The mix comes in a case of six boxes, each box making eight scones.
To mix up a batch you need 1-1/2 sticks of butter and 3/4 cups of cold water.
Simple enough. What you end up with is an almost shortbread type of batter, where the less you handle it the better it will be. The batter mixed up nicely and I added mini chocolate chips and pecans to one batch, and dried cranberries and pecans to another. While the mix itself is not at all sweet, the addition of the fruit actually gave it a wonderful 'breakfast' sweetness, not to much, just right with a cup of coffee and some fresh fruit. The chocolate chip batch was a hit with the family and they disappeared quickly. I also added a sugar glaze (powdered sugar and water mix) and drizzled that over the tops while they where hot from the oven. That little bit of extra sweetness helped to liven up the scones just enough to make them pleasently sweet but not so much that it was over powering the scone itself. They bake up light but dense enough to satisfy in their smaller 'scone' size.
I am sure you can whip up a batch of scones from scratch and get the same result, but these mixes are going to be nice to have on hand and ready to go when you need a quick treat on a cold winter day. Easy and excellent, and so easy to get creative!
The basic mix is amenable to additions of whatever might suit you- chocolate nibs from Askinosie, nuts, dried fruit... whatever your little scone-loving heart desires!
I bought several of them and have given them as much appreciated gifts, to friends. YUM! Let the (easy) baking begin!
I add my own fixings: orange zest and vanilla; or apple and cinnamon; or lemon and poppy seed; or chocolate chips. Let your imagination guide you.
I buy 6 boxes at a time for $ 41.70. Don't know why a 6 pk. from another Amazon vendor charges over $ 60!
