THE PHANTOM MAIZEL: NOT SO MARVELOUS
Season 2 of the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has to rank as the biggest disappointment since, well, Star Wars Phantom Menace.

The writing just isn't funny, the pacing is off, - and worst of all - the show is a disjointed mess. Remember when Larry David stopped writing for Seinfeld? Or when Aaron Sorkin too a break from The West Wing? You saw the characters, but they didn't sound quite the same - as if zombies had inhabited their bodies and were mouthing unfunny dialogue? Well, unfortunately it's a similar situation. Same characters, poor writing, outlandish circumstances.

You'll go on to just to make sure that episode one was some kind of aberration, but when you get half-way through episode two to the point when Mrs. Maisel's parents are dancing in Paris in front of Notre Dame to Louis Armstrong singing It's A Wonderful World....
....well - don't waste your time. It really doesn't get any better.

It only took two seasons, but Mrs. Maisel has jumped the shark.

One of the best shows out there!
Brilliant writing, big authentic emotions, gorgeous sets and costumes, great music (What, an XTC song as a closing credits song in Season One? Not period at all, but IT WORKED SO WELL). And the acting is flawless. The strange and hilarious patter between family members does so much to build character development and bring the laughs. The jokes are set up and well-timed, and the soft slow heartbreak is drawn out so we feel her pain as much as she does. I adore the gorgeous long shots with no cuts. A true gem of a show.
I discovered this show shortly after my own marriage failed spectacularly, and found myself in devastated tears so many times as the heroine's world fell apart. They way that she reinvented herself and stepped into her full power is so inspiring! This is a brilliant show with some of the best writing on television, an homage to the greats of early comedy, a love letter to the late 1950s. I hope that Season Two is as great as Season One, and that the show ends before it gets stale. Right now it is fresh, witty, emotional and brave.

Just not funny
I watched the entire first season waiting and waiting for the first chuckle. It never came to me. I greatly enjoyed the accurate depiction of life back in the 50's and 60's and applaud the producers for the realistic scenery and costuming. However I found the plot rather thin and acting to be pretty overdone. Ms. (PC) Maisel's humor was nothing like that of Joan Rivers, the comedienne she is purported to emulate. Joan could be crass and disgusting but she also was hilarious when doing it. All Maisel does is kvetch and kurse. Not funny. Every episode seemed to be her getting pissed-off about something then running up on stage to moan about it. If what she said had been insightful and inventive instead of self-pitying moaning, it might have been entertaining.

Then again, I find little of today's humor to be all that clever. Just standing on stage spewing naughty words eventually loses its shock value. But everybody's doing it so it must be great.

When, Amazon, when?
Or as the song says, "Quando, quando." Coming Soon just doesn't cut it. So I'm still giving "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" a five, because Season 1 was great. But I'm giving Amazon a 3, for not telling us when. (And I sure hope that the producers didn't go overboard trying to give the viewers too much of the retro, nostalgic look of summers in the Borscht Belt, etc.)

My rating for season 2 (not season 1, that season was 5 stars)
This is SO PAINFUL, nothing funny, nothing witty, just excruciating. The story is centering on plots that are not interesting and the few stage acts are pity rants of her life and broken marriage.

So good it's a guilty pleasure!!!
I stumbled on this 'original' quite by accident and oh wow!!! What a find!!! I couldn't stop watching and found myself a bit blue when the season 1 ended. I have been diligently checking to see when season 2 might be coming our way. I don't care how bad your day/week might've been, watch this show and I guarantee you will be happy and feeling empowered by the end of the episode. The character is someone you feel is your BFF and confidant, and you enevitably want MORE, MORE, MORE!!!! This is a series I hope might rival Frasier as in 12+ seasons with much beloved characters who feel like family. I'm hooked, I guarantee you will be too - and a happy addiction!

I am so excited for Season 2 . I get lost (in a good way) in this story. Charming. Engaging. Upbeat. Playful. And packed full of Zingers!

Very rarely does a scene feel natural, they're constantly trying to do a number.
God I just can't stand how CUTE the creators think this show is.. it sends me up the G.D. wall, with all the perfectly choreographed shots and dialogue rhythm they're constantly aiming to achieve. I swear, every scene feels like the actors are just trying to nail some complex routine for the camera, instead of focusing on a good acting performance.
