I was unsure about this movie at first but I liked the actors so I said what the hey let’s watch it! I love how Cuba Gooding Jr showed respect throughout the awful things they put him through. I love the determination on his part. And the chemistry between both men. Robert De Niro kept trying to break Carl down throughout the movie but was unsuccessful every time. In the end, I always get chill bumps in the courtroom, when Robert shows just how much respect he has for Carl, and that Carl earned from him. In the end, he was there to support Carl when needed the most.

Yes! This is another Cuba Gooding Jr. film featuring a radio in a key role. Of course, the movie "Radio" included a radio. This one does too! The radio in this film appears to be nuclear powered because it is never plugged in or charged yet it always operates. The radio has a key message carved into the side "ASNF" which (spoiler alert) means "a son never forgets". For more on that one, watch the film while it is on PRIME. Cuba Gooding's film "Daddy Day Camp" does not feature a radio in a prominent role and is only rated 3.1 on IMDB as a result. Lesson learned, stick with the Cuba Gooding Jr. films that include a radio as a device.

Men Of Honor is about how Robert De Niro mentored Cuba Gooding Jr to be a Navy diver. Right off the bat I didn’t like the storytelling. Gooding as a child for instance is talking to his father about how he was going to help him with farming and it comes off like a Sunday afternoon TV special it’s so cheesy. Likewise when Gooding first sees De Niro in his diving gear he looks like he saw Superman in real life. It’s just some bad acting initially and it returns in later parts of the movie as well whenever things get melodramatic. What the movie does capture is the latent racism within the Navy that Gooding faced. His story takes place after World War II when the armed forces were desegregated and yet his fellow sailors save one (Michael Rapaport), because they had to throw one in for the story, would have nothing to do with him because he was black. Gooding also portrays the determination of his character to overcome this and other barriers in his life.

Great movie. My wife saw it and convinced me to order it. We watched it together and all I can say is the acting is incredible, very affecting. I don’t get emotional about movies but I found this movie to be inspirational on several levels. Acting was over the top. Should have won several awards.

It's more like what was there not to love in this movie! Absolutely nothing. With complimentary performances from all the major cast members, I found nothing with which to berate this movie., and it does an excellent job of showing racial prejudice in the movie through the 1950's and early 1960's. I'm 74 years old, female, and white; I was around when forced segregation was still the norm, and I was a career officer in the Air Force beginning 1968. The military has come a long ways in just a few years, but it didn't happen overnight. Personally, I was rather avant garde for my time. I'm also lesbian and a convert to Progressive Islam.

This movie and others like it, that show how ignorant America was and continues to be about racism. Guess where I saw more racism, yes, the military (12 yrs). It is everywhere. The military is the last place racism should be because of the high value of integrity and honor that's taught. But, we're all imperfect humans, and even the military doesn't reflect the honor and integrity it claims to have.

My only wish is that it would put more emphasis on the fact it is based on a true story. I am amazed by the life this man lived. I thought the beginning was kind of slow​ but did a wonderful job showing the lifestyle this man grew up living in, and how the times were. Wish it would have had more world history in it at the time, such as the laws going into effect other than just at one point when it mentioned a president giving blacks the right to be in the military. Overall, I thought it was very good!

Aa a staunch Conservative (you'll all say I'm racist cause of that) , this movie brings me to tears multiple times within the first 15 minutes. To see the way black people lived back then, and the way they were treated, makes me sick to my stomach. That being said, this is a hell of a ride of a movie. Emotions will run wild throughout this whole film. Sadness, joy, anger, uncertainty....they cover it all. Excellent job by everybody involved in this movie. This is a must watch for any patriotic American.
