5.0 out of 5 starsLegit card. Legit fast.
Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2019
This review is specifically for the item SanDisk Extreme 128GB microSD UHS-I Card with Adapter - 160MB/s with SanDisk MobileMate USB 3.0 microSD Card Reader. My card was shipped from and sold by Amazon.com. The top review for this card would have you believe the product I received, based on physical appearance, is fake. The speed tests and H2testw program appear to indicate it achieves the advertised speeds and has the correct capacity using the bundled USB 3.0 card reader in a USB 3.0 port on my desktop Windows 10 PC.
If this card is somehow "fake" it is quite impressive. I'm sure there are some fakes out there, but if you do decide to buy this card it might be worth performing your own tests before deeming it fake based off the looks alone (assuming it's not an incredibly obvious fake).
April 18, 2020 (13 month update): card still works great. No complaints, I'm very happy with it.

1.0 out of 5 starsEither fake or defective
Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2018
First red flag was when I looked underneath the card. Instead of being solid black like every other SD card I've seen, it looked like a green circuit board with a strange black square on it.

Second red flag was the MUCH lower than advertised read/write speeds (only 50-55 write with mid 80s read).

Third red flag was when I tried to copy data from my old sd card on to this one. I was able to get about 21.5 GB of data on to it until it unmounted itself from my computer. I then physically removed the card and inserted it back in the computer. Windows recommended that I repair the drive, so I did. After that, I go and try to copy the data again and it unmounted itself, just like before. I tried the same thing by repairing the drive, except this time, Windows informs me that it could not be repaired! Seriously??

So much for trying to get a good black Friday deal...

2.0 out of 5 stars Advertised read speed is false!
Reviewed in the United States on October 14, 2018

SanDisk advertises this as the fastest read UHS-I in the market (160mb)! Multiple tests on the 128GB don't confirm this claim. I tested the card on my Surface pro (2017), Surface GO and XPS 13 and got only 88mb read speed and 84 write speed at best!! My Samsung Evo select 128GB & 256GB have higher read and write speed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Lies about speed
Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2018

Like many of the other reviewers pointed out, this card is fraudulent. "U3" and "A2" my ass! The read/write speeds are nowhere near the advertised values. I'm getting 74/66 MB/s which is worse than my Samsung 128GB U1 microSD. Non-sequential writes are awful at 6/2 MB/s. $30 might seem like a good deal for this card but it's not. Don't be fooled!

3.0 out of 5 stars Fast enough to use as extra storage on Surface Pro 6 but not as fast as expected
Reviewed in the United States on December 1, 2018
Style: Card OnlyCapacity: 128GBVerified Purchase
The built-in SSD disk space is extremely expensive on the Surface Pro 6, so getting the smallest Surface Pro 6 and using a microSD card to complement the built-in storage is an attractive option in my opinion.
The good thing is that this card performs well when inserted in the microSD card reader of the Surface Pro 6 (about 80 MB/s sequential read, 80 MB/s sequential write) although it does not reach the advertised speed (which is "up to" 160 MB/s sequential read, 90 MB/s sequential write).
As I believe the UHS-1 standard is limited to 104 MB/s anyway I am not sure if it is possible to find microSD cards that would perform faster.
In short a good choice for the Surface Pro 6 even if possibly not the best choice.

Read/write speeds were 70/50 mp/s on my S9. Much slower than the max of 160/90. Opted for the Extreme Plus instead, more expensive but read/write speeds are 100+/80

TinyZombie
2.0 out of 5 stars Dirty little secret about A2 cards
Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2019
Style: Card OnlyCapacity: 128GBVerified Purchase
When I first reviewed this card I assumed I had received a fake or defective card, because the performance it delivered was SLOWER than my older SanDisk A1 rated micro SD cards. However, that doesn't seem to be the case...

Further research in collaboration with others seems to have unlocked a dirty little secret about these new A2 rated cards. They are actually SLOWER than A1 cards unless you have an A2 certified device, and there are almost none of those available at this time.

SanDisk won't openly admit this when contacted about the less than stellar performance, but they keep pushing you to buy their specific Mobilemate USB 3.0 card reader, which may be the only (or at least one of the very few) A2 certified devices available at the time of this review.

Now to be clear I wasn't expecting the maximum advertised performance. Even though my A1 rated SanDisk cards all met or exceeded their advertised specs, I was pretty sure that A2 cards would require newer hardware to achieve their lofty numbers, but I was expecting them to exceed the performance of the much less expensive A1 cards. They do not! While they are faster than your typical Class-10 card, they are slower than A1 rated cards, and that's something you won't find in any documentation.

The only test that was faster on this A2 card was sequential write, and since I was comparing an "Extreme" to an "Ultra" card, that was to be expected. In every other performance category the A1 card was faster. Multiple tests were run on multiple devices, and while the numbers varied between devices, the results were consistent. Sequential read and both read and write IOPS were 10-15% faster on the A1 card, and IOPS is the main reason you'd even want an A2 card!

If you are upgrading from a regular Class-10 card this will be much faster, but so will a less expensive A1 card, and you probably won't notice the difference, so why spend more?

If your intended device isn't "A2" certified, buyer beware.

1.0 out of 5 stars Corrupted after 12GB of data written :(
Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2019
Style: Card OnlyCapacity: 64GBVerified Purchase
Unfortunately as some other reviewers have noted, this is most likely a fake :(
I bought this for a dashcam.
Even though it costs more than for example the Ultra, the dependability would be worth it...
That is, IF this truly were a Sandisk Extreme.
After inserting the card into the dashcam, and formatting it, everything worked fine for 2 days. Then on the 3rd, suddenly during a drive, an error message popped up stating memory card corrupt!
The dashcam would no longer record, and even powering it down and powering up again would not make it continue, the error message kept popping up.
I’ve not had this error pop up before with 3 other cards I’ve used (from various brands).
Formatting the card again allowed the dashcam to operate again, but most likely it will fail again.
Guess I’ll need to go to a brick&mortar for the genuine stuff.

1.0 out of 5 stars failed on 3rd use/mount
Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2019
Style: Card OnlyCapacity: Card ReaderVerified Purchase
I like their ssd/usb drives, but this failed on 3rd use/mount.

it would not read any of the 6 or so microsd I had on hand.

at first I thought it was my computer port, tried several.
then thought it was the computer/os, tried several in the house.

brought out an older 5-in1 it worked fine in all locations and microsd.

I can not recommend this reader and have bought another about the same size.
Since I experienced this unexpected failure from this sandisk product, I've been using the following to test this new reader/adapter/microsd I've been putting it through some constant read/writes for the last hour and this off brand has been working great.
btw the test I'm using is: sudo e2fsck -cc -C 0 /dev/sdd1
via usb 3.0 port on my desktop.
