The gate uses tension to keep it in place. As long as it can be placed firmly between the walls, it would work. It would not work at an angle. My door is 36” and the original extensions that came with it worked fine. There was not very much left over however. A 12” extension (or two 6” extensions) would be needed to make the gate fit a 48” door.
