I love this show!!!

This series has turned out to be the funniest new show of the season, hands down.

It's absolutely worth checking out. It's hilarious and the entire cast has great chemistry with each other.

Each episode is divided into 4 mini stories that each only last a few minutes. But they all interrelated in some minor way. The magic of that set up is that an episode never gets old. If you aren't into the episode the entire plot changes every 5 minutes. And yet someone they still manage to make you feel close to the characters even in this limited exposure.

The characters do intermingle in the scenes. It's 1 family that is mixed and matched for each mini scene. It's not the same group in each scene each time.

Cleverly written, relatable characters.

My favorite TV show right now. Cleverly written, relatable characters.
I am very hopeful this show has a formula that will allow the characters to grow and change over time allowing for more development and more interesting stories than the typical sitcom that hits the reset after each episode. Reminds me of "thirty-something" without the premise that will end in ten years.
I like the mini stories that sometimes come together to tie a whole half hour together. I like how they don't always tell the stories in chronological order but may mix them up for more interesting story-telling. I like how they poke fun at everyone in the family...it's not always that the patriarch is the butt of the joke. I also like how it is usually the person's quirks or mistakes that are the joke, not the person.

Great show to binge on

Somehow I missed this new show when it first started to air. I came across it by accident. It's fresh and different, and one I had watched a random episode, I needed to catch up with what I had missed so far. Your usual family sitcom episode consists of several plots that weave in and out. This show is different: You still get your four plots, but they are all separate little stories - you see the same characters in every story, but centered around a different part of the family.

And it does not hurt that the writing is hilariously funny.

This is a show to binge watch, because it's so hard to wait a whole week (or longer) between shows.

Oh, my gosh, I watched for five minutes before I realized that that was NOT Tom Hanks playing that character. But Colin has certainly got his body English and facial expressions. So, so rare to laugh out loud at a sitcom. The great thing about this little series is that because it is divided into four vignettes in each episode, no one story line is dragged out insufferably as in SO many other sitcoms. Brolin and Weist are excellent as are all the other characters, including the children. We can hardly wait for each new episode. In fact, I've watched most of them twice.

A Wonderful Discovery
Verified purchase
Who'd a thunk that a short story format would actually be wonderful as this is? Has anyone ever actually done a short story scheme for t.v.? Perhaps it is the professional cast? Nah. Who says that Dianne Wiest continues to be one of America's most wonderful actresses? The rest of the cast is almost on her level. Season two begins in October I learn, but one can do an on-demand. A wonderful discovery in an otherwise dreary television "season."

Would buy the third season but it is in mid season broadcast and
I will NOT watch one show a week.
Can not buy the dvds either here in the US or I would do that.

I bought a season of iZombi without checking and was shocked
when, after watching several shows I was stuck at one show a week...never again.
Will wait for the dvds to come out if I must.

I love this show! It is my new guilty pleasure! The actors are wonderful and the characters and writing top notch. I sure do hope that this one is a keeper and makes it into season 2...and 3, 4, plus. (James Brolin is still a heart throb...and who knew that he had comedic chops?)

if you don't like one story just wait because the next segment will ...

I have given up on sitcoms since the Friends and Seinfield eara. Every one seemed to have the same old 2 or 3 theams just with different faces. Life in Pieces, though, is very different : refreshing and delving into areas not seen before in sitcoms. As a bonus, if you don't like one story just wait because the next segment will be totally different and featuring different characters. Very well acted and fast paced too. Ai
