Our Pure Vanilla Bean Paste is made by combining our famous Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract with real vanilla bean specks in a slightly viscous base. This means it has a rich vanilla flavor in a thick, molasses-like consistency.

What is the shelf life of Nielsen-Massey Pure Vanilla Bean Paste?

The shelf life is up to 3 years. The “Best By” date printed on the side of the bottle indicates its expiration.

Can I use vanilla bean paste instead of vanilla extract?

Yes. If a recipe calls for vanilla extract, you can substitute an equal quantity of vanilla paste. For example, 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste = 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.

It says “pure vanilla”, so I didn’t read all the ingredients. My fault. This item’s first ingredient is sugar. The worst part is this item is not eligible for return. I am out $135. I changed this rating to 5 stars. Amazon contacted me and made an exception and allowed me to return the item for a full refund. Thank you Amazon.

I think this is one of the best vanillas (Tahitian vanilla is amazing, too). Keep in mind this one is cut with sugar, but it can be subbed in for equal amounts of pure vanilla extract. I like the vanilla bean flecks that appear in the products I put it in. The price I was able to get on an Amazon deal saved me $25.00. When I first starting buying this vanilla in the large size a few years ago the price was $50.00 so a huge jump in the price of vanilla. Heard here was a blight or disease that destroyed the vanilla bean crops. But good grief, the price is crazy high, now.

I love this product and have ordered it a couple times. The first time I ordered it in 2013/2014, the price was $30 for the 32oz bottle. I thought it was expensive then! Now it is over $75! When I ordered it a couple months ago, it was about $60. Is there a vanilla shortage in the world? It is delicious, but I no longer use it in EVERYTHING that calls for vanilla (I use another high quality pure extract) because it is so expensive. Otherwise, it is a wonderful product that lasts a long time and makes everything taste 10x better. I make crepe cakes to order and there is just no comparison to using extract in the pastry cream after using this. I recommend it to everyone, if you can stomach the cost.

The best vanilla product for baking, hands down. I do a ton of baking, at least 4 times a week. I go through a TON of vanilla. Before this, I always used high quality extracts, and while they did the job, I could always taste that slight alcohol flavour, especially in things like frostings, where the only flavour was vanilla. Buying whole vanilla beans all the time is just time consuming and very very expensive. I first saw this in my local supermarket, for $17 for a tiny jar of it. Even though it had a high price, I bought it to try, and never looked back. It's easy to measure out, as it comes out as a thick syrup. The vanilla bean seeds leave beautiful specks throughout my cakes and frostings, and the favour that I get from this is incredible. It's a wonderful, slightly sweet vanilla taste without that bitter bite of alcohol. The specks also look impressive while giving for gifts. When I saw it for this price on amazon, I HAD to buy it. This big jug is perfect, and I'm very excited to have it for all my holiday baking!

I use this in place of vanilla extract because it doesn't have the strong alcohol flavor that can ruin vanilla flavored foods (and especially beverages). It's not what I'd consider a true vanilla bean paste, which consists of vanilla bean innards scraped into a thick gook. The texture is thick, like corn syrup, which makes it easier to measure than extract. It also tastes fresher than many extracts. Despite the thicker texture, it isn't concentrated; a teaspoon of this "paste" equals a teaspoon of extract. The vanilla itself is of very good quality. I'm not wild about the fact that it's sweetened, but it doesn't contain enough sugar to cause problems with most cooking and baking. The brown seed flecks might bother a few people, but most of us are grown up enough to deal with them. If you do want pristine white vanilla foods, you'll want another product--few of which taste as good as a nice dark syrup or extract. I use this in everything from coffee and ice cream to baked goods, and I've been thoroughly pleased with the results.

Being a Professional Pastry Chef, I use vanilla beans, vanilla paste and vanilla extract multiple times every single day. Nielsen-Massey is by far the best quality paste I have found thus far. I highly recommend using paste in replacement of vanilla extract- it is more expensive but the rich concentrated vanilla taste is well worth it! It completely upgrades any recipe!

I only use Neilsen-Massey vanillas nowadays, even though the price is high, the quality and flavor are so excellent it really changes how baked goods taste in the best possible way. I wait for them to be on sale, and then snag them up. I keep one 32oz vanill and a vanilla paste whenever possible.

It’s very misleading to call it “pure” vanilla bean paste. There’s more sugar in this product than there is vanilla. When I dip my finger in the bottle and look at my finger I can see a clear sugar syrup with black specks of vanilla. This product might only contain 5% to10% actual vanilla. I spent $180 on this product and I did not get what I paid for. This product is a lie and I hope Amazon removes it completely so no one else has to go through this.
