It was slow-but i could forgive that. What I couldn't forgive was that the main character, Leah, spoke with the author of the book that specifically told her what to do in order to get out of her situation. But she went out to the woods and didn't do it. He even told her that her mind would play tricks on her-not to believe what she sees. Her only task to save her mom's life was to do her little ceremony in reverse and she just stopped and left. You want to just punch this Leah character in the face. At no point in time was she instructed to light what she perceived as an evil entity on fire anyway-i have no pity for this leah as you can tell.

this movie is horrible. they wasted a good actress (the mother, who should have just been the protagonist). In fact, each of the protagonists friends were more interesting that the main protagonist....they were set up and then completely wasted..indeed, everyone in the movie was smarter, more engaging and charismatic that the main protagonist here (they could have played this for comedy and made a decent movie of it now that I think of it).

Once she put herself in a bad spot (unfathomable - her friend said she deserves her fate for doing it...and I agree with him)....she then, seemingly contrite, asks a "professor" how to solve the problem (like when you ask the priest how toi kill the vampire and save yourself....and the professor was interesting...would have rather had a movie about him and the mother and the friends w/o this main protagonist)...which she completely forgets and ignores for the rest of the movie literally 90 seconds later....and while a couple of the jump scares were ok near the end...the only way I got to the end was by fast forwarding through the first idiotic, "moody" A24-inspired drivel of the first 50 minutes (btw - I like A24 movies...they're our new Hammer movies).....

the only reason I gave this 2 stars instead of 1 is that this is probably how I (or anyone) would behave in real life....not listening to anyone, running around scared and not doing anything right....so maybe its a really good documentary of sorts...but an engaging movie it is not.

Someone might be Listening . Creepy as Hell , Gets under your skin and Stays there !! Revenge & Regret play out in this Darkly Twisted Film about the consequences of SINGLE foray with the Occult . The overbearing sense of Dred thickens the air when the act becomes oh so REAL !!! Be careful about opening GATES , you may not get to close them !! Easily one of the Best Horror films I've seen this Year , regardless of Budget !!! Pyewacket can take Many forms ... OMG ... CAN IT ... A Must SEE !!!!

This one starts off with nothing and ends up with little improvement. The daughter is unhappy with mom and them moving to a house in the woods away from her friends so she wants her dead enough to conjure something to make it happen. The first hour is nothing but boring. When she does her spell we get to see little that could pass as horror. Her girlfriend is intrigued and wants to spend trhe night to see how the conjuring is going but nothing happens. The next morning she’s found out in the car scared to death to what apparently happened to her during the evening but the viewer never gets to see or even know what occurred. There is no “unholy occult nightmare” unless you include the plot and acting. I pulled this one from a 10-best list for IFC and would have to agree with another reviewer that to be on it must have involved some payment. Two stars only because we stayed with it until the credits rolled but we should have hit the back button within the first half hour and gone with one star.

I'm a huge horror movie fan and a 5th-year psychology student. This movie was very mediocre all the way around, and while it wasn't the worst horror movie I have seen, it was far from being best also. I started out very intrigued because it was from IFC Midnight which usually puts out a lot of good independent horror movies, and because the trailer made it look much more intense of a movie than it truly is. In fact, this is one of those movies that if you watch the trailer for it, you've pretty much already seen the movie - and all of the best parts of it! It's not terrible, so if you're bored and looking for a horror movie, there are worse things you could choose but don't expect it to be as good as the trailer looks.

I swear, those “best horror movies ever” lists shared on social media are paid to post these movies. I only gave it 2 stars because once it finally got past all the boring parts, about 3/4 of the way through, there were a few stomach clenching moments. But then it ends and you’re like WTH just happened? No, I understand what happened, but did I really just waste a couple hours of my life watching this crap?

This is a real horror movie. Its scary but its not trying to hard like a lot of horror movies today. Everything about the Pyewacket itself makes my skin crawl. Definitely give it a watch if you're in the mood to be creeped out.

Pyewacket was slow for the first hour and then moved along well for the last 30 minutes. It bored me at first, and then I got caught up in it, and at the end I was wishing for more closure or understanding of what and why and got me wondering how the police were going to handle it.
I'm not a fan of horror movies, they seem to make no sense. Whereas, a sci fi or monster movie will make sense if we just accept one unrealistic premise.
So, my 3 star rating would be higher if I was a fan of horror movies. And for people that enjoy getting scared they may enjoy this movie.
