We drank the Tempt Unsweetened Vanilla Hamp milk for years. It was creamy and perfect in tea. Now it seems with this new formulation they are using way less hemp seeds and it's watery and doesn't lighten our tea and is pretty flavorless. We found it undrinkable. I hope they bring the old formula back but doubt they will (I have a feeling they sold their label to someone else who is cutting corners). The packaging was also cheapened so that it is hard to twist the cap off without the whole top ripping off. I am on the search for another brand. Didn't like Pacific, weird sweet taste, but do like Manitoba Harvest Unsweetened Vanilla which I'm hear ordering more. But, even though Manitoba is ok for now, it's not near as good as The Tempt was before this unfortunate change.
I've been a loyal customer for YEARS of this brand. I absolutely loved the creamy texture. I specifically chose this brand because all the other brands were very bland and non-creamy... they were like drinking watery barely flavored non-fat milk.
I used to drink it every day in my cereal. I say "used to" because this new formula is barely edible. It's barely tolerable. This product has become just the same as the other brands that I dislike.
This company took a great product and destroyed everything that was good about it.
Unless they brink back the old formula, they've lost a customer for life. Probably many customers judging from the slew of recent negative reviews on here.
If you get the green top, prepare to be disappointed. If you get the purple top, then you probably got lucky with some old stock that was sitting around waiting to be shipped out.
It's just so sad to see a company change it's formula in the ONLY way that actually differentiated their product from the rest of their competitors. Not only did they water down their product, they watered down their brand.
UPDATE: Companies reply to my questions regarding formula change.
“ New formula has less hull fibers and slightly more good Hemp oils (Omegas) so it will be smoother and that might be considered watery to some. The after taste or lingering mouth feel may be less with less fiber. But technically it is the same viscosity (thickness) I have checked is several times
March Batch used less Lecithin than Jan which would make the taste more mild. Taking excess bitterness out. I think we got that in line, but the vanilla color was darker than normal.
We worked with our vanilla supplier so the most recent May batch used the revised vanilla which will make it less brown also. Same vanilla flavors. ”
Wish I had read the previous reviews before reordering this product. The first time we ordered we received the purple packaged formula and it was excellent HOWEVER this time we received the new green packaged formula and what a disappointment. It is watery and the flavor is completely gone. We will not be reordering and unfortunately have 12 boxes of this stuff to get through.
I was really excited to get the unsweetened Hemp milk however the list of ingredients isn't 100% accurate and it contains Sunflower Lecithin. It is probably fine for most people, however if you are following the Blood Type Diet and are a type O you are not supposed to have anything with sunflower in it.
Here are the ingredients listed here that I looked over carefully: Hemp Nut Base (Filtered Water, Hemp Nut [Shelled Hemp Seed]), Natural Vanilla with other Natural Flavors, Tricalcium Phosphate, Carrageenan, Sea Salt, Vitamin A Palmitate, Vitamin D2, Riboflavin, Vitamin B12.
Here are the ACTUAL ingredients listed on the box: Hemp Nut Base (filtered water, hemp nut (shelled hemp seed)), vanilla extract, sunflower lecithin, sea salt, gellan gum, dipotassium phosphate, vitamin a palmitate, vitamin D2, riboflavin, vitiman B12.
Fairly nice tasting substitute for milk. I would prefer no vitamin supplementation, as I prefer to control my intake of vitamins A and D separately. One batch appeared to curdle a month or two prior to expiration, but this did not seem to affect the taste, nor did I feel sick if I used the "curdled" product. This may have just been separation and clumping of something in the product. I store this under refrigeration, although it is not listed as required before opening.
I buy this product regularly and often see it in bulk online for cheaper than local organic stores. It mixes great with my morning smoothies and is better than regular milk. Different flavors of milk affect smoothie mixes differently. Sometimes the original (no flavor) is better than vanilla.
We have a son who as an infant had a sensitivity to dairy and soy so we had to find an alternative to these for milk once we stopped using breast milk. Hemp milk - although pricey has been a great alternative. He enjoys the taste and had normal weight gain as he transitioned to solid food.
LOVE this hemp milk. I use it every day in my shake/smoothie. If you happen to be following weight watchers, it is way less points than other brands of unsweetened vanilla hemp milk. I don't know why, but it tastes great and i'm happy to save some points!
