How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsRich, natural flavor of chocolate
Reviewed in the United States on February 22, 2020
UPDATE: I've been eating these nibs for a few weeks now and prefer them over Terrasoul (although I still like Terrasoul). I have to say that the 1-star reviews are from people who are simply uninformed about cacao nibs, thinking they are a healthy chocolate chip. Do your research and understand what you're buying before you downgrade a quality ingredient because you don't know about a product.

I've used Terrasoul raw cacao nibs for a few years in my smoothies, and I decided to try Nativas when I went to reorder after reading some of the reviews. I bought both and did my own taste test at home. So Terrasoul's nibs are fermented which is what makes a HUGE difference. The Nativas nibs are rich and chocolaty, and they have a good mouth feel. There are some larger chunks in the Nativas so it's less uniform. Terrasoul's have a little more consistency in size, but the Terrasoul nibs have a sour note from the fermenting (it's similar to espresso in that regard). I've only had one smoothie with the Nativas nibs so I'm not sure about the entire package, but there seemed to be fewer harder pieces in it than what I find in the Terrasoul nibs. The Terrasoul is priced better, but I think I'm leaning more to the Nativas brand now. Time will tell, but I am happy with both brands for my needs.

1.0 out of 5 starsFood item that can cause potential birth defects or reproductive harm??!!
Reviewed in the United States on May 3, 2018
I’m not sure why a food product would even contain a statement that states the product contains chemicals that can cause
potential birth defect or reproductive harm. If such chemical is present in a food item why is it being sold? Or why is it even being produced in a way that can cause such bodily harm. I’m not sure I understand it or how high the possibilities are but why would anyone risk their health on a so called healthy food item. We requested for a refund immediately!

So as I was pouring some nibs on my yogurt I saw an unusually BIG nib but didn’t think much about it until...I started to eat. Then in one bite instead of the usual “crunch” of the nibs, it was chewy...like rubber I thought...but I kept chewing...then I realized...I’m chewing on a piece of rubber😩😝😠. I’m glad I didn’t swallow it! I don’t know how often this happens but I won’t be getting these again!!!

Wanted to try these unsweetened dark chocolate nibs in place of chocolate sugar laden Hèrshey bars. Oh my the satisfied feeling surprised me. I tried two methods;

1. I heated up grass-fed cow milk with
1-1/2 tablespoons cacao nibs, 2 tsp
chia seeds and a big scoop of Pero
powder. I heated in microwave for
1 min.,15 sec. The drink was frothy
great!
2. With organic oatmeal I added heaping
tablespoon of caco nibs. dash of
Himalayan salt, and 10 whole raw
almonds, and poured on coconut milk.
Had blueberries/raspberries on the side
A swell breakfast indeed!

I love Navitas cacao nibs. I have no issues with shells/twigs of which some complain about. With organic products, we must accept that there will be natural "impurities" because organic products are not processed or barely processed. That is what we look for in organic products after all. They don't quite break up in a blender, but they are tiny and rock hard so that's to be expected. For those of you attempting to melt these, almost no existing cacao nibs that can melt. They are a hard bean, just like a coffee bean. Also, I wouldn't worry about the 'chemicals that cause reproductive harm' unless you are actually pregnent/planning on it! There are many foods that may cause reproductive interference (because of newly developing cells) but are safe for adults with developed cells and immune systems. Raw cacao has proven health benefits and I very much reccomend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love love love this product for smoothies and smoothies bowls!

Oh this is a must have if you love and make smoothies on a regular basis! It goes well with any smoothie where you want to taste a little chocolate, or chocolate with peanut butter without sugar sweeteners. It will make any smoothie chocolate 😃 it blends up nice in a blender, but it’s meant to leave a little chocolate crunch behind, like a very fine chocolate chip texture. But you only need a teaspoon, if you want a little more can add about a tablespoon. It’s also perfect for a unsweetened topping in a desert, or smoothie bowl. I love love love this product! Auto delivery with this one! Such a perfect addition! You will not regret this purchase if you love a little crunch texture to a smoothie or smoothie bowl. It’s a very fine ground up crunch though. If you like no texture at all in a smoothie this might not be for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good product

Pretty much everything I expected. Based on other reviews and some quick Googling, I toss a small handful into my oatmeal, and it really adds a nice crunch to it. I've also tried grounding some up to make hot "cocoa", and it tastes like hot cocoa without any sugar.

I wasn't expecting it to be anything like typical chocolate, and I'm not sure why so many people thought it was. The sour/vinegary smell/taste some people so dramatically complain about isn't that strong. It's unusual, and if you weren't expecting the unique smell, or expecting it to smell like milk chocolate, then you might be surprised. It's nutty, it's bitter, but you can taste the chocolate (not the highly sweetened kind but like 90+% dark chocolate).

As for the "shells" that some people complain about, there's some "skin" (not sure exactly what it's supposed to be called) that's still attached to a few of the nibs, but nothing crazy (see picture). It's similar the skin on pistachios and other nuts. I usually take a look at what I grab out of the bag and pick it out. If I missed one or two, which I've probably done already, it probably wouldn't be noticeable.

I really like the Navitas nibs. If you're not familiar with the product, don't expect these to be sweet or melty chocolate. They're like little bitter (in a good way) chocolate nuts. I never used to be into nibs but have been improving my eating habits and reading up on the health benefits of cacao. I really like adding them into oatmeal with fruit, especially cherries, as it adds a bit of chocolate nuttiness. It's also great added to granola, cereal, ice cream, yogurt, baked goods, etc.

I bought these to make homemade chocolate liqueur to give as Christmas gifts. I do NOT eat cocoa nibs on their own, so I can't speak to their flavor or texture to just eat. I followed several tips and roasted these in a low oven to "wake them up" and was not disappointed. They made delicious liqueur. There is nothing like a hot chocolate martini made with homemade chocolate liqueur! Cheers!

I know what to expect kind of I had ordered some non-roasted one a while back I just could never get the roasting thing right no matter how many videos I watched and no matter how many times I tried So this time I wanted ones that were already roasted. These are great they have that wonderful chocolate smell. For you who are looking for a way to feed your sweet craving without all the calories try a cocoa tea/coffee. You can eat these right out of the bag just know they are more like a nut than a piece of chocolate.
