4.0 out of 5 starsWorthy Upgrade, Too Bad It’s Not In White
Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2019
Purchased this product after accidentally purchasing the 2S. Amazon listed this product two days later, so I got a chance to compare and contrast the two.

Aesthetically the white 2S looked much better on my white desk, in fact it was a perfect match. The light grey version of the 3, leaves me wishing that they released a white version with silver accents instead (the silver portions is akin to the silver of MacBooks or other Apple devices, the light grey portion does not match Apple devices). But considering the button placement of the 2S, I’d rather deal with the undesirable color of the 3, than stress my thumb to use the forward and back buttons on the 2S.

Which leads to the ergonomics.

The 3 has significantly better placement for my larger than average hands (my hands require an L or XL glove, due to finger length, I’m 6’1” with basketball player hands). On the 2S it required pulling my thumb so far back, that it initially felt like my thumb was going to dislocate (maybe if I used the joint of my thumb to press it, it would’ve been easier, but the buttons being stacked on top of each other on the 2S made it a bit difficult to target the button with the joint of my large fingers; using the tip my thumb was easier). On the 3 that isn’t a problem. However, the 3 causes the horizontal scroll wheel to be so high, that it also causes my thumb to be in an awkward / uncomfortable position when trying to scroll horizontally. Fortunately, I don’t require scrolling horizontally that often, and after awhile maybe I’ll learn better hand placement. Probably would’ve been better to put those buttons almost directly where the thumb rests (only slightly above), instead of completely above the thumb (therefore the horizontal scroll wheel could’ve been lower). It’s usable, just know it might cause some initial discomfort for large hands / long fingers.

The vertical scroll wheel is great. Feels much better than the scroll wheel on the 2S, but it may take some fiddling with the Logitech Options program to get it to automatically switch to free scrolling based on your desired speed. The default setting switches it too easily, and the jump from ratcheted scrolling to free scrolling speed is significant. You might find yourself wanting to just scroll a few lines faster, and then suddenly you’re all the way at the bottom of a webpage.

Also, upon the release Youtubers began posting their reviews, and many of them indicated that the scroll wheel is silent. That is not actually the case. In comparison to the 2S, it’s relatively silent (significantly more silent), in free scrolling mode it’s actually silent, but in ratcheting mode it can be clearly heard. Personally I find that pleasant, I was disappointed hearing what I basically interpreted as the mouse not giving any auditory feedback, but it indeed can be heard it’s just much lower than the MX mice before, and the feel of it is much more pleasant.

Lastly, the software.

The Logitech Options program failed to install on a Mac. It just hangs on the first try. This happened when I initially installed the software for the 2S. I had to force quit the install, uninstall the program, and then reinstall it. Upon installing it the second time, the install completed fine. When I eventually received the 3, the program would not recognize the new mouse and I couldn’t get it to register as a new device. I also could not remove the previous 2S, to be able to install the 3. So I then had to uninstall the program again, and upon installing the newer version that they just released, the program hung on the first install process again. So, I had to uninstall it for a third time, and reinstall it again. When the program reinstalled it showed no devices and I was able to add the 3 as a new device, registering it correctly.

Perhaps this issue is because I am an Apple Developer, and am using a Developer Beta of macOS. Or maybe it’s just Logitech going through growing pains they’ll resolve later. But if you encounter an issue like me, know that it can be solved, it will just take patience.

The one thing I haven’t figured out yet is, when installing the custom profiles so that the mouse switches behavior based on the application you are using ... I am not able to install the profile for Photoshop. The Safari, Chrome, and other profiles installed without a problem, only Photoshop did not. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Photoshop, no dice. I dread the thought of attempting to uninstall and reinstall Logitech Options again. Maybe I’ll try that next month when enough time has passed, and will update this review accordingly.

