He hasn’t had any problems using it. The first thing I did when I received them was put the batteries in, the second thing I did was to lock it. I haven’t played with any of the features, and I haven’t made any changes to the settings.
He’s dropped it more than once and it’s fine. They are shaped to fit the hand comfortably. There are ridges to help it from slipping out of your hand. The push to talk button is rubberized nonslip. Everything is quality. These are not just toys; they don’t look act or feel like toys.

I love these. I read someone’s review that claimed the batteries only lasted two hours. I don’t know what kind of batteries she used. Ten days ago I received them and I put new batteries in. The walkie-talkies have been on 10 days. I bought them as a toy for my six-year-old son, but we use them every day. He likes it when I talk to him on the radio to tell him dinner is ready, or whatever. They work for what most kids will use them for. Go to the park.. One kid is upstairs, the other in the backyard. If you push the range, they fall off at around 1/2 mile. There aren't too many circumstances I've witnessed where my kids would be that far apart and need a walkie, so takes this with a grain of salt. They work well for what most kids will use them for.
They're lightweight, though they pull my kid's pants down when they run around with them clipped to their pants.
They have enough settings to make use enjoyable:
- change ring tone
- auto squelch
- VOX (w/ sensitivity settings)
- easy vol +/- buttons
- lock
- channel scan
--- DISLIKES ---
-The clip on the back doesn't have a button, so little kids (age 5-6) cant clip/unclip easily.
-They use 6 AA batteries! As a parent, I have sworn off all kids products that take AAs, because I'm constantly loosing the rechargeable AA's. A built in replaceable rechargeable would be much better.
- Range drops off at about 1/2 mile of obstructed view.
- Overall speaker or radio signal quality is slightly lower, which makes it harder to understand, when compared to my Midland adult set. Kids dont notice, but I do. Overall more interference compared as well, but its not terrible. I'm comparing a $20 set to a $50 set.

The kids love it. I had to buy an extra set 8 pack of rechargeable ($15), which makes we just say get the Midlands $50 set instead. The $15 difference is marginal so just get the one that is better.. same size/weight, and you wont lose the friggin batteries. Also, Midlands comes with a dock, and has 30 mile range (more like 3-4 miles of obstructed view).. I live in a hilly town, so range goes WAAAY down. The Midland walkie also has a clip w/ push button, so kids can attach to their belt/pocket much easier. Midland also has weather radio..
