I saw the same product a HDMI extender marketed as a way to improve wifi connection for my Fire stick. I did a little research and nothing was different about that product from this product except for the price. Its a HDMI extender and now that my firestick is not stuck behind the tv and in a better location to pick up wifi the buffering has stopped!

I bought this extension because we live the RV life and our son bought us a Nintendo Switch for Christmas. We have only one TV and we use our hotspot to connect to the internet, when available.

Sometimes, I connect my laptop to the TV directly with an HDMI cord to watch online television shows. We grew weary of using the Kindle Firestick and Chromecast because there are sometimes app issues that drive us crazy. They get a new update and it messes it up or the apps that you can use via Chromecast are old and don't work. It's annoying, so I went back to the old fashioned cord system.

Because we plug in the HDMI cord to my laptop fairly often, I did not want to ruin the HDMI port on the Switch by constantly tugging on it to remove it, then pushing on it to get that thing back in there. That constant tension eventually causes the port not to connect properly. Just like how eventually a cell phone will no longer connect to charge.

We plugged this extension into our Switch and it will instead take that tension damage. This is permanent and will stay there until it no longer works, and I'll get another. If it ever stops working, but all things do.

It works really well for our needs but I will say that we do sometimes get static. It's only for a moment, though. It's not the HDMI cord itself because we never get static when connected to the computer and the television. It is ONLY when connected to the Switch's extension. Before we got this extension, the Switch never had static when the HDMI was being plugged into the Switch directly, so there is a fault.

It really depends on what you need it for but for the price and value, I'd say it's a good buy. I do have concerns for the very occasional static but it hasn't been a problem where it lasts more than about 2-3 seconds at a time. Then it won't do it for hours, so that's just a FYI for some of you.

All in all, I do recommend it.

The cable IS well built and would probably work well for other stuff, but...
I specifically searched for "oculus hdmi extension cable" because this was to be used with Oculus Rift. It even showed up as being "Amazon's Choice" for that particular search inquiry.

UPDATE: the cable failed to deliver any image on my Oculus headset when plugged into nVidia GTX970 card. I recently upgraded to a GTX1080 and now everything works great. In other words, depending on the card, your experience may vary.

When connected via this cable, Oculus software did detect Oculus headset, and did not "see" any problems with it. Audio was coming in fine, but there was no image -pitch black. Once I removed the extension and plugged the headset in directly, everything worked fine.

So far, Oculus own cable was long enough, so I did not try ordering other extensions yet. But eventually, I want to add a ceiling tether, and pretty sure I will need the extension then.

Solved my Firestick Picture Quality and Sound Cutting Out Problem

I have a Firestick that was not giving me good quality pictures and the sound cut out and back in every few minutes on a TV that requires me to use the HDMI extender (that came with Firestick). My TV's design has an indentation around the HDMI ports and there is not enough space in the indentation to slide the length of Firestick directly into the port without using the extender cable. I took the Firestick to a second residence and used it in a TV where I was able to plug Firestick directly into TV's HDMI port (without using extender) and it worked flawlessly. This was an indication that my Firestick itself is not faulty. As a test, at our second residence, I used the extender cable with Firestick to see if it would mimic the same problems with picture quality and sound cutting out. I could not get Firestick to connect at all with the extender cable. I got an error message that it had no signal. This confirmed for me the problem is likely an issue with the extender cable.

After researching symptoms with Firestick of poor picture and sound cutting out, I ran across a post advising readers to remove extender. Because that is not possible with the design of my TV, I decided to buy a new HDMI cable to see if it solved my problem. I purchesed the UGREEN HDMI extender in 3' length. I read that it is high speed in the description and felt it was worth a try for the low cost. I purchased the longer (3') cable allowing my Firestick to lay flat behind my TV on the stand rather than a shorter cable that left it dangling behind TV.

I have used the Firestick wih the UGREEN HDMI cable several times and the picture is crystal clear and there is no issue with sound cutting out. I don't know if the extender that came with my Firestick was just bad, or if the (high speed) UGREEN cable made the difference, or if simply having the longer cable (so that the Firestick did not have to dangle) made the difference. In any event, I am extremely pleased that my problem was solved with this cable and definitely recommend it to others that may be experiencing the issues I was having.

This product was perfect for what I was trying to achieve. My Amazon firestick came with a very short hdmi cable (only 3"). Being so short it was behind the TV and laying on the back of the TV getting very hot. The signal for the remote was being blocked by the tv. Plus the WiFi signal was weak. I bought this to get the firestick out from behind the TV. I bought this product in a 6 foot length, which worked perfectly. Now that the firestick is on top of the entertainment center I get great signal and it's not over heating. Picture quality is better then it was before. So I recommend this product for whatever reason. If you have a firestick I recommend getting it out from behind the TV with one of these.

HDMI cable comparisons

I looked for reviews on HDMI cables. There were many that said for a 2 metre cable, it doesn't matter whether you buy a cheap or expensive HDMI cable. So just out of interest I bought the audioquest pearl and the Fisual Hollywood silver star. I then compared these with some existing cables. I was really surprised at the differences.

I use the cables to connect my virgin media cable box to a midpriced television (not 4K). The most striking differences were in the colours, and the way in which the edges of objects such as faces were displayed.

Audioquest pearl(2m)
This gave a natural looking image with pleasant colours. You could see gradations of colours within people's faces.

Wireworld Chroma 7 (5m) plus Ugreen HDMI extension (2m)
this gives a decent picture. Not quite as good as the audioquest pearl. Presumably this is due to the longer length of HDMI cable.

QED performance active HDMI (8m)
this QED cable is supposed to be designed for long cable runs. However I found the picture was not quite as good as the Wireworld Chroma. I was starting to see sharp edges around objects, and the colours were not as good.

Fisual Hollywood silver star (2m)
although this was only a short 2 metre cable, it gave by far the worst picture. There was clear edge creation around objects such as faces, which made them look unnatural. Colours were either washed out, or over strong. There was no gentle gradation in colours. The overall effect was unpleasant. Although this is a very cheap cable, I cannot recommend buying it.

I decided to play it safe a d get the 2m length to make sure it works (might later try a longer one). What is there to really review?

The picture and sound quality is just like any other HDMI cable, no visible loss in quality.

The connection to other HDMI cables is solid, and takes a little force to remove them, which I like. Means there is no risk in the cables disconnecting, and if you have a little bit of force on the cable, you'll know it can hold it in place.

Cable built quality is a thick stiff cable, and doesn't feel like it's going to break even if I flung it across the room.

Used this to extend my firestick from my wall mounted TV as for some reason my firestick was struggling for signal, it has helped.

Causes picture judder on 4k / HDR content

Bought this to run my 4k Firestick away from the back of the TV. The lead is good quality but I have noticed an issue / fault when playing 4k / HDR content, especially on Netflix, where you get occasional (and annoying) picture judder - not all the time but is noticeable througout various episodes of different programs, including The Crown. Not sure if it's a fault with my lead or an issue with its ability to handle 4k / HDR content - the product info suggests it should be able to.