Those quirks aside, I can honestly say that the 3 is a worthy upgrade. I’ll keep it until they release it in white or the 3s / 4, whichever comes first. But for now I’m as satisfied as I can be, and recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's got it's hooks in me
Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2019

***Update***
It's been a few months now and I've taken my MX Master 3 back out of the drawer.
I've been using it exclusively now, and don't remember the last time I wanted to switch back to the Performance MX.
In short, it's grown on me. Here's why:

• Very lightweight
• I'm now apparently hooked on having a horizontal scroll wheel
• OUTSTANDING battery life. I've only charged this because I get nervous about how eerily long it's been since the previous charge. I've easily gone over two months of daily usage without any charging.
• Bluetooth connectivity. That basically upgrades my laptop by one USB port. That's huge.
• I have a dual boot OS. This makes the device-pairing button very handy.

***Update End; Original review follows***
This is objectively a very good mouse.
However I am honestly disappointed with my MX Master 3.
The problem is that I owned a Logitech MX Revolution & currently own multiple Performance MX mice.
I absolutely love them, but they're are getting old and worn. So I decided to see what Logitech had to offer in their new models.
I tried to like it, but after a week of exclusive use, I put it in a drawer and have gone back to my Performance MX.

Pros:

-Bluetooth connection capability is great. Freeing up a USB port by not requiring a receiver is a big plus. Both the wireless receiver & bluetooth connectivity has been responsive and solid in my experience.
-The MX Master 3 is lighter than the Performance MX.
-The ridged texture on the thumb rest/button is an improvement. You feel like you have more control with this enhancement.

Cons:
-The MX Master 3 is shorter lengthwise compared to the Performance MX. The shorter length doesn't support the bottom of my palm very well, causing my wrist to droop. This is also made worse by the taller height of the MX Master 3.
-I had issues with the behavior of the scroll wheel on webpages. The free-spin worked fine, but the incremental setting seems coarse and abrupt compared to the Performance MX. The moment that I stopped using my MX Master 3 was when I got frustrated with the scrolling action while browsing the web.
I had to keep switching to free-spin to get back to parts of the webpage that the incremental scroll wouldn't stop on.*****(This turned out to be a software issue, not the mouse. See update at bottom for)

Overall, it really is a nice mouse, but apparently I've been spoiled.
Maybe Logitech should consider creating a model that uses the superior form of the Performane MX and add some of more beneficial modern tech (e.g. Bluetooth, lighter & longer-lasting battery)

Until then, I will stick with the Performance MX as long as I can.

1.0 out of 5 stars Overpriced and overrated
Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2020
Pattern Name: PC/MACStyle: Mx Master 3Color: GraphiteVerified Purchase
The Logitech MX Master 3 has received a lot of praise for its features, design and functionality. Having actually used it for several months, I can say that the value I've received does not match up to the price.

The SmartShift feature which automatically shifts the scroll wheel from a ratchet mechanism to a free-spinning mode isn't useful at all. In fact, it was annoying enough for me to disable it. I chose to manually shift between the modes with a button on top the device. Then the button stopped working and I was stuck with only one mode.

Aside from the free-spinning scroll wheel, the other features were mostly unused by me. The side scroll wheel is mostly useless and sometimes annoying when you accidentally touch it. I sometimes use the back button when browsing websites.

I had high hopes for this device, but was ultimately let down. I can't recommend the Logitech MX Master 3 and probably won't pick up another Logitech device.

Pros:
* The free-spinning scroll wheel is nice
* Rechargeable battery with long life
* Ergonomic design
* Wireless connectivity is good

Cons:
* Expensive
* SmartShift is a useless gimmick
* Sometimes malfunctions
* Manual scroll wheel mode shift button stopped working after only a few months of use

5.0 out of 5 stars Logitech's Most Popular Wireless Mouse - Best Productivity - Even Gaming!
Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2020

I've been using Logitech mice ever since the company started pretty much. After all those crappy non-gaming mice that Microsoft were putting out back in the 90's, somebody had to step up! But if your old school like me, then you remember Logitech's logo back in the day. Turns out the company rebranded themselves to "Logi", following fears, that their company was considered a dinosaur by young folk. The re-branding's intention, is to make themselves seem hip as ever.

