This is the best series that I've seen in such a long time. The outfits, theme, and overall weirdness kept me so entertained! I loved every minute or it and wish that more movies and series would play by a concept of "out of the box" and strange. The fight scenes were the most surprising and I was very impressed by everyone's performance! I'm planning on watching this again!

Masterpiece! But not for normies.
I can't believe I almost didn't watch this show because of some poor reviews. This is a masterpiece! Sono Sion is a god among men when it comes to film making. I guess a lot of normies watched this, and got angry because it didn't fit a nicely packaged storyline, but Sono Sion's films aren't about that. They're art, very visceral art, with lots of symbolism and dialogue that ask hard questions about existence and society (mostly Japan's modern society). For example, didn't you wonder why Yamada was so mad at his politician father? Maybe the isolation inside a small hotel with a dwindling population while the youth long for the "outside world" represents Japan's isolationism and birthrate decline. The walls of the "hotel" are made up of people who have given up on fighting for a change. And that's just one example of how you can interpret it. And that's what art often is, a beautiful chaotic mess that is left open for interpretation, i.e. Tokyo Vampire Hotel. The visuals were stunning. I cinegasmed every time the characters walked into a monochromed room. The characters were enthralling. The story was exciting and gripping. The music was great. I loved the opening theme by Tricot, and the bump in the night song was fun for the ending theme. Overall it was just amazing! I highly recommend it to anyone who is ready to look deeper into a dark, violent, fun film, rather than your average run of the mill fantasy story.

Junkfood for the Brain from Japan.
So first off - if you go in expecting some serious horror grime and sexuality, find something else right now. You are just going to be disapointed.
IF you like crazy over the top character types, lots of fake blood, massive brawl style fights with some curious take on vampire lore (and a healthy understanding of Anime/Asian humor) this is a good junk watch.

If you try to focus too much on the over all plot of the world you will end up with a headache from the glaring holes, if you forgive that for the story that plays out among the characters activly on screen it is humorous. This is honestly something I wouldn't mind seing get a better budget/backing if just to correct the horrendious practical special effects used.

Some of this is brilliant and inspired. Some is just plain lazy.
Frustrating. This could've been the most original thing on amazon (and in SOME ways it is). After a too violent opening and some riveting middle episodes it starts to get very repetitive and ultimately devolves into pretension for lack of a story. I don't necessarily need linear narrative. I think if you enjoy anime you will especially accept the absence of logic in this. But if you're going to watch 10 episodes you need SOMETHING to go on. I think Sion Sono had enough material for a two hour movie - not a whole series. Also the actress playing Manami may be the worst actress I've ever seen. On the plus side, the theme song by Tricot is fantastic and Sono's wife Megumi Kagurazaka is in it and she's so a joy to watch. Ultimately however it all feels like a wasted opportunity.

don't. not even as a time filler series.
No. Just no.

take the bad parts in the series Kimmy schmidt + true blood+ the movie The Adventures of Baron Munchausen + Quintin T. bloodiness and slow pace = vampire hotel. they try to get the audience's attention with fighting, nude, and blood scenes, but everything else is just ... tasteless and blah.

there are moments in the series just feel like quitting but keeping thinking so much time already spent in this. it's out of place everywhere and feels drag on. i don't mind reading subtitles for good plot, but this.... oy.

however, some people here enjoy it. just not me.

Not even funny bad.
I don't understand the high ratings. It's TRYING to be bad, and somehow even fails at that. There's nothing smart, funny, or interesting about this. It's got Adam Sandler-level writing and Steve Carr-level direction. The story is just disjointed but not in a "weird and fun" way, just in a "so...how do we write ourselves out of this corner and into the next?," kind of way. Save your time, go watch some real schlock and have some fun elsewhere if that's what you're looking for, or go watch some Blood+ or even effin' Underworld if you just want some fun vampire action with an actual story and interesting characters. This is gonna offer you none of that. I think most people who are rating this highly are doing it based off of recommendations or having had fun with their friends while this was on in the background, 'cuz there's no way this is worth a watch otherwise -- and even then, there's tens of dozens of movies and shows that could fill that purpose WAY better than this.

It's just...not fun, not interesting, not smart, not engaging, not stylish, not raw...it's practically nothing lol.

Poorly Written
I kept looking for 'the punch line', the raison d'etre, and guess what: it NEVER SHOWED UP!
Just when you think a little coherence presents itself, whoosh, gone in a bloody mess that makes ZERO sense!
The young lady who was suppose to save the ancient what was really her role. She played it horribly. I'm sorry but throughout the entire movie she had no clue and was always running. I couldn't even finish the series because it was terrible.

Excessive, massive, ridiculous, amounts of violence that has nothing whatsoever to do with what should have been an episode plot.

Kill Bill With Vampires!
God, what more could you want? We binged this and wanted to cry when it was over.

Stylish youngsters in fashionable attire hack, slash and bite their way through a plot that would understandably confuse an ethnocentric Western audience. If you know anything about Japan, the story makes perfect sense.

The cheesy special effects make the violence an effective device in the storytelling - did anyone really want realistic decapitations? This whole thing was a feast for the eyes. Visually fantastic.

The negative reviewer who's afraid of "antifa" should be chained to a chair and forced to watch this repeatedly. It'll do him some good.
