I discovered:
The standard wiring (or what I am calling standard based off of majority vote from every GFCI I have purchased/pulled from walls), if you are looking at the back side of the GFCI, is as follows:
At the top you have your two LOAD charges, black/live connects to the left, and white connects to the right
At the bottom the have your two LINE charges, again with black/live on the left, and white on the right
And finally on the very bottom/underside you have your ground wire connection point

Every GFCI outlet I have experience was wired as such, and this is how the Leviton GFCI differs:
At the top, instead of 2 load charges, the two LINE connections are on the top this time, still with black/live on the left, and white on the right
At the bottom you now have two LOAD CHARGE connections instead of the 2 line connections, and again still black/live on the left and white on the right
And then still the ground connector is on the very bottom/underside

To summarize: normally GFCI outlets have the LINE connections at the bottom near the ground connection, and the LOAD up top, but these Leviton GFCI outlets have the LOAD connections at the bottom with the ground, and the LINE up top.
This means if you wire the outlet exactly like the one that was in your wall it will not work. you have to flip your black wires, and flip your white wires
For me 2 black were on top and 1 black on bottom, and 2 white on top 1 white on bottom, and had to change it to 1 black on top and 2 black on bottom, and 1 white on top and 2 white on bottom)

Other than that, the GFCI works as it should and solved the electrical issues I was having in this room.
Just, you know, look at the thing before you put it in..

The photos show a matte, modern looking, screwless cover plate. What I received is a glossy cover plate with screws and rounded corners. I specifically chose this product because the cover plate would more closely match my other existing outlets.

1.0 out of 5 stars China and poor quality, do not buy

I thought I was buying the best to replace one that would not reset after buying new house.
Replace just fine and worked for 6 months, which at that time this one would not reset. I checked the wires by insulation resistance and each wire on the load side was over 15 meg ohm between each wire and ground. Which are good reading if you don’t understand the testing. I bought 2 of these devices in case other gfic May go bad but the new one was the one going bad. I replaced with like kind and it worked fine. I Searched My purchase to make this review and don’t recommend buying, the box shows it is made in China so that probably explains the poor quality and I will be searching to buy spare made in USA if that is possible.... cheap labor and poor quality
In dry conditions these should last a lifetime
Do not buy

4.0 out of 5 stars Line and Load are reversed
Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2022
Color: WhiteSize: 20 AmpStyle: ReceptacleVerified Purchase
The outlet itself looks well made, I like the Levitron as the copper wire can be inserted behind the tightening screw. You do not have to struggle with bending the wire around the screw as on some on the other brands, it is easier to slide a straight wire behind the screws. As another person mentioned, the back of the switch is marked LOAD and LINE. The Load side should be where the power leaves the device. The Line side is the power coming from the Electrical Panel or incoming source of power. However, on the Levitron for some reason, you need to connect the line from the electrical panel to the Load side of the switch for it to work properly. The connections are reversed from what the industry standard is. Other than that, the switch itself seems to be of good quality. Industry standard: Line = power in / Load= power out. With Levitron the Load = power in / Line= power out.

I have a couple of Leviton outlets in my house they all work great I needed an outlet for my shed because the old finally died on me after probably around 10 or 15 years it was a cheap one no brand named but after replacing it with another cheap brand I found out that it was a big mistake because I bought a gfci outlet from another company called akndor something like that and it did not work after accidentally dropping it after buying this outlet from Leviton it works as advertised and expected I needed a 20 amp because my dj equipment pushes 20 amps to the max heavy power

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent GFCI Socket

I was having puzzling issue with my new pond pump keeps tripping GFCI on the circuit while the old pump and all other electric devices on it would work fine. Then I tried the new pump on other circuits with and without other GFCI and it would work fine. Finally I replaced the old one this Leviton GFCI (same 20 AMP rating as the old) and to my delight the new pond pump works without any problems. And this one has a green led indicator to tell you that all is good.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice Features but Questionable Reliability
Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2020

I have these installed throughout the house per current electrical code by licensed electricians.

For seemingly no reason, these fail often. Randomly, not a certain location or time span, one will just die. Die, meaning no led, won't reset... goes from working perfectly fine to not working.

I've done the recommended test/reset cycle periodically and verified no arcing inside the boxes, no water, no loose wires, no issues with the electrical panel/breakers.

Fortunately they are easy to swap out but at the price they should last a long time, really a lifetime, with normal household use.

I'm sticking with the brand, at least for now, as I'd rather not have a bunch of mismatched outlets.

These are the same ones you can find in the store, but about $10 less here. Also, sometimes it's hard to find 20 amp gfci plugs, so if you order them, it will save you several trips to several stores trying to find them. They work great, install light any other gfci plug, and the little green light lets you know they are working. If you install them and can't figure out how to get them to work after connecting power, be sure to read the instructions. You have to plug something in and turn it on, before you connect or turn on the power, otherwise, your outlet will never get activated. I thought I had done something wrong until I read the instructions and figured it out.
