I worry if you don't repackage the cherries just might mold if left out. Can't say for certain so I may be worried for no reason.
My favorite trail mix recipe, what I call Perfect Mix, is equal parts Traverse Bay Dried Cherries, Planters Lightly Salted Cocktail Peanuts Planters Cocktail Peanuts, Lightly Salted, 16 Ounce Canister and Blue Diamond Lightly Salted Almonds Blue Diamond Almonds, Low Sodium Lightly Salted, 16 Ounce . If you try it, I am sure you'll like it.
Some reviews & questions mention pits, and there are occasional pits...a reality that seems inevitable with a mechanically pitted fruit. Pits are rare enough that you can go multiple boxes without any, but they will occasionally happen.
These are the best I have found so far. They are a great combination of sweet and tart. The flavor does not lean too far in either direction.
I measured out one cup and vacuum sealed them in individual bags. They should last quite some time in the refrigerator but I decided to freeze one of the vacuum sealed bags since they should last a year or two saving them that way. After two weeks, I took the bag out of the freezer. I was going to let it thaw but wondered if they would make a great cold summer treat by eating them frozen. I started to eat them frozen and they were delicious. I then let the bag thaw and I couldn’t tell them from the fresh bag. Now I can have my cherries year round!
I ordered these to go in a chocolate chip cookie recipe when I noticed the dried cherries I had bought locally had a warning on the package that they might contain nut fragments. That was alarming since I had been asked to provide cookies for children with nut and egg allergies. I did not chop these up but added them to the cookie dough whole and they added such a delish complement to the dark chocolate chips. Now I'm hooked on eating the cherries as a snack. My grandsons stopped by today on they way to swim class and I offered them some cherries. They loved snacking on them, too, so I gave each of them a little to-go sandwich baggie with a handful of cherries to snack on in the car. This is now a staple at Zanna's house!
