Very fun nostalgia trip. Not an evolution of the pokemon series
---List of Changes:
1. Graphics
Chibi 3d art style
Subjective. Personally didn't like it at first when Nintendo first revealed it, but when playing, got used to it and think it's better overall during isometric view. Close ups not so much.
During battle the character models look similar to Pokemon Sword and Shield
2. Move 8 different directions instead of 4.
Still can opt to 4 if you use D-pad instead of thumbstick.
Able to run automatically when tilt thumbstick all the way
3. Pokemon follow behind you in overworld
Once you reach Amity square, you have option to let a pokemon follow you as you traverse the overworld
No overwold wild pokemon (randomly appear in tall grass, caves), but in the Grand Underground they will show up if you want to catch specific pokemon
When you use repel, game will prompt you when you run out and ask you if you would like to use another
4. Location and name changes
The Underground is now the Grand Underground.
The Global Trade Station (GTS) is now Global Wonder Station (GWS).
Pal Park is Ramanas Park.
5. Grand Underground.
Able to decorate room with pokemon statues. If you put statues of similar type of pokemon, those types will most likely to appear in the grand underground
Able to access Grand Underground before 2nd gym. Good place to grind and capture pokemon for your core team
6. Character Customization.
Start off with selecting a gender, and 1 of 4 skin tones
The Metronome Style Shop is a new area where you can purchase new clothing instead of Veilstone Game Corner.
Game Corner is removed in this game to avoid Mature rating for gambling
7. Stickers on pokeballs.
The more you put on, the more confetiii pops out when throw out a pokemon from a pokeball
8. Super Contests
Basically a fashion show for pokemon. Get more points by playing a DDR/Guitar hero ryhmn type mini game where you press series of button prompts at the right time
9. The Union Room.
Basically a community hub area where you interact with Trainers locally and online in real time, and invite them to battle or trade
10. Poketch: count steps and use HMs
HMs.No more HM slaves. Bibarel is finally free.
Don’t need to pull up HM menu all the time, can just press A on interact-able object.
11. Poffins: make poffin (food) and feed pokemon. No longer more effective with other players
12. Amity square.
take up to 6 pokemon in an amusement/pokemon park. You walk around with your Pokémon and talk to them to check their moods.
13. Exp share.
Pokemon in your party level faster. Cannot be turned off. Less grinding and evolve pokemon faster to fill pokedex
14. Auto-Save. Can turn auto save on/off
15. Access to Pokémon PC anywhere
16. The pause screen tells you where to go next. In case you haven't played the game in a while
17. After you beat a Pokémon for the first time, next encounter will tell you if move is effective or super effective
18. Fairy type pokemon and moves are in the game. Before, some were just normal type pokemon
19. Pokemon have Hidden Abilities
20. Post game content.
Battle Zone
Resort Area
Rechallenge gym leaders, elite 4, Barry, and Cynthia with them having higher level pokemon and 6 pokemon. They also have better strategy, use better items, and use status effects often. If re-beat all gym leaders you get rare stickers for your pokeball

The entire stylistic choice is questionable in my opinion, but the issues with animations, lag, and resolution are too much for me to overlook in this one. Character animations, mostly during cutscenes, in this game are incredibly stale, inconsistent, and run at about 10fps in multiple parts throughout the game. The animations are clearly unfinished, and multiple animations quickly switch back to their default pose before moving to the normal idle pose.
The resolution and textures everywhere in the game are super inconsistent. Why am I seeing massive pixels on the edges of smooth geometry? How is it that that the water texture is super smooth and consistent when I can count the pixels on wild grass textures? In multiple places throughout the game, the textures don't even match the stylings of the environment. I understand that this game's style is supposed to be a callback to the original release, but it's very poorly executed and feels rushed. Pokemon D&P was stylized based on previous entries and the limitations of the console at the time. This type of thought was not put into this game, seeing as they couldn't make this game run at a consistent fps.
These were issues that were present in sword and shield, and I stuck with it hoping that Nintendo would ensure improvents were made in the next entry. This has not been the case.
A $60 GAME MADE FOR THE SWITCH SHOULD NOT BE LAGGING, END OF STORY. THE GAME LITERALLY FREEZES AND STUTTERS DURING BUSY ANIMATIONS.
I've never returned or resold a Pokemon game in my life, and this is going to be the first time. For kids, this is obviously like any other entry to them. For adult players, I would pass on this one until Nintendo learns how to optimize and work within the consoles limits. This is Nintendo's #1 highest money-making franchise. Why can't we get a polished game?