How many remember the Logitech MX1000 wireless laser gaming mouse? Over 15-years ago Logitech came out with that mouse, captured my heart forever. Used it for 7-years until the lithium battery died for good. Then I bought my first "G" mouse, the G700, back when the mice still were remanescent of the MX1000, just with added features and performance. Then the mice went total futuristic and overkill, when the G502 and G9 series came out lol.

The Logitech MX Master 3 Advanced, is literally one of the best mice out there. It still amazes me to this day, just how many features that they can pack, into a small space. The weight feels about the same as the old MX1000 and G700, so if you've used those mice before, then you will be used to it. The Master series has actually been around for several years now, and this is the 3rd generation mouse.

Because of the weight, this mouse does not glide over my cloth Hcman mouse pad, as easily as my Razer Deathadder Elite wired gaming mouse. However, the mouse pad was designed to allow a mouse tracking sensor, to have 100% precision in every micro-inch of movement. Wireless mice will glide easier over a plastic based mouse pad, however, the mouse will probably be less precise if you use one. So stick with a micro-fiber cloth mouse pad if you can.

This is a 7-button mouse, and as expected, there are many functions. Left Click, Middle Click, Right Click, Vertical Scroll, Forward Click, Backward Click, Productivity Button, Horizontal Scroll. Scroll Mode button adjusts the scroll wheel mode, clicky or smooth. On the bottom of the mouse is the ON/OFF switch, as well as the Bluetooth mode selector, and of course, the DARK FIELD sensor, that can track on literally everything, including your ham sandwich.

I bought this, so I would have a quality wireless mouse, for my tablet computer. Because it can be programmed for more then just 1-device at a time, I can also use this with my notebook computer. Its important to note however, Logitech software only works on Windows or MAC, there is no software support for Android. This mouse works perfectly with an Android tablet however, using Android standard drivers and functionality, built into the OS.

As soon as I turned the mouse on, the #1 mode began flashing. I searched for Bluetooth devices on my tablet, and immediately the mouse was discovered, and paired quickly. Reception is excellent, the cursor moved almost as smoothly as my wired Razer Dethadder Elite gaming mouse. If your somebody who does photoshop, or Adobe Premiere for production and editing work, you will love this mouse, plenty of sensitivity to get the job done.

Browsing the internet performance is very good as well. Other then the standard vertical scroll wheel that all modern mice have these days, I found myself also enjoying, the horizontal scroll wheel, which allowed me to scroll the pages left/right. This makes browsing the internet on a tablet much easier, and quicker. If you've been using your touch screen before, this mouse is going to be quite the upgrade for you!

Gaming performance is very good for a mouse that isn't technically rated to be meant for gaming. Unless your a competitive gamer, trying to reach the top ranks in COD, Battlefied, Fortnite, PubG, you don't need no 144 hertz G9! These MX Master 3 mice have more precision then the MX1000 had, its plenty for gaming IMO, and I did not have any problems.

I also do photoshop and video editing, but not professionally, and I find this mouse very easy to use. The ergonomics of this mouse are top notch, best I've seen! I find this mouse very comfortable to use. The mouse clicks are fairly strong, which provides tactile feedback. And the forward and back buttons, are thankfully not mushy like previous models, also very tactile. If you don't like loud mice, you might want to stay away, tactile feedback, means there is gonna be click noise.

Logitech seems to only have this mouse in either Graphite, or Mid-Grey. It would be nice if they came out with an pure Black version, as well as a Blue, and premium Red version. But like I said, they are catering to production artists more with this mouse then gamers. Still, Logitech should offer more custom options, it would get them more sales IMO.

