It's ideal for my 65 lb. rangey mutt, taller and longer than most boxers. He has enough height and enough room to lie down and to turn around. Something to consider is the size and weight for storage. This folded 36" crate is pretty heavy and unwieldy at about 25 lbs. with a soft mat included. Also, any dog has to be trained to be comfortable in a crate (see http://www.humanesociety.org/animals/dogs/tips/crate_training.html ).

My 40lb 6 month old is way to big for my 36in I would go to a 42 or 48, depending on if they are on the large or small end for boxers

No, 36" is too small for a boxer. My female boxer puppy already graduated from 36" to 42" and she's only 40 lbs and not even 6 months old yet.

I have found the 48 inch crate has always been the best size for my Boxers.

No. Recommended size for a boxer is at least 42" (the Large size crate).

Hmm , I wouldn't think so Caitlyn . I use it for my long legged rat terrier for sleeping in but I use a smaller one to transport him . I think boxers have a range of sizes although I have seen some smaller females that were full grown . I would think it could be ok for transporting your dog for for sleeping in I'm not sure but I don't know what your exact plans are . I bought this for my dog to sleep in and he loves it .

I have a 1 year old boxer, he is on the tall side, I got him the 42 and the 42 is just right for a Boxer.

I use this size for my boxer, and it is more than big enough. He has plenty of room to stretch out, and to stand up and turn around in it. My guy is not small for a boxer either.

Absolutely not, they need A LOT of space. I have 3 and they need PLENTY of room in their crate.

The crate should be 4-6 inches longer and taller than the dog.
