I had heard of Supernatural, but until this past week, I had not taken the time to explore it. I have to say that I am sad that I waited this long to check it out. I have fallen in love with this series and I can see why others have as well!
First off you have Dean and Sam(my), two brothers who have been through hell and back. When Sam was just 6 months old, his mother was killed by a demon who tried to take Sam and the rest of his family out as well. Thanks to their father, Dean (the oldest) and Sam made it out alive, but their mother burned with the house. Heartbroken, the father sets out for revenge while taking his sons with him.
When the series starts, you open up to Dean, fully grown, asking Sam, a college boy ready to graduate, to help him find their father who has been gone too long on a 'hunting trip'. Sam had long ago left the life of a hunter in hopes of normalcy, but he was never normal. Once again he is pulled back into the life of a Hunter as he and Dean try to find their dad while saving people along the way.
Each episodes opens to a different paranormal event, and each gets better than the last. While on their travels, the boys must learn to work together and get along, but that doesn't always happen. Each is hiding something from the other, whether its insecurity, jealousy, or a hidden and deep secret. Those hidden emotions and feelings only cause the boys to bump heads along their journey, but they still manage to function as a team. Blood truly is thicker than water in this series! The search continues for their dad, bringing with it trepidation as the boys grow closer, especially considering that their dad is the one sending them on missions while he looks for the killer of their mother.
Sam's insecurity and Deans feelings of hurt and betrayal from his brothers abandoning him and their father pushes the boys harder than they will ever know. In this particular episode, The Benders, Sam and Dean head to Minnesota, where a young boy witnesses a man disappear. While investigating, Sam is also abducted. Dean pretends to be a police officer in search of his brother, and teams up with Deputy Kathleen(Jessica Steen). Although she soon learns Dean's not who he claims to be; however, she allows him to continue investigating with her, as her own brother went missing in the same manner three years earlier. Despite this, she does not trust him, and handcuffs him to her car when they find the kidnappers' property. Kathleen is soon captured, and learns that the culprits are a human family who hunt and kill people for the fun of it. Dean manages to free himself and goes after her, but is also captured. However, this distracts the family long enough for Sam and Kathleen to break out from their cages, and the three of them subdue their captors. When Kathleen is later alone with the father, he taunts her about her brother's death, and she shoots him, planning to tell the police that he tried to escape.