If you don't want your mouse to look like a space ship however, and your not a super competitive gamer, you can avoid the G502 and the G9, and just go with the MX Master 3. In my opinion, its a fully featured mouse, with excellent precise control from the Dark Field sensor, excellent customisability of buttons through the driver software, and excellent ergonomics. Very well made mouse, and I am going to have to give it a solid 5 out of 5 stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Comfortable, and great for editing!
Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2020
Pattern Name: PC/MACStyle: Mx Master 3Color: GraphiteVerified Purchase
I got an office job for the first time in 7 years, and the first purchase I made was the Apple Magic Mouse. It's a sleek design, and the touch control is nice, but it leads to a very sore hand at the end of the day.

This mouse is very comfortable, especially for someone with large hands. I do miss the touch control of the Magic Mouse, but this mouse makes up for it with comfort, build quality, and customizability. I do some video editing, and having all of the buttons is incredible. I set the left thumb button to Undo, the right thumb button to Blade, the bottom thumb button to Zoom with Scroll, and the small center button to Keyframe. Definitely speeds up the editing process to have access to some frequently used functions.

I use this on a plastic faux wood desk top with no mouse pad and have never had issues with tracking after 4+ weeks.

The scroll wheel unlocking seems gimmicky, but I actually like it. Line mode gives accurate scrolling, and free mode is nice to get to the bottom of a web page or document etc. Though when automatically switching from free mode to line mode while the wheel is turning it makes a slight buzzing sound. Might be annoying to some, or not suitable for all situations, but this automatic switching feature can be disabled to prevent that from happening.

PROS:
Very comfortable.
Incredibly customizable. Buttons can be changed per app.
The free scrolling is quite nice.
It feels very premium.
Very accurate.

CONS:
The scroll wheel makes a buzzing sound when switching from free scroll to line scroll while the wheel is turning.

I basically recommend this to everyone in all situations, and will likely buy another one.

3.0 out of 5 stars For Medium To Small Hands, Get the MX 2S!
Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2021
Pattern Name: PC/MACStyle: Mx Master 3Color: GraphiteVerified Purchase
After reading a multitude of reviews and a dozen or so YouTube videos, I decided to pull the plug on the new MX 3. The MX Keyboard is a staple in my Mac based studio where my private world revolves around graphic art, writing, and music composition, and my professional world around software engineering. I spend 90% of my day with my hands on some form of controller. I have enjoyed many Logitech devices over the years but this is my first foray into their higher end devices preferring Apple's magic trackpads in the past.

To begin with, all the reviews are spot on concerning the MX 3, it is an amazing device.. however, the ergonomics did not fit my Medium hands. As a pianist and guitarist my hands have an abnormal amount of reach compared to many but my index finger just could not fully reach, cover, or comfortably operate the MX3's main scrolling wheel. In short, the height of the palming area of the mouse is too high for me.

Yes, the MX3's all steel wheel and magnetic feedback are better than the 2S, but aside from the heftier weight, I preferred the position of the main scrolling wheel as well as all the buttons on the 2S including the placement and composition of the thumb scroll. I chose to disengage the ratcheting feedback on the 2S and personally love it.

Ergonomically the 2S is far better for my particular hands. The 2S is slightly shorter in height and slightly wider in width. My farthest right 2 fingers have more to rest and hold onto compared to the MX3, and strangely I also found the bottom left button and left buttons alongside the horizontal thumb scroll wheel were better placed for my needs. The MX3's approach of the left "fwd"/"bwd" buttons are a better concept but their placement was just not correct for me.

Although this review is as much about the MX2S as for the MX3, I had a hard time finding many reviews covering both. Hope this helps someone.

I also purchased the new Anywhere 3 and also love it.. in fact I may find that I actually prefer it, time will tell :D.

