The roaches are gone

So all we had to do was mix it with some icing sugar. 3 parts of borax, 1 part of sugar. So for years we've had to deal with the cockroaches that nest in the fissures of the concrete in our patio, it's kind of hard to explain how it's built, but the thing is sprinkled the mixture in all these corners and wholes, and I don't know if they died or what, but they're gone. At least they were until it rained the other day, we started seeing them again so we had to repeat the procedure. They would usually come out at night to eat the leftovers of our cats' food, but they really disappeared. Maybe it coincided with the summer being over, but since a couple of years ago they didn't even forgive us during winter, so it's a step forward.

We adopted a kitten from Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria and unfortunately we didn't realize that she had ringworm (fungal infection) until it spread through most of our home and became incredibly hard to combat. At this point, we've tried every wash, cream, wipe, lotion, shampoo you can imagine, for both humans and pets. We read that this can be used as a laundry additive to help fight any fungus spores that may have landed on our clothing, and while it's hard to say for sure that this has helped as we've taken so many other measures and products- the ringworm battle seems to be almost over so I would recommend giving this a shot if you're in a similar boat.

The product itself is, I am sure, totally fine - I mean, borax powder is borax powder. And it is my fault for not taking time to understand that 1 pound of borax powder is barely 2 (!) cups. This means that $10 bag of borax powder (at .62 per ounce) will barely be enough for 4 (!) loads of laundry. Not even that if you use closer to a full cup per laundry load.
Again it is my fault because I could have bought the other, familiar brand but it would have been a commitment (at that time) of at least 4 boxes for this online purchase, at .29 per ounce.
Again it is my fault because I could have risked in-store shopping during the pandemic but I was trying to be ‘safe’.

So when you picture what a pound of borax powder looks like (it is slightly less than 2 cups), calculate how far that will get you on laundry day - and at what cost per load.

It is too late for me but I am trying to be positive and consider it more of an expensive lesson in economics and less that I was an idiot.

I have used this as a cleaner, a laundry booster, and an insecticide and fungicide- it works better than anything else I have tried. It IS poison though so beware of that aspect. I have seen people asking if it's organic--you don't eat it, you use it like a household cleaner! If you are old enough to know the original 1950's television program of "20 Mule team " which was a western movie TV series like "Wagon Train" and much later "Gunsmoke" - you saw huge hills of this stuff regularly in various episodes. It comes from the desert areas and is dug up from the ground (like any mineral).

I have a difficult time with scented laundry soaps because of their chemical fake scents. My roommates however use the scented stuff and i realized it began to leave the washing machine with filmy buildup that cause the washer to smell terrible and cause the subsequent loads of laundry to stink. It was recommended to me to try borax since it's so good at breaking through scums and they were right. It works much better than any washing machine tablets/or cleaners or bleach. Run one large hot wash without clothes and include a large scoop of the powder. Keep adding a tablespoon or two to your laundry washes after that and you'll totally notice the odors go away. I always add a couple tablespoons to my largest loads of laundry to keep the odor and soap scum away and it has helped!

Before long, a gang of ants got around it and seemed enjoying it very much. Then they disappeared...guess all went back to their home and made their home sweeter:). Ce Borax est de bonne qualité, mais il est un peu trop cher comparativement à celui vendu en pharmacies ou dans les magasins de grande surface de ma région. En effet, celui vendu dans ces commerces est un peu moins cher pour une plus grande quantité du produit. Cependant, la différence de prix n'est pas extrême et on peu tout de même acheter celui-ci sans se ruiner, le prix est tout de même abordable. C'est un bon choix quand on ne peut pas se déplacer en magasin, à cause du Covid par exemple.

Pour ceux qui ne sont pas au courant, je désire aviser que le Borax est un produit naturel, mais tout de même toxique. Le Borax peut entraîner des nausées, des irritations cutanées, des essoufflements, des maux de tête et de graves lésions des organes en cas d'empoisonnement à très haute doses. En outre, à des doses plus faibles, le Borax peu être toxique pour la reproduction. Je déconseille donc fortement d'utiliser ce produit pour fabriquer de la glu (Slime) pour les enfants, ça peut être très dangereux pour leur santé.

Dans mon cas, j'ai acheté ce produit pour tanner des fourrures. Sachez que je suis une personne adulte responsable et que je vais prendre toutes les précautions nécessaires pour ma santé et pour la santé de mes proches et de mes animaux. Je ne laisserais jamais des enfants utiliser ce produit ou même être en contact avec celui-ci de manière quelconque.
