No moving parts, means no issue with dust, nothing to get 'stuck'.
So we're still with micros-switches for the clicking, but at least there is no wheel.
That being said, not all touch mouse are created equally, and after trying the Logitech T620, this (the T400) is a godsend.
Touch interfaces are more about software support than the hardware, once the hardware is in place, the innovation comes from the software, and the T400 has a decent one (although not yet perfect).
The scrolling is OK (up<->down, left<->right).
But the other gestures are those that makes this mouse shine: the touch panel is split to the top 2/3 and the lower 1/3.
clicking and double touching (without actually clicking) are where the mouse becomes really useful.
While the Logitech doesn't let you do EVERYTHING with those buttons, the operation that are coded in are pretty useful.
So why 5 and not less? I would actually given it 4.5 if I could.
In customability it lacks the option to have any operation assigned to the predefined gestures.
Unlike the T620, it doesn't come with a travel bag.
The plastic, while having an excellent finish, is a bit thin on the front edge, I already have a small crack in the front (right above the touch button), but that's only because the mouse fell on the floor.
Comfortable (could be a bit larger, but still comfortable).
Wild Plum color :)
Touch is actually usable.
I bought one while I was still using Windows 7 to see whether that would work better for me instead of a Microsoft wheel mouse that I was fully satisfied with (except that its wireless USB tended to crash until I upgraded my BIOS).
Two great things: The tiny USB transceiver works great. I now have three devices on the one transceiver (giving me two spares) and it is amazing. The mouse is smaller and lighter and, after a little practice, much more pleasing.
I had trouble with the touch area. My left finger, which is normally resting on the mouse left button, would apparently put some side pressure on the central touch pad and the mouse would engage in sudden erratic behavior (sort of an automatic Ctrl-end that had what I was working on scroll like crazy).
I had my wife try the mouse, letting her know my trepidation. This gave her a wireless mouse to go with her favorite wireless keyboard, instead of the tethered mouse that she had to use. She loves the T400 and has no problem with it. And it works great for her on Windows 8 as well. The lightness of the mouse and the pleasant movement of the cursor are great for her. I'm not sure she uses the touchpad at all (and I never saw her use the wheel before) but she has no trouble with the mouse than doesn't also happen with non-touch mice.
I wanted that too so I ordered the second T400 after I'd upgraded to Windows 8. I am slowly training my hand to not let my finger come to rest too close or even on the touch area when it belongs safely over the left-click area. This still happens, usually after scrolling and I fail to rest my finger safely away from the touch area. I think it is a matter of training my 74-year-old hand and I fancy the mouse enough to keep at it.
I have found that the side-swiping is not all that reliable on Windows 8, but I do use the Start button feature easily, and scrolling mostly works. The tactile experience and feeling of control for a wheel mouse is a little better, I think. On the other hand, the very smooth scrolling that the Logitech software provides has compensating benefits with the T400.
I liked how the middle button has 2 ways to click it, front and back, to switch between start and desktop BUT when you program these buttons that way you lose the middle lick open link in new tap function, which I use a lot. And I tried programming the front to go to start screen and the back to function as right click but it doesn't work that way. It is or the switch between start and desktop function or the right click function. Stupid really. Oh well. I guess I'll just use it as my last mouse, which was getting pretty gross so it's not like a bought this mouse for nothing. I just wish the windows 8 functions would have been better integrated without losing other standard functions.
The scroll touchpad is nice and of course silent. But it seems like you have to apply a steady pressure while scrolling, which I need to get used to. I do love that flicking the touchpad to the right or left makes your browser go back or forward.
Another thing that kinda bugs me is that the clicks are not very silent. Also not terribly loud but this day and age you'd think they would make all mice silent already. I know they can. Also lifting the mouse up and putting it back down makes the battery compartment kinda move. It could close much better and snug. It is pretty loose.

Cons: A couple of times the left click was not reactive. After a couple of days, it started to work fine I don't know if it was a hardware of software issue.
size is not too big nor small.
i have been using scroll wheel all these years. so to use the scroll on this touch strip, it took few hours to get used to. the touch strip has great functionality. i can scroll in all directions and set multiple click functions. i have set front touch + click to show start screen. back touch + click to cycle through open apps/windows. there are couple more predefined options to select from.
however, the left and right click seems a bit tough to press. will get used to that in a day anyway.
suggestion : the touch strip could have been better with a rough surface than the existing smooth one.
no other issues.
Delivery from the supplier and the purchase experience was great and hassle free.
UPDATE 1 : After 2 days of use : the left click is still tough to press.. if two days are not enough to adjust with the left click, then I don't think I will ever feel comfortable with the it. might return it . this could have been a faulty piece. not sure though ..
UPDATE 2 : its been 1 week now. the left click is still the same. no change in that.. the only change is in me :-) i have got used to it. well, almost.
Good for : EVERYTHING except photoshop, illustrator and other softwares where you have to click hundreds of buttons often.
Thanks for the products , it reached as per schedule. When i got the mouse it was in prefect condition with proper packing. all seals were intact. nice product really useful for windows 8 user.
The only problem i faced was the AA batteries provided with the pack had drained out and i have to spend another ₹.50 bucks to buy new one to start using the mouse. So i request amazon to look in to the matter and do the needful.
Has become my work - warrior mouse.
Great range, precise mouse movements
Glass table tops & some glossy table tops are a problem.
The Touch scroll, sometimes has a lag, its inexplicable!