5.0 out of 5 stars A nice upgrade compared to the MX Master 2, and the ultimate Mac mouse!
Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2019

This review is comparing the Master 3 to the Master 2. I used the latter for the better part of a year and loved that mouse, but it was starting to get beat up and decided to ask for the 3 as a Christmas present. I haven't had a chance to put this mouse through its paces, but here are my initial impressions:

- Connectivity is as easy as it was with the 2, and I have no issues with intermittent disconnection on Bluetooth. Logi Options makes setup a breeze, walks you through the functions of the mouse if you haven't used one before, and is actually a useful piece of software. The Master 3 functions essentially as a wired mouse, and I doubt anyone but the most intense gamers playing twitch shooters would notice any meaningful delays in movement.

- Ergonomically, again nearly identical to the 2. For those that haven't used a MX Master mouse, it's extremely comfortable to use though does take a bit to get used to as it's a big "bulkier" than most mice. The feel is similar to holding a small, somewhat flattened baseball. I have no problem using this mouse for hours a day as a lot of my work is on the computer. There's no meaningful difference between the 2 and the 3, with the 3 just as comfortable as the 2. The 3 does seem to have a more rubberized texture on the body, which I personally like, but I anticipate that that will start to wear to some degree with heavy use.

- I LOVE the gesture button, and that's what made me interested in the Master series to begin with. I use a Mac, so the gesture button allows me to replicate the important functions of the trackpad - e.g., quickly switching between desktops, bringing up Expose and Mission Control, etc. - on the mouse. The 3 is no different than the 2 in this regard. The gesture button does feel a little "firmer," but that may be due to the fact that there's no wear on it at this point. If you're a Mac user and you're looking for something with a little more functionality than the Magic Mouse, this is the mouse for you.

- I haven't had a chance to test connectivity on multiple devices yet. Assuming this is the same as the 2, this is a very nice feature that generally worked well, though I had occasional issues with my 2 on macOS seemingly not recognizing the device when switching between devices. This was fixable by simply forgetting the mouse and reconnecting it, which really wasn't that inconvenient since Logi Options remembered my settings.

- The big difference between the 3 and the 2 is the mechanics of the scroll wheels. The scroll wheels on the 3 are MUCH superior, with a much quieter and smoother mechanism. This is a welcome change and is the primary difference that I've noticed between the two models thus far. The scroll wheel on the 2 would make a clearly audible clicking sound when used in "ratchet" mode, particularly when scrolled quickly, which doesn't happen with the 3.

- Another difference is that, on the 3, the forward and back buttons on the side of the mouse, just below the horizontal scroll wheel, are laid out in a way that actually makes sense. These buttons were far too close together on the 2 - literally on top of each other - making it difficult to discriminate between them. On the 3, there's a very small amount of space which makes it easier to figure out which button you're pushing, and they're oriented front/back rather than right on top of each other.. This is another welcome change. See the attached image to see the difference (the Master 3 is on the left, the Master 2 on the right).

If you currently have a perfectly functional Master 2, it probably isn't worth the cost to upgrade to 3 as the scroll wheel upgrade and changes layout of the forward/back buttons aren't, in my opinion, worth the $100 cost. However, if your old Master mouse is starting to kick the bucket or you just want to try the latest and greatest, the Master 3 is a very nice continuation of this great series of mice. Especially for Mac users, this is an excellent mouse as you can retain nearly all of the critical functionality of the trackpad with the generally easier use of a full mouse. Highly recommend!

1.0 out of 5 stars Does not connect reliably to Mac via bluetooth

It is amazing that this new release of the MX Master does not work reliably with Mac.

Each time it restarts the Mac does not connect automatically to it, and although the Mouse shows up in bluetooth preferences it still will not manually connect. The mouse needs to be removed from bluetooth and then manually reconnected.

I have followed all Logitech's advice and restarted bluetooth and removed the plist file!

