As a matter of background information, I've been a long time user of various Roku boxes (two Ultra models, and two older units). As an aside, recently, I also signed up for the Paramount + streaming service (since I used to watch CBS All-Access, which was subsequently renamed to Paramount +).
Much to my dismay, however, I discovered that the Paramount + video qualities were horrible (on all of my Roku boxes) with colors being mostly washed out, and even some videos from that streaming service came across as "sepia" in tone. I couldn't understand it, but it was obvious that it was a Paramount + issue - not a Roku issue, since every other video streaming service came through superbly on all 4 of my Roku boxes.
Then I read a comment by a person on the Roku support page, where he found that the Roku Streaming Stick did the trick and that his Paramount + video reproduction improved by 100%. So I took a chance and purchased the best streaming stick that Roku offered - their 2021 version of the Streaming Stick 4K, which I ordered from Amazon.
When it arrived - which was like the next day if you order it off of Amazon - it was a simple scenario, just plugging it in and that's it. And then the testing began. When I selected the Paramount + streaming network (since that was my initial focus), the resultant video qualities were substantially improved, with a night and day difference - now with rich colors, better video qualities overall and great audio. I thought, "How can this stick be such a substantial improvement, in particular with the Paramount + network, over the other Roku boxes? All I can gather is that the stick must use an algorithm that deciphers video issues like those presented from the Paramount + network in a much better manner. In general, all the different types of Roku boxes do quite well with all the other streaming services - but Paramount is a different animal.
The only minor negative thing I can think of it - with regard to the stick, if you will - is that the remote does not use external (replaceable) batteries. Instead, it uses an internally rechargeable battery - which, when you think of it - could be an inconvenience because when you plug it in via USB cord, it takes that remote out of action. All other Roku boxes have remotes that use AA batteries - easily changed out in seconds.
As a side note, I have NEVER had any mechanical or electrical issues with any of my Roku boxes. They've always performed admirably, and this streaming stick is no different, so I was found it odd to read some reviews talking about reliability?
So, I enthusiastically recommend getting the 2021 streaming stick (4K), and I plan on purchasing 3 more for my other TV sets. Need I say more!
Yes it streams well, but to navigate around it is slow, you'll have to jump between apps to find your content, the remote control lacks basic options like, settings for example, which can be reached only from the home screen..
It is a sort of cheap option, I get that, but its lack of imagination and user friendliness are not acceptable in this world, not friendly enough and your out the door
