You'll need the internet to install drivers

While the package and advertisement states numerous times, easy setup, it isn't merely plug and play. If you have no internet connection, then you're out of luck. You need to be able to connect to the internet BEFORE being able to use this. The instructions send you to a website to download the proper drivers. My up to date Windows 10 machine wasn't able to use this without downloading a driver. From the website, you'll enter the model number which isn't the big number on the box, it's a more complicated model name. Use the help icon to identify where to find it. But the model name doesn't produce a usable driver. While TP-Link had a driver for the Archer T3U (which didn't work) it did not have one for the Archer T3U Plus which is the antenna that I had bought. Couldn't find it on the TP-Link website. I searched the the internet for 'TP-Link Archer T3U Plus' and found a link (to my surprise) the driver on the TP-Link website. Technically it was the UK website and I'm in the USA. Download the driver from the UK site and the device works. Device works great, but is a little frustrating that driver install isn't more straight forward. I have the antenna plugged into a USB C base station which I'll use for several devices. As long as each device has the driver installed, the wireless works great. Saved me from upgrading Wireless cards in several older laptops.

I have an older computer that started dropping my internet every now and then. It wasn't a problem at first but it started happening very frequently in the past few months and had started to become very annoying. So instead of opening up my computer and replacing the Network adapter, I figured ordering this would be much, much easier. So I ordered this product yesterday and I received it today, 12/9/20. I inserted the CD into my desktop and then proceeded to install the drivers. Right away, my internet stopped working. I looked at my Wi-fi Network Configuration and I saw that it didn't recognize the new adapter. Well this is a problem because I'm working from home and I need my internet to work! So, I just restarted the computer to see if that what would happen and it turns out that's what fixed the problem. As you can see from the included screenshot, I tested my wifi signal on 12/5. Then I tested it twice today with the first test being while my VPN was active (the middle result) and the one at the top is with my VPN turned off. It's a big difference to say the least. Now webpages open up almost immediately now, whereas before, it wasn't nearly as fast. FYI, my internet speed is 100/100 MB/s (download/upload). Now I truly get these speeds, and I am very happy with my purchase.

I needed wifi for a cheap PC I was building just to show my son how to do it. I bought this unit based on price (very inexpensive), good ratings, and my own personal satisfactory experience with the TP-Link brand.

I read reports saying that I'd need internet access to download drivers to install. I can only tell you that on the Windows 10 build -- using Windows installation media downloaded in early January 2021 -- the adapter was recognized and proper drivers installed during the Windows installation. YMMV, I suppose, perhaps based on the age of the installation media you're using.

The adapter itself is unremarkable. The antenna barely pokes above the top of our mid-tower case, but obviously placement will vary depending on available USB slots. Tucked away in a corner of our basement, it has a strong signal to our wifi mesh, connects at 5 GHz, and matches the download speeds of all the other devices in our house connecting via wi-fi.

This was about as painless and satisfactory an experience as I can imagine with a wi-fi adaptor. Like I said, this was for a cheap build, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy this again if I needed wi-fi for a "real" build.

Gotta have the antenna!

Bought a USB wifi adapter from Cudy here on Amazon but it was spotty. I'd be cruising along and all the sudden "page cannot be displayed". I'd unplug it from the USB hub and plug it back in and 5 mins later had internet but that got annoying quick. My office, with my servers, is way on the other side of the home, several walls between the router and the desktop so the Cudy would probably be ok for most people. There highest I achieved was 585Mbps. Returned it and bought THIS. 780Mbps (833 sometimes) and not a single drop in the 10 days I've owned it. No small feat considering my home layout. The external antenna and the MIMO feature must be the difference. MIMO is common in most routers since 2019 and what it does it create a direct line to the device. Instead of throwing out a fanned-out range of signal which the adapter can tap into, MIMO connects directly to the device... Or at least tries to. MIMO is an important feature on a router and for the Cudy to NOT have it was a problem. I don't like NOT maximizing my gear. This is also usb 3.0, which can make a huge difference in device to device transfers inside the home. Probably won't effect your DOWNLOADED stuff from your ISP unless you pay $200 a month for your cable company's 1Gbps plan. I get 200Mbps so anything above that is gravy. BUT, if I was to send a file from my laptop to my desktop via the intranet, every Mbps counts. This was only 2 or 3 dollars more and for the antenna and MIMO it's all worth it. The antenna isn't just for show either...I can increase my signal strength by adjusting the antenna. Right now I have it flat, instead of straight up and my signal went from 585mbps to, like I said, 780 and even 833. I've never seen higher than 625Mbps on my office desktop. Of course I researched these like I was buying a used car, so you can take my word for it. Comes with driver CD. Put the disc in, run setup, plug the device into a USB 3.0 slot and you're ready to go. You can play with the placement after that... Right click on the wifi signal icon in there bottom right of the taskbar and click properties, then Status and watch the Mbps change. Find the sweet spot and leave it there. It's a great product for under $35... Mine was only $16 and change I believe. TP-Link is a decade(s) old networking company and they make good stuff. Hope this helps! D

In lieu of running a new network drop, I elected to purchase this AC 1300 USB Wifi Dongle.

For optimal performance ensure you plug this into a USB 3.0 port. I've been using this for over 3 weeks with no dropouts or any kinds of issues - it's been rock solid.

No issues connecting to my 5ghz Access Point - signal is solid even with the AP being 30 feet away (and the signal has to travel through 3 walls). Transfer speeds are great, I move a lot of of files to/from my NAS with solid transfer speeds!

I did not install the included drivers, Windows 10 automatically picked this up and installed the appropriate drivers. However in reading some reviews - it appears that if you want the latest and greatest drivers, you should visit the US site in lieu of the Canadian site for the most up to date driver set.

Misleading listing - Device has no Bluetooth support as claimed.

I have been misled. In addition to the Wi-Fi capabilities, the listing for this product advertises, "Bluetooth 5.0 - The latest Bluetooth technology achieves 2× Faster Speed and 4× Broader Coverage than BT 4.2." From this I assumed the unit was dual purpose, able to provide both connectivity to a wireless network and bluetooth pairing support at the same time. It does not. It has no Bluetooth support to speak of, so I'm confused as to why this was included in the listing. I had no use for a wireless adapter, but thought the concept of stuffing both wireless protocols into one device was novel. Now I learn that it's not novel, it's non-existent.

I literally just got this just over an hour ago. Popped it into my computer, installed the driver, so far so good. Speedtest started out well, then it just dropped like a rock. Then I tried copying over a file from my home network, hard reset. After the forced reboot, the adapter could no longer load it's drivers.

Took it into the other room where I'm building my new Ryzen system, plugged it in to a fresh install of Win 7, again no problem installing. Speedtest 27Mbs down. Popped in my old USB 2.0 ac wifi adapter (without any antenna) and got 85Mbs down.

I'll be returning this.
