Don't expect Chuck Norris or Supernatural, and you will probably be fine.
This is more of a family drama, with a Texas Ranger still dealing with the mysterious murder of his wife and trying to reconnect with his kids after a long job undercover. That's the focus. There is more angst and less action. Sure, there is the procedural cop show element, but it's not what drives the show. And because this is 2021, his partner is a woman of Mexican heritage, his boss is black, his brother is gay, and his daughter's best friend has terrified undocumented parents. This show is definitely going to deal with current social issues, and if you find that offensive, this is probably not the show for you. But the cast is great, and they put a lot of effort into the pilot. I'm looking forward to it. Again, there is almost nothing of the Chuck Norris connection here beyond the name and location. One very poignant aspect: Jared Padalecki's real-life wife, Genevieve, who he met on the set of Supernatural, plays his wife in flashbacks. They obviously have a lot of chemistry together!

Great show to me

I like this reboot of walker . It is nice that it doesn’t have too many shootouts Kung-fu like the original walker Texas ranger that aired in 1993. I never liked that show that had chuck norris . It is refreshing to see a family type storyline
For the reboot of walker show.

Look the actors in this series are solid gold. Id watch the Supernatural cast in just about anything but there are some problems. Acting is amazing...but the story is slow moving, and the writers have really failed the audience. Walker is a screw up not a hero, and a new Ranger is basically put in charge of keeping him out of trouble....she wields way to much control over Walker as a new Ranger, however do not read into this, I am not saying it because she is female and ethnic, which is the new normal in Hollywood trying to include all demographics....she was cast well and is a strong actor well suited for the role....she is not the issue...its the story...Walker spends most of his time looking like a fool.....and making me long for Chuck Norris's version. They are not utilizing Jared Padalecki in the manner we expect of the Texas Rangers and certainly not Chuck Norris's version. In all the show has promise but if the writers don't have this series fixed by season 2 I won't continue watching it. Given the acting I cant give this less than 4 stars although I would like to....I can't bring myself to do it. The cast was far to well picked. I blame the writers.

Not like the original!

We paid $20 to rent the season and haven't watched past the 3rd episode because it is so bad! Acting not believable! Unlike the original where Walker Texas Ranger was an honorable stand up guy, here he is portrayed as someone who bailed on his family and is irresponsible! His female co-star takes the lead and his cousin is a male stripper! Whoever wrote this one can't be from Texas!

I was never a fan of the original show, but liked JP from Supernatural. I knew going in this show would be in name only. Why not just create a new character? Of course they had to add PC agenda in every episode. I felt sorry for JP, his character gets owned in every episode. From his boss to his so called rookie partner. The way they treat him, you would think he’s the rookie. When his partner is always telling him how to do his job, and don’t put her career at risk. I grew tired of it all, and couldn’t even finish the season. Too bad, but I look forward to what JP does next.

Little Character and Less Plot

The main character is a synthesis of Walt Longmire and Raylan Givens (from Justified); it's not at all like Chuck Norris's tough Texan from the 90s. There's no action and plenty of progressive politics.
