I hope this can help others looking for bulbs!
Purchased these in the “warm white” 100 watt version. I hate the bright blue of the cooler led’s. I love dimming bulbs and have tabletop dimmer slide switches and rotary dimmers throughout the house. A couple of years ago I discovered the Philips “warm glow” dimmable bulbs which are good. The more you dim, the “warmer” the color/hue becomes. They’re pricey but come in a wide variety of styles and shapes. Spent way too much money on them. Have had a few failures but overall satisfied.
I like a bright-ass light in some spots. I have used the 60, 75 and 100 watt Philips bulbs. Here’s the rub. As you increase “wattage” you increase the size of the bulb. It appears to be a cooling issue of some sort. The base is larger and the whole bulb bulkier. I have a few overhead fixtures with glass covers/enclosures. I need bright light in these areas sometimes (shower, laundry, entryway). I can’t get anything above a 60 watt Philips to fit, as it’s a tight squeeze. Bummer, but nice warm yellow glow otherwise.
I hunted around for higher wattage standard size bulbs and stumbled across these. Thanks to another reviewer for verifying the size (and product description, which we all know can sometimes be less than accurate, especially when multiple versions of item are available).
These bulbs have a fabulous warm yellow light when at their brightest. As you dim, they become less warm and more cool. Like, at 50% and below, they def look like a regular “cool or daylight” led. Bummer. Also, The direct opposite of the Philips Warmglow. However, they fit in my fixtures because they are sized like a standard 60 w led.
SO, in the areas where I have a need for a very bright light more often than a dim one, these are perfect. Shower, laundry room. I like the option to dim but I need to see what I’m shaving and which stains to pretreat! For that advantage, I will use these. Trading aesthetics for functionality. These are perfectly fine dimmed if you don’t mind the blue-ish hue. Beautifully warm when at maximum brightness.
When I want a dim light for the bedside table or general ambience or something without size restrictions, I prefer the Philips, as it’s warm at lower brightness, but I can ramp it up when needed.
Yes, I’m OCD and am very “discriminating”, read: picky control freak, as verified by my frequently puzzled husband. I see a wider variety of colors and hues than the average Joe, at least according to old art teachers and the dudes at the paint store, constantly giving me the side eye. And yes, I think too hard about inconsequential crap like this. If you’re like me, then hope this helps!
Obviously I can’t speak to longevity, but coming in at a little under 3 bucks each, I’m well pleased thus far. Sure do with they held that warmth at lower brightness though! :)
