as many have already noted the magnet is simply not strong enough to hold a regular iPhone 12. I even use the TOZO ultra thin case. So I think they should have taken that into consideration when designing it. Otherwise it is so darned convenient allowing you to place your phone where you can see it and not be distracted from the road. Plus no cord to plug in when getting in the car. I was wondering if I could stick a thin metal plate on the back of my case to see if it would hold, but I'm not sure if that would interfere with the charger.
EDIT: I experimented a little and decided to tilt the charger upward about 40 degrees. (see photo) This allowed the phone to lie on the charger, more so than hanging from it. I was still able to clearly see my screen with no interference. Maybe better. This dramatically improved the adhesion to the device even with the TOZO Ultra Thin case on it. I drove over some pretty good bumps to test and it held. I don't think it will work well with a thicker case, but it is now fulfilling my needs. It would really be great to have a stronger magnet, but I don't know if that would interfere with the charger. Anyway, very happy now!!

EDIT: I experimented a little and decided to tilt the charger upward about 40 degrees. (see photo) This allowed the phone to lie on the charger, more so than hanging from it. I was still able to clearly see my screen with no interference. Maybe better. This dramatically improved the adhesion to the device even with the TOZO Ultra Thin case on it. I drove over some pretty good bumps to test and it held. I don't think it will work well with a thicker case, but it is now fulfilling my needs. It would really be great to have a stronger magnet, but I don't know if that would interfere with the charger. Anyway, very happy now!!