I would have thought that Logitech could do a better job of something as basic as bluetooth connectivity. In fact the original MX Master which I still have is more reliable in connecting to bluetooth, whereas this one must have the prior connection deleted AND a new connection made before it works. The fact that Logitech has a special section on their website to report bluetooth connectivity problems perhaps tells you all that is needed about their confidence in their product. In 2020 bluetooth connectivity should not be difficult for anyone!!!

Don't buy if you have a Mac and want reliable connectivity.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not reliable and not a Linux mouse
Reviewed in the United States on August 26, 2020

I really, really wanted to like this mouse. It fits my hand like a glove, and I love the extra buttons, having just come from a very basic USB mouse. It had such a nice hand feel, and although the thumb button is pretty useless as it's very difficult to press without pushing the mouse all over the place, I can live without it, especially since I can't map that button as I'll describe below. Also, the battery life is quite good. I think I can generally get about 2 weeks or more on a full charge, using the mouse for probably 12 hours per day. The scroll wheels are fairly good, with a decent response, though I do see some odd jitter and lag from time to time, and the position of the thumb scroll wheel can be a bit awkward.

But, that is, unfortunately where my joy for this mouse ends. First, it's not a Linux mouse, despite the claim. Yes, after plugging it into a Linux system, the pointer moves around and the buttons work (this is not unique as the protocols for basic mouse functionality work in pretty much any modern Linux kernel, and you should be able to pretty much plug any mouse you find in and have it work at this level). But, the software designed to accompany the mouse and allow to to adjust the functionality, button mapping to applications, monitor the battery, etc. can not be installed on Linux, and you have to try to find some other 3rd party hacks as a surrogate. So, for example, I can not map the thumb button to anything, and am stuck with it in the default action, which is to swap between open applications like an Alt + Tab keyboard shortcut. But, if you don't care about knowing the battery level and mapping the buttons to your liking, I guess that's not a big deal?

Worse, the connectivity, whether it be though the WiFi or Bluetooth connection is awful. I am constantly having dropouts, lag, and inconsistent responsiveness that is beyond frustrating. This mouse is not at all, in any way, shape, or form usable for gaming. And, even for just general office work, it can be maddening to have it jumping around while you're trying to cut and paste data in a spreadsheet, or click on the correct link in a webpage. About 75% of the time it may work fine - even, arguably great. But, then, for some unknown reason, it will just start flaking out and be useless for the next few hours. I still have my 10 year old basic USB mouse connected just so that I can swap over to that when the mouse feels like flaking out.

This mouse is expensive, and as such, I would have expected a much, much better user experience and performance. It seems as though, many other users are seeing the same thing based on the reviews. So, hopefully Logitech will figure out what's going on and either release a patch to correct the bad behavior (along with a supported Linux application!), or send out a better unifying receiver or something to address the spotty connectivity.

In short, save your money and look for a more reliable and better built mouse, as this one is not nearly worth the cost. And, if you are running Linux and want a full native experience, don't believe the claim on the box that it's a Linux mouse - it's not.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great mouse but seems buggy with my iMac
Reviewed in the United States on December 13, 2020
Pattern Name: PC/MACStyle: Mx Master 3Color: GraphiteVerified Purchase
This Logitech MX Master 3 mouse is the latest iteration of several MC mice I've had over the past several years, for use with both Windows and Mac devices. I'm not a gamer and mostly use my PCs for running relatively standard office apps, specialized financial apps, managing my music and photo libraries, email, and surfing the Web. I recently purchased this mouse for use with my nearly "new" 2019 27" iMac, running Mac OS 11 ("Big Sur"). The mouse seems fine 80-90% of the time but periodically freezes up until I pick it up and fiddle with it. I've tried deleting and reinstalling the device, yet the issues quickly reappear. At least for now, I've put it away and reverted to my Apple "Magic Mouse," which doesn't display the same issues. Until I encounter a definite need I will probably stick with the Apple mouse because, as they say in the commercials, "It just works." I'll probably keep the MX Master 3 in reserve as a backup.
