Spicy World Citric Acid
Multiple uses around the home
Spicy World Citric Acid is 100% food grade, meaning its safe to use around the kitchen and home. It is naturally derived from Tapioca, not chemicals. Citric Acid is great for preserving food, but there are multiple uses for citric acid around your home. It is often used to descale hard water, create homemade cleaning detergents and dye yarn. Citric Acid can even be used to remove stains from your pool and to make Bath Bombs (fizzies).
DIY Bath Bombs are an excellent way to relax after a long day (or week!) of work. Just imagine, fizzy bubbles, essentials oils, and beneficial minerals - ahh what a treat for the senses! Citric acid is a central component of bath bombs. Spicy World's Citric Acid has a fine grain which will mix well with your other ingredients and has a quick reaction fizzing time so your bath bombs won't get soggy. You can also use citric acid to make Bath Bombs (fizzies) to keep your toilet bowl clean.
Chemical Free Cleaning
Many household cleaners contain toxic and damaging chemicals. Our naturally derived Citric acid is great for cleaning around the house. It's tough on grease, foamy and also antibacterial, making it a great for your homemade cleaning recipes. You can use it to remove grime and rust spots, clean stainless steel and brass, in laundry detergents, and to remove stains from clothing. It can also be used to descale a washing machine, taps, shower doors, toilets, and windows.
Effectively Removes Water Buildup
Limescale is the off-white, chalky deposit found in kettles, hot-water boilers and other surfaces where 'hard water' has evaporated. Limescale buildup means you are wasting electricity and it can ultimately reduce the service life of your appliances. Citric Acid had been proven to effectively inactivate water hardness, removing the calcium left behind from the water. Add a tablespoon of Citric Acid to each dishwasher cycle to remove those spots from your dishes and make your glasses sparkle.
Around the Kitchen
Spicy World Citric Acid is food grade, so its perfect for use around the kitchen. Citric acid naturally lowers the pH and doesn't smell like vinegar so it's great for use as a preservative. You can use Citric Acid for canning, jelly making and to help eliminate bacteria. Citric acid is also used to tenderize and cook, ripen homemade mozzarella cheese and in wine making or beer brewing. It's also a wonderful alternative to lemon juice in dry seasonings and lemonade. Add a teaspoon to a batch of candy for a super sour taste.

First, we use it in our dishwasher as a direct substitute for Lemi-Shine. It works just as well as Lemi-Shine to prevent spotting of dishes from hard water at 1/4 the cost. Use it the same quantity as Lemi-Shine.
Our second use is as a spray for ceramic tile in the shower to prevent hard water residue in the shower. For this use, we mix 2 TBSP of citric acid in 1 quart of plain white vinegar and spray lightly on tile and grout after showering. It works amazingly well to neutralize the hard water alkalinity and prevent build up of hard water residue. Only very infrequently now do I have to scrub grout lines with a stuff brush to remove hard water buildup on grout lines. Much less expensive than shower sprays you buy in the grocery store for the same purpose. But it is a little strong smelling (though not a bad smell) in case you have a sensitive nose. It smells rather like a mix of vinegar and vitamin C tablets. For this application it might work just as well diluted a little with some distilled water, but I've never tried it.
Our third use is for the same citric acid and vinegar mix described above - but for the periodic cleaning ceramic tile grout lines. Spray the solution generously on grout lines, let sit for several minutes, then scrub with a grout brush. It still isn't a super easy job, but it works very well to soften and remove hard water stains from grout. It is low cost and more effective than most grocery store cleaners. For a grout brush, I really like the "Groom Mini Shark Grout Cleaning Brush" also sold here on Amazon.com.
Unlike previous negative comments, the package of citric acid I received was completely clump free, easy flowing, and therefor easy to measure usage and use, but the negative ratings alerted me to be aware of similar problems.
If you have a need to use citric acid on a regular basis, I highly recommend this product. One need only go to You Tube or do a search query to find out the many uses for citric acid, and since many of the uses involve food, I would only buy a food grade product.

1. Inside both cups in dishwasher (approx 1T per cup). We have very hard water and this takes care of all spots and build up.
2. Clothes washing machine (approx 2T per load). Again, very hard water here and it ruins clothes fast. By adding this, it tends to soften the water and not allow the calcium to bind to the clothing. It can also be used if you ever get a smelly washing machine by adding approx 1/4 Cup to a Hot empty load, wait till it fills completely, them shut it off and let it set overnight, then allow it to complete the full cycle. I'm not sure how well this works with front loading machines.
3. I make homemade Alka-Stuff for sour stomach (not medical advice here, just what I do). 1T baking soda dissolved into 8-12oz water, add two asprin, wait till they dissolve, then add 1/2T citric acid and stir slightly. Perfect for sour stomach. Tastes the same too.

But FYI...make sure if you’re using for general purpose cleaning that you use enough water with it to make it liquid. Otherwise it turns into a solid that you CANNOT get out.
