I rate this movie 5 boxes of tissues.

So few people in this world could bring so much joy to so many others. For her to leave this world made it a little less happy.
I remember where I was when I first heard Selena on the radio. Her voice made me want to know of her more and listen to her more. I also remember where I was when I heard she was murdered. I hope her killer never gets out of prison.
Lopez did an excellent job portraying such a tender soul. Everytime I see this movie, I make sure a box of tissues is handy. You may want to grab a box for yourself.

Best version to own so far!

My little sister is a huge HUGE fan of Selena haha so for her birthday I decided to get her the 10th anniversary edition of the film. I read that compared to the first dvd release sometime in the late 90's/early 2000's, this presentation was supposed to be better. Well I've seen the film with this version and I can whole heartedly agree since the image looks much better as well as sounds better too. Colors do seem weird at times I admit... but most of the time they pop much more than the 1st dvds release which is great! It's no Blu-ray/ 4k quality type good but it's the best version of the film so far. I especially loved the addition of some deleted scenes as well, they really added much more and made the film feel better. Hears hoping to a potential re-release in blu ray/4k as I'm sure it'll knock this already good looking transfer out of the park.

Edit: I bought the blu ray a while back and in almost every aspect, its a clear improvement to both DVD versions. The sound is noticeably better as it sounds crystal clear and perfect while the picture has a gorgeous uptick in sharpness/color that makes this film look like it was made yesterday with how great it looks! I believe there were a few artifacts here and there at moments but all of the picture noise on screen has been completely taken away. There's definitely room for improvement, such as better sharpness and more accurate skin coloring if there would ever be a 4k release which I hope can come someday!

Great movie to celebrate Selena's life!

Purchased for the 24th anniversary of her death on March. 31, 2019.
Every year since her death I've watched anything Selena inspired on the anniversary, birthday and just randomly throughout the year!
This movie depicts just a snippet of her life that was cut short for no reason!
May she rest in peace and will always be a Selena Quintanilla fan!

Selena Quintanilla-Pérez AKA: Selena was the Queen of Tejano music and to us a true pop artist and
a Tejano Madonna. Selena was a iconic artist of the 90's. All Selena fans will fall in love with this phenomenal biographical movie which chronicles the life of Selena growing up and becoming a major recording artist. Jennifer Lopez and Rebecca Lee Meza did beautiful starring as Selena. The entire cast did an amazingly great job in honoring Selena. The film was inspiring, moving, musically-epic, romantic, and heart-breaking/sad. Felt like watching the real Selena on stage. Selena made history and this film made history. This film is the best ever made in honor of Selena. Selena's music is beyond heard all around the world and she'll never be forgotten. This movie is must own and watch. Amamos a Selena. Cualquier cosa por Selena.

I didn't know much about Selena when she was alive. When this movie came out, I understood who she was and what she meant to her fans. No matter what I am doing, when this movie comes on TV, I get sucked in. In my opinion, this is Jennifer Lopez's best performance, to date. She nailed Selena's mannerisms and dance moves. Because of this movie, I am a Selena fan. Beautiful tribute to a beautiful person.

I remember the night my family and I were sitting outside, BBQing, when we heard over the radio about Selena. My mom was even invited by a friend to join her for Selena's concert in Houston but she turned it down due to other things she had to take care of. You never know when an artist will be taken from the world. The loss of such a talented young soul really hit hard for those who knew her at the time. She was barely crossing over too. I even remember watching where they were trying to find people to play her role for both her as a child and as grown Selena. There were several who looked really close and could sing like her but in the end they chose to go with an already known celebrity.

I feel Jennifer Lopez did a decent job. There are no particular celebrities I care for or follow as a fan. She can sing, dance and portray Selena's life decently. With that being said I love this movie and watch it maybe once to twice a year. I had to add it to my collection since it was a part of something that happened during my life time, and again I remember the sad news over the radio. My mother adored her music and would play it quiet often in our house, which I have carried on to do in mine.

Movie 5/5
If you haven't seen this JLO plays Selena and does a pretty good job at depicting her life to stardom. This movie is a musical with heart and a must watch for any Selena fan
Video 4.5/5
For its age it looks really good but don't expect it to look like it was filmed yesterday. It's shot on film and grain was rendered faithfully. There's no signs of DNR or edge enhancement. Blacks are deep and the warm colors breathe life into this movie that the dvd never could. I watched this upscaled to 4k on my 77" Sony A9G and UBP X800. I had no playback issues. This is easily the best this movie has looked.
Audio 5/5
This is also a winner for what it is. This is a mostly dialogue driven movie with the standout moments being the concerts. If you have a good home theater you'll be especially impressed during these scenes. Otherwise dialogue was clear and also no playback issues.
Overall 4.5/5
If better/more extras were included this would be a no brainer 5/5, but the extras included are decent at least even though they're not in hd. Overall a must buy.

I've always enjoyed Selena's music, but I wanted to finally see this movie, which I thought did a good job of showing her talent, her real life and her story. But honestly, I don't know much about her beyond her music, so I can't verify any of it. Lopez does a good job and so do most of the other actors. The real draw here is the music of Selena augmented by very close facsimiles of the performances and at the end, you see the real Selena doing much of what you just watched. It's not going to change your life, but it's a decent biopic.
