This movie is a classic and will always be

I have read some negative reviews on this movie and that in themselves is humor. To this day, I have shared and appreciated this all-black cast. I love the message. I show it in my black history class and we dissect and compare the movie each and every year. Strangely enough, I will get different responses, which gives me an idea of how much time has really changed, and how important family is. I have not had not one student to fall aseep on this movie, though I have had some to come back to request watching it again. For thse who did not get the concept of the movie, it may because you cannot relate to the character, but in the inner cities, my youth can relate. I wish we had more like this.

YES, would watch it again

Like one reviewer said, the negative reviews in themselves are humorous. True, it's long, but the original version was long also. But when a person doesn't care for something - everything is long and boring. I'm giving credit where credit is due and it was so REFRESHING and INTERESTING. This a modern version - modern for the time that it was made. The modern version was TOTALLY SPOT ON. The dancing and everything was EXCELLENT. The ability to move like that and so close and not hit one another - timing is everything, BRAVO, BRAVO, and BRAVO.

'Not A Great Movie!'

I found the movie to be too long and boring! Actress/singer Diana Ross was too old to play Dorothy, singer Michael Jackson is good as the scarecrow, actors Nipsey Russell, Ted Ross and Richard Pryor were OK as the Tin Man, the lion and The Wiz. Actress/singer Lena Horne is good as Glinda. The singing and dancing was good. I got bored with the movie and I prefer the original version of the movie with actress Judy Garland. Today is Michael Jackson's birthday and I wanted to watch the movie in his honor. REST IN POWER to the following actors and actresses: Mr. Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958-June 25, 2009); Ms. Lena Mary Calhoun Horne (June 30, 1917-May 9, 2010); Ms. Theresa Merritt Hines (September 24, 1922-June 12, 1998); Ms. Clarice Taylor (September 20, 1917-May 30, 2011); Ms. Thelma Carpenter (January 15, 1922-May 14, 1997); Mr. Carlton Johnson (August 7, 1934-December 22, 1986); Mr. Julius 'Nipsey' Russell (September 15, 1918-October 2, 2005); Mr. Richard Franklin Lennox Thomas Pryor (December 1, 1940-December 10, 2005); Ms. Mabel Elizabeth Washington King (December 25, 1932-November 9, 1999); Mr. Ted Ross (ne Theodore Ross Roberts) (June 30, 1934-September 3, 2002): 'You all may be gone but you will never, ever be, forgotten.'

This is a African American must as a kid for me released on my birthday in 1978 The Blu-ray is beautiful remaster sound quality great If you not seeing what I'm seeing maybe it time to Upgrade your TV Blu-ray player and Eye glass prescription 🤣 If you didn't like it It wasn't for you to begin with🤔 It's cast are some of the best at that time It is funny creatively done and Yes different then the Original as it should be! I Love it and I'm pleased Even though Amazon has it as Multi format which all you get is 1 Blu-ray disk my understanding that Multi format mean 2 disc and possibly a paper with a code to use like in Vudu or other stored movie sites

Strong Female Lead

This film taught me some about life with large families, and how they celebrate holidays. I don't have that myself, and celebrate holidays alone. The film has some great musical numbers and the costumes are quite creative. The lead actress, Diana Ross, brings out emotion through song. She will be one to follow and watch in other films and music.

Cringey, even for a satire.

This was about as painful to watch as an actual introverted teenager surviving being heckled and treated poorly for four years without them knowing he/she was being recorded. It was about as fun to watch as being beaten with a sock full of quarters. I understand the premise, I understand the reason, would've stopped watching it if not for the King of Pop's character development. Maybe a younger crowd would appreciate it more.

The Wiz is my ALL TIME favorite movie! I know there are plenty of other good movies, but this is one from my childhood and I just love it! The music, the singing, the dancing - there's never been another movie quiet like it with a cast quite like it - and never will be! I DO have this in my library, and although I've probably seen it 50+ times, I never grow tired of it. LOVE IT!!!!

A Unique Take on the Wizard of Oz movie theme
Verified purchase
The Wiz film is very uplifting to watch and I am very glad to have watched it. Diana Ross plays a very moving and heartfelt role as Dorothy. The character of Dorothy in this film ends up on an adventure that changes her and those in her life whose path she crosses (such as the Scarecrow character played by Michael Jackson). As a writer, it was fun seeing this movie as I saw a very unique retelling on the Wizard of Oz theme (such as the feature of various dancers/models in the film, Lena Horne playing the fairy godmother, and much more details that make the Wiz film worthwhile to watch).
