Answer:
Yes. The rods and fabric are separate pieces so if you want to say, sew a cute pattern and use that instead you could. The material is strong and durable though so unless you didn't like the colors you will love this product.

Answer:
Yes, if your children try to climb things.... for older children, probably not. It's light. We didn't and the children, twins 2 and baby brother 8 months do turn it over from time to time.

Answer:
I do not believe that it's real wood. It has held up really well though, our 3 yr old is constantly playing with it; turning it over, pulling the books our, hides behind it, moves it a lot, etc. And we've never had any issues with scratches on the ends or with them coming loose.

Answer:
This is definitely designed to sit on a flat surface, on the floor. I don't imagine it would be safe to place on a book shelf as it could topple over if a child were to try to pull a book out of the slot.

Mine was not damaged. I love ours.
My grandson has had it for two years. Very sturdy. I have given them as gifts to my friends as well.

Answer:
The pockets have a depth of roughly 7", so a 10" magazine should be able to fit and have a bit of the top visible.
